Hindustan Times is also more or less balanced newspaper. Its Political Editor Vinod Sharma is a very good commentator and mature journalist. Among other native journos, Vinod Dua of Outlook and Shekhar Gupta of Indian Express are upright journalists. Barkha Dutt of NDTV has become a little arrogant and dubious nowadays because of her high profile connections and the increasing TRP of the channel. As Dr. Rajpal Singh has already observed, Editorial of Tribune has some standard. As far as day to day reporting of actual happenings is concerned, all the newspapers borrow the news from various agencies like PTI, Reuter, IANS, Samachar etc. Therefore, the gist of the news is the same. The only difference is a slight change in the mode of presentation. Having said that, I would suggest that the readers should always analyze the editorials with a little cynicism because most of the newspapers have biased views which are determined by the individual political leaning of the management and the Editor himself. Also, the opinions are influenced by the amount of donations or quantum of favour given to a particular group by a particular political party or the vested interests to earn its loyalty, political tilt and sufficient space on the first page. As media is the most effective and appealing means of mass communication, those media groups that become popular with the passage of time acquire saleability and indulge in bargaining with the rich politico-business mafia. As on today, most of them are hand in glove with the affluent sections of society and the brokers of political power. Revelations of Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghi's names in the Nira Radia Case is a testimony to it.
As far as international tabloids and journalists are concerned, the list is very long. One can choose any newspaper according to one's taste. For those having interest in world economy, Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a very good monthly publication. For those keeping track of global political developments, Time and Newsweek are good magazines. Similarly, there are many good newspapers as well viz. New York Times, Telegraph,Guardian,Herald Tribune, Le Monde and many more but, the problem is who has the time to read so much stuff. Therefore, one has to be very selective and precise in reading the newspapers, magazines and books as most of the editorials, commentaries and book collections are summaries of individual opinions which may not be universally applicable and, hence, may not be in consonance with your own views.
If one wants to keep himself/herself abreast of the news of one's own village/area, Dainik Jagran is the best. It covers all the happenings in each and every street of almost every village on daily basis. For example :
