Ganguly has been dropped from the Indian squad for the third Test. Although the selectors generally retain the winning combination, they surprisingly chose to omit the Bengal left hander who scored 40 and 39 in the match. It’s too early to say but the doors seem to be closed on him. It is the greatest decision by the selectors that i have seen in past some years.

I will say it a sponsored and unfortunate decision by selectors. Scoring 39 and 40 runs is not so bad in test and one’s performance can’t be judged in one match. Don’t forget that Yuvraj’ was lucky also in second test as his easy catch was dropped in slip when he was playing just on 16 runs. In my eyes Gautam Ghambir should be dropped instead of Ganguly..

I fully agree with Mukesh.

It is really too early to decide one's fate only on his performance in one match. Ganguly's past performances should have also been in mind of the selectors. He has scored thousands of runs for India in Test matches and his average is also very good (i think it is nearby 38).

Gautam Gambhir is selected in Test team again and again despite his poor performance & poor past record. He should have been dropped out of the team.

All is not fair while selection is done. I think this decision is not in Indian Cricket's interest.

As I remember three selectors in selection committe had not played test cricket in their life even they are selecting a test team.

Recently what Sunil Gavaskar has written in an article that "nothing has changed in the CRICKET BOARD despite the change of regime" is the truth.

Selectors have taken this decision considering long term goals.Gautam Ghambir has already proved himself with Virendra Sehwag for the opening slot. And also selectors have included in-form Wasim jaffer as a reserve player for the opening slot .Wasim Jaffer is performing consistently in domestic cricket for the long time.
It was the direct clash between Ganguly and Yuvraj for one place in middle order.Yuvraj is an aggressive and match winner player. He is doing good job in both aspects of the game. So Ganguly was the oblivious choice to thrown it out.I would again say that it is brave decision indeed.

Absolutely correct decision

Taking a long term view, selectors have found much better option in Yuvraj and why not? Yuvi has a long way to go and he is one of the best fielders in the world. As it is Ganguly being out means no politics in the team. Sound decision by the selectors.

instead of not being a ganguly sporter, i say its an unjustice. unfair is unfair. i think his contribution was more than yuvraj in first test if v consider match situation was performance, his first inning 40 were more valuable than 77 of yuvraj in second inning. but its india yaar JISKI LAATHI USKI BAINSH. lets hope for the best for indian team.

If they(selectors) have to thrown him out then why did they select him for two tests ? if it is not politics than what is ?
Criteria of selection should be equal to every player wheather he is Tendulkar or Dinesh Kartik.

Kisi ne sach keha ki "Sabi Ugate Suraj ko Salam Karte hai "..

Selectors have played their cards with safe hands.
Actually, had Ganguly not earned a selection into the squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka, things might have taken a turn for the worse.

There were demonstrations outside the Eden Gardens before the one day game against S.A. The chairman of the selection panel, Kiran More, and the Indian team coach, Greg Chappell, were the targets of angry groups.
Dravid said after the match that some of the Indian cricketers fielding near the ropes were given a torrid time by some sections of the crowd. This is sad.

So finally a very bad lesson is ended. In my view, Ganguly was a great danger for Indian cricket team. Who can forget that miserable incident in Nagpur test against Australia where he didn't play only because of that grassy wicket.
In last few years he just played for his own interests. He created differences in team and lead to the team in great depth.

Mukesh bhai kyumn hamesha dil se baat karte ho? Thoddi Cricket ki rajniti ke bare mei socha karo bhai. OK a hint:

Dalmia out...........WHO IS IN................INDIAN CAPTAIN..............OUT......................IS'NT DRAWID IN. It was a trick to add him in for a rest or two to cool the temperature of KolKutta...........He was out from this Indian side long back. Got it or not ?

its unfortunate

I am not a Ganguly fanGanguly but I feel that its very unfortunate. Ten days back the same chief selector felt that unfortunate can be fit into Indian team and now after Ganguly proved that he is fit and in good touch for test matches why suddenly same chief selector think that Ganguly does not fit into future plans. I think it very unfair for Ganguly, chief selector should not change his mind so frequently.

Unfortunate

I have never been a supporter of any player. The selection should be based on the performance. I think (no believe) dropping of Ganguly after this match has nothing to do with the performance to say the least.

Instead of discussing who has been preferred, let us see who has replaced him? Wasim Jaffer essentially an opening batsman and thus in all fairness should have come in place of an opener. Unless, Sehwag has decided to bat in the middle order, I see no logic in Jaffer replacing Ganguly. The only edge Jaffer has over Ganguly is that he is from Mumbai and not from Kolkata. Since the President of the Board is from Mumbai some changes must take place.

Further, if Jaffer has been selected for the middle order, then what about Md. Kaif? Is he going to be preferred over Kaif in the middle order?

And finally the logic of eyeing at the future. Just after two test matches, Ganguly has crossed that line of young vs. old and present vs. future.

I guess, the one person that needs to be replaced is "Kiran More" who does not have a spine as a chief selector. If Ganguly did not make it purely on the merit, then he should have put his foot down in first place when he was selected.

He was not so consistent with the bat in last some matches.
I agree, that he was a big player in past but those days are far behind now.How can you shut the doors for very talented young player like Yuvraj or for Jaffer on the sake of only past records.

What was so great about the performance of Dada in this match? He is a lousy fielder, a politician on the ground and thinks himself larger than the game. Why should jaffer not be tried Virendra sir? Look at his performance in domestic cricket and on top of it he is a bubbling young lad. Selectors can't please everybody when they have to pick up only 11 players. Good step by the selectors all the way. Let us look to the future please.

Players like Wasim Jaffer are real representatives of this great country. He is son of a bus conductor. This is a big encouragement for this lad.
He has first class average of around 50 and was in search of a place in team for last three years. Its logically smart to encourage batsman whose first class average is above 50 .

I think both of the arguments are valid to some extent.

I am pretty sure that Ganguly's performance has not been upto the mark in recent times. It is not just about batting, take other aspects of his game. His fielding is lately considered obnoxious, not even international standards. His running between the wickets is considered very bad...infact, this has created rift between himself and other palyers like laxman. Even in a short span of 3 innings now, he did it yet again!! I am talking about the run out!!

Also it is perfectly logical to encourage younger players and give them an opportunity, they can not be expected to play just domestic cricket all their lives while older players are included just on the basis of past records. This also harbors a feeling of security and being indispensable among players which is very derogatory for team performance. Such players, whether performing or not are very confident that they have a secured berth in the team.

However, having said all that, I am still a little unsure about this act of inclusion for a match and then firing. Even if the argument about appeasing the crowd is valid, it is neither justice to ganguly and nor to the other players. It is also right that no one can be judged for a performance in a single game. Even if it was right to drop him, the manner in which it was executed is wrong.

cheers,

Wasim Jaffer has already played for India in 2000-2002 and his average was 20.07. 260 runs in 7 test matches and 13 innings. Playing in test cricket is different from playing in Ranji or Dilip trophy. I hope he will do better this time.

social status should not be considered when someone represent the country.

I should say , social status also be considered. Jaffer comes from the lower strata of the society and would be more disciplined, humble and respectfull of team management in and out of the field. Moreover inclusion of a bus conductor's son in the team would give hope to thousands of aspirants coming from that backround. Decision of dropping Ganguly is based on not only performance but also on indiscipline too. Not only recent row with Chapple but also Gaguly is notoriously arrogant and indisciplined in and out of the ground.
I am of the view that he shouldn,t have been selected for the 2nd test at all.

Really unfair decision with full of politics if they had to make changes than why they didnt get rid of Gambhir. Really bad news for cricket.

Ganguly Should Retire

Yes Ganguly Should Retire Because He Is Brave Enough To Lead A Fight Against Foreign Control Over Indian Cricket, But Unfortunately We Are So Used To Be Ruled By Foreigners , Read Chappeel In This Case, that We Even Forget The Humiliation He Did By Showing His Middle Finger To Our People.i Wish There Was A Way By Which We Could Do Something To Save Our National Pride, But Till Then People Like Ganguly Will Have To Suffer
