There exists no politician in India daring enough to attempt to explain to the masses that cows can be eaten. - Indira Gandhi.

Probably that's why she is called "The original iron lady", title stolen by Lady Thatcher later.

I just like the guts she had to stand by herself in individuality of her thoughts. Though lot many people here castigate her. But she was the best prime minister we have had (my personal view) since i think till now if i look at any politico in india, none is determined as much as indira was. I gotta know a lot other facts about her from Raghu Rai, who shot "A Day in The Life of Indira".

I am tired of seeing those dumb headed and lamb type politicians who give up to allies demands and have no mind of theirs.

At least indira had a mind and had courage to speak it too

Indira Gandhi was Very individualistic human being...........She was an absolute power corrupted very early.most of the time she remained busy in satisfying her ego....MORE THAN ANY THING ELSE.But yes she had the brains of her own and of course yes, that she was too far superior and polished than the present day MONKEYS.

No though Indira Gandhi was one of the best PMs so far India have had. Though a bit polemic, but a person who walks on his own-made way, controversies will always erupt...!

I am a little puzzled about this idiom "cows can be eaten". Can someone explain? Though in her times (1968) a procession of Sadhus protesting against cow-slaughter was lathi-charged and fired near Patel Chowk, New Delhi, I doubt whether Indira Gandhi was in favour of "cows can be eaten". Or has this term been used for some other meaning?

well this term has been used for cow eating only. it was used in context that politicians in India say only which people love to listen and if somethings is against people's notions, we in india don't hav single politician who has courage to speak his mind irrespective of people's choice
 
Leaders should speak the language of public in democracy. Democracy never favours dictatorship. Leaders are for the welfare of public not to dictate the public. India was the worst PM who we have ever had..........
 
Indira Gandhi was a self serving, low class woman. When she was in high school in Switzerland, she got in trouble with the boys. She was a poor student. Then she had the audacity to put her opposition in jail, when she thought her power was in trouble. She was the one that initially supported Bhindrawala in order to cause problems for the state ruling party. Her father was no better. He believed that he was better than other indians...somehow superior.

Rajiv Gandhi might have been the best of Nehru clan.

it doesnt matter what kind of person she was..
she was a failure when it comes to politics..
she played dirty politics in punjab, and isolated a whole people.
COUNT ME ONE TRAIT OF GREAT LEADERS SHE POSESSED.
..no humility,compassion,affection for people...JUST DIRTY INDIVIDUALISTIC DIRTY POLITICS...which in the end torn apart her own house too
 
Let me clarify a few things about Indira Gandhi - she was average intellectually, very insecure about her looks, minimally educated, came from a disturbed family, was a snob and a control freak, no idea about realpolitik (did what her group of close sycophant advisors said....who were lining their own pockets with public cash by being Indira's puppetmasters by feeding into her insecurities).... because of which her economic theories are priceless!!. These were her admirable traits..........and also she was the biggest liar in the world (you should read on her Garibi hatao BS).
The above qualities made her cruel, soulless on top of the fact that she was a complete moron.
Before she came into politics ..she did not want to do any real politics in India....she wanted to buy a house in England and live over there because she thought Indians were uneducated, uncultured ........blah blah blah!! which I agree with.but how much sophistication can you have when you donot know when your next meal is gonna come from, cannot feed or clothe your children.......and there is a good chance that you might perish with your family with malaria in the next monsoon season - Hey who am I to judge ppl .....but maybe she should have taken her a$$ to England and not torture unsophisticated Indians.

OK.... here's an analogy that sums it up....... India Gandhi becoming the PM of our country was like..... an office temp with a bad attitude being made the CEO of the company.

Its easy to sit now and eulogise the Iron Lady ....why the f*ck is that a great human trait anyways????.........I think its an irony!!.........especially in her case....... the above statement is heavy but is not ironical. The term Iron lady is also an oxymoron btw.............coined by some stupid Britisher.


Its almost 2008....we need to stop obsessing about Indira Gandhi's metallurgical personality (let her pictures gather dust in police thaanas and congress offices).......and try our best to not see her legacy being brought back to life again..........lets move toward freedom and away from government tyranny.


I suggest all these scumbag politicians who talk about "Garibi Hatao" should be kicked in the gut with an iron bat with Indira Gandhi's picture on it. Leave the poeple alone....... they will hatao their garibi on their own............ they donot need any government subsidies......no NREG's.........all they need is to be left alone (socially and economically).......Inidans have the potential to hatao their garibi and are on their way.

Even a businessman can't think of flourishing without government support(Think about IBM And COKE in 1970s or liberalisation in 1991), forget about a poor man and then we have you talking here about government to stop subsidies and supplies to the poor?

If someone can hataofy garibi on their own.. they wouldn't have been gareeb any more....

It is called crony-capitalism....not a fan of that either.

Helping the poor is good..........but do you realize that its the politicians and bureaucrats who are helping themselves........80-90% of the funds never reach the poor......you must know that if you have grown up in India or have you been living with Terminator??
