Kashmir-what could be the solution?

I know it’s a very controversial issue and might have been debated earlier on this portal many time. But still, to be honest, I don’t know what would be the best solution. But certainly it cant go like this for ever. We all have to be honest and lets accept the real facts. It’s a desputed territory and cant be compared with other states at present.
In short there are 3 parties involved: Kashmiri Awam, Indian Republic and Pakistani Republic. In short below is what they think.

What Kashmiri Awam thinks: Majority of Kashmiri people want freedom. They want both Kahsmir to be united and have an independant state. Then it would be upto them to decide whether they want to join India or Kashmir. We all know the Raja Harisingh story but they say why it wasn’t followed in Junagad or Hyderabad. Well yes there can be lot of arguments for or against it but now the reality is kashmiri people today want independence. They don’t consider themselves to be a part on india.

Indian Republic views: India thinks that Kashmir is an integral part of republic india and we also want to control whole kashmir but somehow today the Govt has realised that its not possible. Hence they want LOC to be international boundry. The main reason behind controliing kashmir is emotional one and also to control natural resources and strategic issues. We cant afford pakistan or china to control these mountains and resources, they say.

Pakistan views: Pakistan views and their claim is based on religion. As majority of kasmiris are muslim, hence they think its natural for them to have a claim on it. Of course they also want to control natural resources and have strategic advantage.

We all know all these. OK Its also not new that we havent faced such call before. In fact we faced it from each corner. North-East, Tamil Nadu, Punjab etc. What we did is replied with strong and somewhat brutal force, used army and then gave generous donations and rebuild the state. This worked for us. Many people don’t remember what khalistan was or the people in your generation in Mizoram believe they are Indian citizen.

But Kahsmir? Why it didn’t work there? We tried everything Article 370, no other indian can vote there or buy land there. We give so much monetary assitance to them, so much have been donated for development. Whats wrong? They still want freedom and those who claim we are largest democracy in the world, to them, Can our democracy afford to hold people like this who no longer want to be part of India

Recently the demonstration show they hate India. People ask us about human rights in Kashmir? We are spending so much in Kashmir, Look at our budget, look at our military expense and what we get in return? Hate, abuse.? For how long we can take this ! But than what else we can do?

One solution can be as below(my personal opinion):

Well we tried everything and it didn’t work? It also cant go like this for ever. Lets give them autonomy. Let them deicide where they want to go. We wont lose much because Jammu and Ladak still want to be part of us. Its not a big area. its only 1/10 th of Bhutan. Moreover a small piece of land cant decide a country's security. We want to be a super power and a great democracy then we can afford to do this. For how long we can control them like this. Moreover we are giving them 10 times more than other poor states. Lets use that fund to develop other states. Its time to be practical and be realistic. I know its very emotional for us but what else can we do. We should hold a referendum in Kashmir and let them decide their future. If they want to stay with us, they are welcome if they want to go with pakistan, we wouldnt lose much but in fact we would be saved by this burden on our resources. Anyway Pak is already holding some area of Kashmir. If they want an independent state let them do. Eventually they may realise that being with India is much better than being with Pakistan or being Independent. Even if they dont we are still better off.

Its not 60 years before like situation that we can send military and capture it. And why should we do that only for a tiny piece of land. Lets get real and accept that its a disputed territory thats why it got Article 370 and not any other state has this. These politicians dont want a solution to it and keep refuelling it.

What else could be the best solution? Please share.

P.S: Here I refered Kashmir as Kashmir Valley who wants independance not whole Jammu & Kashmir.View attachment 10383

For How long New Delhi will live in Denial?

NEW DELHI: Such is the anger in the Valley that these youths, most of them with no prior political affiliations, are now willing to throw caution to the winds and give up their career dreams for "azadi".

A final year commerce student, Atiq, a "stone-pelter" himself, calls it a "haq ki ladaai (a fight for rights)". At 21, Atiq should have been weighing career options. But he says there are can be no career without a future.

"I am not scared that I will die by a bullet. I would have died doing something good. I have lived my life in the shadow of bullets. I can die by one without any remorse," he says in chaste Urdu.

But why pelt stones? "Throwing stones is retaliation. The forces have attacked us, shooting bullets at our chest and above the waist. They beat us without provocation. Won't we aim stones at their heads? The forces are lying when they say that they shoot in self-defence," he adds.

Agrees Riyaz, a management teacher at a city university who has participated in 80 to 90 protest marches by now. "I have studied in Saudi Arabia and central Asia. When I came back to Srinagar some years back, I was 17 years old and I realized that I had been living in an illusion. The reality was that we were constantly checked at gunpoint and were always under suspicion. There was no freedom here. It was a huge shock," he says in fluent English.

He explains how stone pelting came as a spontaneous reaction. "We have been subjected to unprovoked violence. The forces do it on purpose to spread fear and oppression. We can't fight the might of the government militarily, so we are employing every means possible to get our voice heard including stone pelting, speaking to the international media and writing articles that give our point of view," he says.

Kashmiris deserve "truth and justice", he says, adding the movement was a retaliation to India's unfulfilled promise. He has watched friends get picked up from their homes in the middle of the night, seen his family being searched at checkposts and decided he had had enough.

Hamid, a postgraduate, says that the disenchantment and anger has spread to entire families and is no longer restricted to certain groups. "My mother who never allowed me to step out in protest, yesterday said enough is enough and asked us to go out and protest," he says.

Atiq too says his parents know he pelts stones but do not discourage him from going out during curfew hours.

Desperate Housewives with stone in hands

Vipin,
Nobody seems to be bothered about what is happening in Kashmir. Nobody in the Government- Centre or State.
In last few stone-pelting incidents, the images on various channels showed not just the young boys but women too in full force coming out against the forces, defying curfew orders.
There must be something seriously wrong. The women have been suffering for long. Probably they can no longer take it and are out to show their agony. When young boys loose their lives or men are killed, it is the women who suffer the pain of loosing a son/ brother/ husband/father. And then there are rapes and other crimes against them. But who cares.
There are people who say it is all Pak sponsored or Mehbooba instigating or Geelani is a Pak agent. They say women are being used as shield against the forces. But do you think women in such large numbers would come out in protests unless they are full of pain and agony? Merely putting the blame on various people would find any solution?

Enough is Enough!!! …Abjure Violence!!!
These are the messages coming from PC led Home Ministry against any kind of violence in leading dailies. But has it not been Enough in Kashmir? For how long ?

Omar has turned out to be a failure as CM. He spends more time in Delhi. Seems to have no connect with the Ordinary Kashmiri. Though he has stopped coloring his hair lately, to show his worries:tamatar
Omar should have been a Minister at Centre so he could enjoy it in Delhi without bothering to go to Kashmir while his father should have been in the valley.

Sardarji has made a statement two days back, after more than 50 young boys lost their lives, that he would work to provide them jobs and they should go back to school.
Is this the kind of atmosphere you provide children to study? And what took so long to make this statement now, not earlier?

Geelani has asked people to celebrate Pak I-Day on 14 Aug and 15 Aug as a ‘black-day’.
People will blame him but what have those in corridors of power Delhi done? They just wait and watch and have made a mess of ‘the Heaven on Earth’

Hope... it all gets sorted out during our lives.

regards,
bharti.

Desperate Housewives:
What is making the ordinary Kashmiri woman so angry that she is out on the street, throwing stones at police and leading a mob of enraged people?

M Saleem Pundit | TNN

Srinagar: Kashmiri women traditionally evoke contradictory images in the world’s consciousness: a dimpled Sharmila Tagore coyly rowing a shikara on the Dal Lake in Kashmir ki Kali; a group of burqa-clad women thrashing the owner of a beauty parlour in the heart of Srinagar; an ashenfaced woman standing alone by a broken window, watching a funeral procession out on her street. But the prevailing image of the last few weeks is of women walking the Valley’s roads and shouting slogans against the Indian forces.
Last week, as the government in Delhi was busy blaming “outside” forces for provoking young children to throw stones at police and paramilitary forces, the women came out of their houses on one Srinagar street, bringing their pots and pans with them. They beat on the utensils, used them like cymbals and ran down the street, picking up stones and taking aim at a column of troops. The scene was replayed on other streets. The women — mostly housewives and young girls — had emerged from their homes to throw stones at the security forces and burn government jeeps. For a change, the police, which has felled 51 people in almost as many days, couldn’t fire their SLRs.
Is the Kashmiri woman’s new ‘movement’ all that new? Not really. Kashmir’s women have been coming out onto the streets since 1990, when the insurgency began in the state. But this is the first time they have chucked stones, burned vehicles and led demonstrations against the police. In the years the militancy was at its peak, the women in villages, towns and cities across the Valley routinely emerged from their homes to shout slogans for “Azaadi”.
In those years, the separatists and their sympathizers would use the women as human shields, preventing decisive action by the security forces. Every time, a militant was arrested, a sympathizer would run to a mosque and use its loudspeakers to ask the women to come out in protest. “Maajan, benan cho wanane yawa ki tem neran sadakan pat (Mothers and sisters are requested to come out on the roads for protests),” was the message that reverberated through the Valley in the 1990s.
In this unquiet summer of 2010, the scene is a bit different. There are no urgent announcements from the mosques but the women are coming out in large numbers, on their own. They are not serving as human shields. They are leading the stone-pelting crowds. As the roads outside their houses boil with rage, many mothers and sisters have become
street-fighters, joining husbands, sons and brothers in the demonstrations that have been erupting for weeks.
Asiya Andarabi, the separatist leader, believes part of the reason is because Kashmir’s women can no longer ignore the death and mayhem outside their homes. “Every woman is affected by the turmoil here. Hundreds of Kashmiri women have their husbands in jails. Their husbands have been killed by security forces. So their anger is genuine,” says Andarabi, who founded the separatist Dukhtaran-e-Millat or Daughters of the community.
Many in the Valley share this anger. Parveena Ahangar, who heads the association of parents of disappeared persons, says the women have suffered the most during Kashmir’s tumultuous years. “My son was picked by the BSF men in early 1990s and since then his whereabouts are not known. Who can douse my anger?”
Ahangar, who lives in Batamaloo in Srinagar, travels to Lal Chowk every couple of weeks to join dozens of women in a sit-in protest to “remind
the authorities about the missing persons”. “I have dedicated my life to Kashmir’s struggle,” says Ahangar, who is haunted by the memory of her son.
But it is more than the trauma of the past. The continuing presence of heavily-armed Indian soldiers seems to have triggered a deep and fierce anger. Rozy Salim, 40, joined the protests two weeks ago, saying she could no longer bear the security forces going berserk in her locality every now and then. “Let India read the writing on the wall and realize the anger of Kashmiris against the occupation of Kashmir. They should allow the Kashmiris to decide their fate as per the UN resolutions,” she says.
In the last two months, thousands of young boys have taken part in protests against police firing. Most of the protests ended in more police firing. Their mothers are worried and fearful their sons will be injured or shot dead. The worry has provoked them to anger. Jana Begum of Rawalpora went out to protest last week after her 22-year-old son was picked up by police for taking part in a street rally. “We will demolish every symbol of the state as our sons are being targeted by the forces,” she says. Jana’s neighbour Fatima Khan says she stands by Jana and other women whose sons have been picked up by the police for pelting stones at them.
Though many agree that the sight of women throwing stones is an indicator of the people’s rage at the state, some say there is nothing unusual about it. “Women here come out to protest against electric power and water shortage as well,” says Ghulam Mohammad Dar, 60, a resident of Pampore. But even he agrees that the sight of the security forces beating women with sticks and opening fire to stop them in their tracks is a new low for Kashmir. “It’s something I haven’t seen before,” Dar says.
These ugly scenes may be playing themselves out in Srinagar’s workingclass neighbourhoods, but middle-class women are affected too. Many say they are moved by the daily pitched battles between the people and paramilitary forces. Dr Shameem Dar says that the fact “the Kashmiri women are forced to come out on the streets when forces arrest or use excessive force against the stone pelters, is a reaction to the use of force against their sons and husbands.”
How long can this go on? Now, the guns are being trained on the women too. Last Sunday, Afroza Teli was hit by a bullet as she stood in a protest on a road at Khrew. Another woman Fancy Jan died last month from a bullet that hit her as she looked out of her window. In Kashmir today, women seem ready for the good fight, facing bullets on the streets and at their windows.

Request: Wanted to upload the pictures too along with this report but due to some technical problem am not able to do so.
Vipin or someone, Please help.

And when Jats protest for reservation, they are termed as Violent groups with no one giving them an ear.

I'm not comparing the situations under which these protests are happening. Just wanted to bring out the way the media pictures different stories in different manners. Kashmir's autonomy(which may trigger fierce protests in other states especially Tamilnadu/Andhra) looks "deserving" to them and demand of reservation for the upliftment of Jat society is "very much undeserving" to them.

Huh!..I am sick of seeing this wave of sympathy and compassion for these creeps. I wonder why anyone does not speak about the fate of the Hindus of the kashmir who were tortured relentlessly, forced to abandon their home. There were countless atrocities on hindus, men were killed ,women were raped. Still is there any justice for them in this country??...no..were there home and land restored to them?..any security of Hindus who are living in the "Hell of Earth" from these fanatic murderers/rapists?...No..a big no............. These traitors have to suffer..they deserve it.... I hope that army will keep beating there butts without any mercy.

This is not about the sympathy or compassion. Its more about the solution to this problem. As keeping this alive is no good for India. But yes it surely is good for politics thats why we are spending so much money to keep it alive. Its more about accepting that this is a problem and need solution. What you would achieve by spending thousands of crores(which could be used in your state or mine state for our betterment, for everyone's betterment) and beating their Butts? Moreover hindu problem which you are talking about is a recent one but this was a issue long before that. Why the Govt didnt resolve it during the peaceful time?

Lastly, I hope you understand the situation and understand the meaning of traitor as well.

Indeed, this is an issue to be taken seriously,,,rather very seriously.,,the women coming out on streets to show their anger seems to me as ''RAGE OF ANGELS'' , I believe there is something seriously wrong going on there,,both with the army as well as civilians,,there may be some extremists present in the society like Hurriyat and all supported by our ''Old pal pakistan'' but so was the case of Punjab (khalistan ),,the insurgency needs to be dealt with strictly, it may even lead to a small war kind situation in the state also for some time,,but it will be rather good as then there peace will be established., But on the other hand the army has not a very good moral and social impression there. A friend of mine told me that one of his known is posted ( ARMY) in Kashmir,,once while patrolling he found a very beautiful girl alone,,and that bastard ,,son of gun,,outraged the modesty of the innocent who fell prey to so called ''saviors'' alone. This is REAL SHAME ON PART OF INDIAN ARMY. Till the time the Army ,Police, CRPF and whatever are not moral enough the situation will be the same forever. First these battling heros of ours should improve and implement strict discipline and than the people will follow the same.
And then we say that A LOT OF MONEY IS BEING POURED INTO THIS STATE TO DEAL INSURGENCY,,money is not the matter and it can never be,,the thing is there should be peace ,,,peace in the atmosphere,, peace of mind,, a certainty in the mind of people that there loved ones will be back home by the evening/night and not be shot dead either by army or militants.
---------> the very first thing is a stable government,,there should be no politics in the state rather there should be president's rule for a couple of years. because these politicians ruling or in opposition are making hell lot of money making use of the state situation.
---------> During this time the people of the state should be encouraged to study, develop there infrastructure, and be given the opportunities to work and develop the state as a tourism hub to boost the local economy hence inducting new energy in the people.
---------> Our Army , CRPF, BSF should be present on the borders actively of the state to cut down any resource supplying by ''our Old Pal'' and from china to fuel insurgency in the state.

After these basics implemented, we will be able to see the change definitely.
GIVING UP HOPE or LET THE PEOPLE decide what they want can never solve the purpose because the mobs can be easily tamed by sharp brains ,,so a rule should be there with strict discipline,, and let the POK be a separate state as it is now and had been for 6 decades.

Vipin ji....If you are so concerned about the solution of the problem and you insist to leave kashmiri people free to decide their fate. What about others? Entire norh-east is burning from decades, they also want independence. Let them free or gift that region to China. Bangla deshis are also breaching the borders in bulk, creating havoc in west bengal, give that region to bangladesh. Not only north east, tamils, telgus also want separate countries for them. Sometimes back, sikhs also fought for "khalistan". Raj thackery doe snot want anyone lese except Maratha Manus to enter in Mumbai. Last but not least some guys here also want "Jatistan"...lol......... Let us bow down to their whims and see this country again scattered in hunderds small "riyasats" if not thousands. By the way, if you are so concerned about the money wastage why don't you break into these politicians and corrupt bureaucrats homes.

I dont know which one of the two are you but y are u taking it personal. You dont have to agree to me. Moreover read my first post for my views on other state.

Above i have asked what could be the solution?? You tell me, if you know any better one. And I believe Kashmir valley is diff than other states. Its a disputed terrority unlike others. The whole world also see it as a disputed terrority which means it need to be settled by all three parties. What you will get by refuelling it and keeping it alive like this. Settle this once for all.

Its only the innocents who has to suffer always because of these cheap politics.

Thik keh rahe ho bhai..Vaise hi country struggle kar raha hai..Divide ho gaya to apas mei ladne lag jayenge..aur bahar ke logg fayda utha lenge..I disagree with some here who are advocating for division of Kashmir.

Use soft words and carry a long stick

Give autonomy to kashmiris will be disaster. 100s of other groups will demand for autonomy and India's boundaries will align with Delhi's

They systematically threw away kashmiri Pandits from valley and current violent clashes are all sponsored by ISI. There is a calm in valley after Pakistan Floods.

Shift half of Bihari mass to valley and set-up some industries there. There is no other way around...
We have enough population to mitigate any uprising against country.

Cue on solution can be taken from the unexpected end..our Bete Noire China. We can have a similar approach what China has taken on Hong Kong. for the uninitiated, Hong Kong, erstwhile colony of britishers, was handed over back to China in 1997. As expected Hongkongers were asking for autonomy, freedom etc and were not willing to be back in China's fold. China, the aggressive power it is, gave a Special administrative region status to Hong kong and set a deadline of 50 Years to fully assimilate Hong kong with China. But China is not sitting Idle, it has started few strtegic programs:

1. China has already made Mandarin as a second official language to Cantonese (hongkong language)..this ensures faster cultural assimilation.
2. Hongkongers are special category and has green channel access in Visa process etc like Visa on Arrival..
3. Cross employment of chinese and Hongkongers across the region.
4. Chinese beaureaucrats have a higher say in Hong Kong affairs, Hong Kong CEO has got his wings clipped by chinese.
5. Any demand for freedom is treated with an absolute iron fist. Clear message driven that no one should mess with Chna Mainland.etc
6. Increased assimilation of Commerce etc.
7. Hong Kong as such is as good as a developed country and does not need any package etc from china..so the trick is to incept the hongkongers mind with cultural & economic invasion atl arge.

On the same lines:

1. Let Article 370 be there for time being. But start a time bound Confidence Building process with Kashmiris. Let us not say that within 50 Years Kashmir will be integral part of India but certainly we can espouse that kashmiris will be integarted with India more on say commerce basis...setting up national institutes in Kashmir region.. specil quota for kashmiris in Indian govt jobs etc etc.

2. Be clear that Kashmir will bever be ceeded come what may.

3. Engage Kashimiris with REAL Development not with typical monetary packages.. which are consumed up by corruption.

4. have excellent connectivity through road etc. Let Kashmiris build up their Kashmir with ther own hands through Co-operative means.

5. Cultural Invasion..on the lines of what China does in hongkong.

6. Let the government see a mirror image of Gujrat in kashmir...Do soem real stuff in Kashmir, develop on lines of Gujarat.

7. Iron Fisted approach to militancy...use the media...to gag un wanted reporting...let media sing as per the strategic goal of government.

8. Let there be a cabinet rank special reprsentative group of Kashmiri people in GOI, all development activities and funds be diverted through them.

9. Special Incentives for private companies having facilities in kashmir or employing kshmiri people.

10. Engage them with development in such a way that they even fear to get weaned away from prosperity of india.

11. Stage managed gag orders on separatists. Let there be encounters of ultras/separatist leaders in the form of road accidents ;)

12. Feed them, indulge them in prosperity for next 50 years, bring them in mainstream and then start curtailing provisions of 370. Create ICONs from Kashmiris who work in Indian Mainland..use media for this.

13. Let the Muslim Ulemas of rest of the country to be a channel of all the above measures...

14. Remember that Autonomy is just a short term peace making effort, final resolution lies in absolute integraton (this may be a confidential point in strategy;))

15. And last but not the least, Let the vote bank politics of muslim appeasement be curtailed and only Development politics play its role.

2.

Our politicians miserably failed while handling the Kashmir Issue since its birth. It was Nehru who could be blamed for making it an issue otherwise our forces already occupied it in 1947-48. Our forces just asked for some more time to secure Total Kashmir but Nehru was so obsessed with the idea of UN Security Council and was so desperate to register it there as an International Issue. So Nehru, blindly ignoring the advices of Cabinet Ministry including strong voices of Sardar Patel (Home Minister ) and K.P.S. Menon (Foreign Secretary), asked UN to intervene in 1948 and it was a cease fire. At that time we had a upper hand in the military positions but lost that advantage due to poor political approach.

In 1965, we were again almost up to it but we again lost it due to our Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shahstri's sudden death in mysterious circumstances in Tashkant (USSR) in 1965 when he was there for cease fire talks hosted by USSR.

In 1971, Indira Gandhi was already facing the heat from world so she hardly could do anything about it.

After that nobody seems to be serious about solving the issue rather than using it as an issue. When BJP came into power first time, they imposed Governor's Rule and the the Governor was really doing appreciable job (Mr. Jagmohan .. if i remember correctly ) and things were turning out pretty good. But they also couldn't hold the pressure from opposition and the world.

Apart from these few landmarks, there is nothing significant from our politicians regarding this issue.

Some people seems blaming the foul play by the armed forced. They should pay some attention about the problems of those people who are there to put their lives at stake for nothing. One stupid politician says something from an AC room in Delhi and soldiers die there for nothing. Next day, another moron says something else from Mumbai and soldiers faces the in Kashmir. After facing the heat for more than a couple of decades anybody can become frustrated like anything. Locals are their enemies, state officials are not their friends and central government deployed them to die there for NOTHING. What the hell ? I am not saying that they should do what they being blamed for but if they are doing anything wrong that's due to he stupid policies of of government.

BJP don't have enough will power and Congress have incredibly shameless muslim appeasement policies. Is there any other option available ? NO.

I do not know what solution could have been in the past but today i see only two solutions. Either become a big bad guy and get back our land with MIGHT or become a adventurer diplomat and declare the current occupied areas as respective territories.

Declaring LoC as international border and full merge of Kashmir (i.e, Indian Administrated Kashmir) into Indian Union is the only feasible option. Sooner or later!!

Obviously, it seems to be the only solution as our selfish and coward politicians don't have any courage to face some International Heat.
:)
