The Jats in Rajasthan have attempted to raise the standard of woman education through institutional methods with financial contribution of their own. Members may like to see on the site-

very good effort and need to b encouragred . unfortunately ppls on jatland can discuss endlessly on mallika sehravat but not on such constructive topic.thanks burdak sahab for this information.

Is any member directly involved philanthropically or administratively in this institute or any other Jat Institute? On my next visit to India, I would like to see this wonderful institute.

The first educational institute for village Jat girls was started in Sikar (Grameen Mahila Sansthan) in 1988 by my late father-in-law, Sukhveer Singh Batar, who raised over 1 crore Rupees to build a girls' hostel in Sikar. Initially, it was a hostel only where rural girls could stay while attending school in Sikar. Now there is a college attached to the hostel.

Shri Laxmichand Arya followed the same model to open a hostel and school for Jat girls in Jhunjhunu. Although Shri Laxmichand is a Kumhar by caste, he has made immense contribution to the welfare of Jats.

The biggest contributor to the Jat education cause in Rajasthan has been Dr. Ghasi Ram Verma (first Jat in Rajasthan to do a Ph.D. in Math in 1957), now retired Professor from the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Verma has contributed over 1.25 crore Rupees to various Jat causes.

dr verma has certainly contributed a lot, i remmeber visting a frnd's house, dr verma has a big plot of land near her house, he was planning to construct a girls hostel there.i don't know what furter happened on that.but he has certainly done a lot of work

Gurukul, Khanpur, distt. Sonepat, Haryana

NEW DELHI, JAN. 8. In 1945, Ms. Subhashini Devi, daughter of Bhagat Phool Singh -- one of the pioneers of Gurukul education in Haryana -- laid the foundation of a Kanya Gurukul at Khanpur near Sonepat as desired by her father. Despite all odds, the Gurukul pioneered the cause of women's education and reforms in an area where child marriage was still prevalent and widow re-marriage was taboo.
1. Nurtured by a mother's love, the institution stands tall among rural education institutes in the country and the 88-year-old Subhashini, who in 1976 was awarded the Padmashri for the pioneering work she has done, still toils to bring comfort to the 2000-odd girls studying there.
Born into a peasant's family of Malik Jats, Ms. Subhashini dedicated her life to the Gurukul to fulfil her father's mission. ``I was serving as a teacher in a government school in Jind when my father asked me to leave my job and start an institution for girls coming from rural areas like the one he had started for boys. In 1934, I started the Gurukul in Jind which I shifted to Khanpur later,'' the 88-year-old educationist says.
Despite the many obstacles in her path, Ms. Subhashini moved ahead with an undaunting spirit to make the Gurukul the largest Center of girls education in Northern India. ``Initially, parents were reluctant to educate their girls. We went from village to village championing the cause of girl's education''.
It was the villagers who helped her in raising funds to sustain the institution. ``From day one, we have been giving uniforms to girls besides giving them boarding and lodging facilities. All successive Chief Ministers of Haryana have also helped us greatly,'' Ms. Subhashini says.
Such has been her commitment and dedication that it has inspired a young lecturer to do a doctoral thesis on her life and work. Dr. Nonica Dutta, who teaches in Delhi University's Miranda House, has recently completed a book on this woman educator of Haryana and it is in the process of getting published in England.
Ms. Subhashini has also done a great deal for women's rights and empowerment and inspired rural women to achieve a sense of independence. ``Girls used to be married off early in our area. we fought against it successfully. We also launched a successful movement against widows not being allowed to re-marry,'' the silent activist says.

Addenda:

The institution now consists of
1. School from nursery to plus-2
2. Post-graduate level college
3. Medical college in Ayurvedic medicine

Personal note:

1. It is an institution of high quality. My sister received her B.Sc. and B.ED. degrees from the Gurukul.
2. It was a special pleasure for me to spend some time there and I volunteered to teach a course in mathematics to B.Sc.III students. I still treasure that fine experience.

i belive mr vijay poonia also constructed hostels for both boys and girls in jaipur as early as 1974 and those are free of costs.those hostels are still running and lot jat girls and boys are benifiting from them.

Thanks all. I have come across a number of Engineering Colleges started by Jats. One of them is-
Swami Keshwanand Institute of Technology Management & Gramothan,Jaipur
This Institute was set up by Shri Raja Ram Meel in the year 2000 at Jaipur to promote quality education in Engineering and Technology. It is affiliated to University of Rajasthan. It provides B.E.degree in Information Technology,Computer Sc. & Engg.,Electronics & Communication Engg, Electrical Engg.
Admissions routed through RPET/AIEEE. See more details on the site-
http://www.swamikeshwanandinst.com

its really a good thing to have institutes meant for girls 'coz i think, the main problem with the jats is the lack of awareness. And so inst like ths 'll provide a better option to parents.
Even well educated jats prefer not to send girls to co-ed colleges outside local area ( 'coz Girls vis a vis IZZAT still tops thr priority list. according to a stat.- more than 90% of the cases where a girl trying to elope, was killed[by thr own parents] belong to jats).

Parents start planning for thr marriages even before they r finished with thr graduation. Girls are not encouraged to pursue thr independent profession. They r groomed up to align thr career and profession as per their marriage reqs.
Inspite of all the hullabaloo, dowry is still very much a part of all marriages and no one seems to mind it. Still celeberations like CHHUCHAK on the birth of a boy child are very common.

Dear Shri Laxman Burdak Ji and all other contributors.

Thanks for providing such a good information. I am sure there may be many more Jat Educational Institutions in the country. Other members are requested to add to the information on this topic.

Infact Gramin Mahila Shikshan Sansthan is very near to my house ,may be one kilometer.
earlier this hostel of girls had only hostel & girls had to go to other govt school to syudy .
Now they have started their own school & even started a college. I know Dr. Ghasiramji has done a lot of hard work in that. the amount he puts in these institutes makes me feel that he earns in US only to make these nice & wonderful hostels.
I dont mention only jats schools but to mention there are even Military Schools in India from where many Jats have risen to officers in Army ,Navy or Airforce & even joined wide professions & excelling there.
I remember when I was in Military School ,Jats were thought to excel in sports in that School & if there was any event a jats name was given for that game without even telling him coz they knew Jats would de really well in them.
though these schools are not solely for jats but they are doing very well for jats.
