Best Newspaper / Magazine for Current Affairs?

My apologies, I selected "reply with quote" instead of "reply", so no link to the the "links" in your post. Illustrated weekly stopped publications in the 90s. It was quite popular.
Don't know much. Chandan Mitra is Pioneer's editor- so guess it should be BJP inclined.

PS: Are they covered in these links?

In this particular video, Ram Jethmalani's aggression is confined to usage of words "Who the Hell are you?" repeated atleast 30 times which makes him appear self-obsessed and capricious whereas Karan was able to articulate his content coherently..........yeah but Karan's same approach is not correct for some other cases/interviews.....

hahahaha!! Good One!! Just watched Karan Thapar interviewing Ram Jeth Malani(He is very aggressive, no doubt after watching this video) .

Which newspaper(s) or magazine(s) do members find great for news and views? Also if you like any specific writers?

Amongst mainstream papers, I think Indian Express is the best for "Opinion" and "Op-Eds" - especially Pratap Bhanu Mehta and Shekhar Gupta. Express also has some good New York Times Opinion pieces.

In magazines, I follow India Today, Open and Outlook off and on. I find Manu Joseph of Open and M J Akbar of India Today.

Over last five years my faith in fourth pillar of democracy has gone down drastically.I hardly read any of them with effort. I found them , both electronic and print, severely imbalanced in standing up to the citizen's right of knowing the unbiased truth of the matter. In my opinion media necessarily shall not be pro-government and likewise anti-government. Both hide the critical things for a rational thought. They conveniently use the tag '' Freedom of Speech'' the way it suits their commercial needs. It quite ironic in nature to learn that at the time of independence we had lesser number of newspapers and magazine than we 've now but at the same time they had impact and now in spite of huge presence their impact is nil to my understanding.

I am eagerly waiting for this discussion to conclude so that I can again dare to buy something from stands.

No one has mentioned about 'Tehalka' stuff yet. That guy seems to be in oblivion which is sad. Further, one sort of journalism which really excited me is the 'Wiki-leaks'. That was new to the world. Citizens hardly gets to know what really goes behind curtains. We shall be highly cautious in believing of what we hear, read and watch because after few years you would know that that was a particular propaganda for someone's interest.

Samar,

Is that because of Liberalization in the economy! I mean commercialization of media. Market got flooded with too many channels. All of them competing against each other and trying different ways to improve TRP. Having said that pre-liberalization,commercialization we only had DD1, which is still run by the Government. May be DD1 never tried to expose the government because of being run by the Government. I think may be commercialization of media has helped in exposing government. Just looking from other angle. :)

typical attitude of egomaniacs and people corrupted by power, i think.

bad journalism, in my opinion.

I found Punjab Kesari is OK. Suits my need. I dont read any other paper regularly. If I am really interested in any news/affair I like to read both sides view like If its China-India related, I read papers from both country so that I can understand both point of view. Often many things are exaggerated and there is lot of propaganda involved sometimes they manipulate it to suit local's taste. For finance/investment related matters never rely on these analysts. If they are even 60% confident they would be making millions and wont be bothered writing in the paper. Just try to gather the facts and make your own mind.
