Lt Gen V K Singh superceded by BHARDWAJ as Vice Army Chief

Lt Gen V K Singh is superceded by Lt Gen PC Bhardwaj as new Vice Army Chief of India.

Lt Gen V K Singh , Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command , is the seniormost officer and was tipped to be next Vice Chief of Army as per existing seniority & rules.

Remember whoever will be Vice-Chief will be Chief of Army Staff in 2010-11.

-----------

All those who will vote for CONGRESS have to answer for this act of suppression.

CM's Hooda wife Asha hosted a function in honour of wife of General Kapoor ( who is said to be behind this plotting ).......she have to answer now for suppression for LT Gen V K SINGH.

Whatever you do..whether you send them to Rajya Sabha..or whatever....they will backstab!
Thats why CM post should be given to someone who is Strong active physically fit, who can think well.

Iska to sas phool ja se bhashan dein main hein.

------------

Before this LT Gen KADYAN was not made ARMY CHIEF ,despite being Vice Chief of Army and thus seniormost among qualifieds.

-------------

JAT should start thinking on lines of separate STATE.

It is not that every time it has happened what is regular is that a jat is often superceded by a Brahmin just when Gen AS Vaidya became supeceding another JAT general and he resigned.

Sampat ji,

Imagine how frustarting it would be for Lt Gen V K Singh to go through this "injustice". Isn't there a way he could have challenged the decision when he deserves the position most because of his seniority/ qualifications?

Illogical thread

To support our community is fine but a blind support is something else. First of all why do you believe that JATs are suppressed? I have never felt like that.

Secondly, why do you think Mr. Singh was more credible than Mr. Bhardwaj?

Thirdly Congress is not just about who is gonna be chief of army, and this can not be a reason at all to vote for or against the congress.

Finally, I do not understand your statement about separate state? Where does that come from.

I fully respect your personal views but I believe that you have a very narrow and shallow perceptions about the things. Please keep the casteism away from politics and social welfare.

What Does it Mean???

Dear Members,
I don't know unless the things have changed in past 10 years or so, usually, one of the Army Commnaders takes over as the COAS. To the best of my knowledge the VCOAS is a ceremonial appointment. So while making any comment, one must look into this aspect.

The second point is the controversy of JAT Vs BRAHMIN, that some members are raising. I don't know if Lt Gen V K Singh is Jat by caste to say the least. He is I think from Rajput Regiment, and I am not sure what caste he belongs to. As far as I am concerned, the soldiers don't believe in caste they believe in Regiments and Color that their regiments carry. So, unless you are extremely sure, kindly don't raise such controversy.

The third question is the debate that was going on about Lt Gen V K Singh's date of birth. It is a controversial issue. Several times officers when suddenly realizing that they might come up for promotion to the higher ranks, ask for the revision of age, claiming the poor records about age that were prevailing in our system. Where no one knew the exact date of birth of an individual. My objection to the revision of DOB is, why at that stage? If one knows that his DOB is wrong, one can correct it at the time of filling up of the 10th Board examination forms. But then we want to take advantage of this "AGE" as it suits us. I don't know what is true and what is not. I am still optimistic that Lt Gen V K Singh makes it to the COAS. Coming on to the Lt Gen Bhardwaj, well he is from one of the finest Regiment of the Indian Army, the Parachute Regiment. He is decorated soldier and as qualified as Lt Gen V K Singh is.

While it is not a good idea to supersede an officer at that stage or for that matter on any stage, except for the reasons of Merit and competence, let us not raise the passions unless we see the writing on the wall in real sense.

I would wait and watch.

He He i found this to be so hilarious !!! should get a sep state bcoz some guy dint get the post he was supposed to get (or not) !!!

I can't stop laughing !!!

Anyway on a serious note I remember someone once told me that generally jats/rajputs are considered hot blooded (and sometime makes rush decisions base on emotions) and military leadership & political leadership don't appoint them to the top most position ....I MUST say ye suni sunaye baat hei, I dont know the merit of the statement but would like get a comment from Col Virendra Tavathia ji....isit true ? Is there any underlying rule of thumb not to promote jat/rajput to the topmost decision making bodies/positions?

Cheers

Apparently, it is on the recommendation of the current incumbent, Deepak Kapoor.

From newswires:

"Incidentally, to pave the way for Bhardwaj’s promotion, General Deepak Kapoor had recommended to the Defence Ministry that an officer with around two years of service left should take over the office so that he can get a grip of things and continue for a longer period."

It is also not clear if Singh would be superceded again when the appointment of Army Chief comes up, as Defence Minister has said this “the mere fact that somebody is a vice-chief does not mean he is going to be the next chief.”

There is a more serious insinuation here.

http://www.dnaindia.com/india/repor...j-named-next-vice-chief-of-army-staff_1287051

"Bhardwaj will assume office on October 1 when Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj retires. His elevation flies in the face of arguments by the army headquarters when he earlier replaced then northern command chief Lt Gen HS Panang, who had ordered over 100 court of inquiries into financial irregularities at the Udhampur-based command. Kapoor was Panang's predecessor.

The army had then argued that Bhardwaj would have a long tenure and that would stabilise the military leadership in Jammu and Kashmir. Now, by moving him out, it is countering its own claim. Strangely, after Bhardwaj took over the northern command not one of the over 100 inquiries has come to a logical conclusion, nor has anyone been punished for impropriety."

Nothing on caste here, but this in my view is a much more serious allegation. Do retired army officers have more info. on this?

Does anyone even know if VK Singh is a Jat or not? And probably we can avoid doing a Mayawati by blaming everything on "Manuwadi" forces/Brahmins. After 40 years of service, with close association to one's batallion, brigade, regiment, etc. and after working closely with people from all parts of India, what favor one does should be quite independent of castes. There can easily be a Jat and a Brahmin who are thick friends and 2 Jats who don't see eye to eye.

Apparently this particular Brahman-
"is a decorated officer of the elite 1 Para (Special Forces) battalion of the Parachute Regiment unit, who was awarded the Vir Chakra for bravery in the 1971 India-Pakistan war and has participated in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka.

He has held various important positions, including the command of Delhi Area and the Leh-based 14 Corps, before moving to the Udhampur-based Northern Command."

Maybe he should have died in the 1971 and got a posthumous award. Would we have acknowledged then that we don't have a monopoly in doing sacrifices for the country?

Fauj is full of Politics. I dont think that the fauj even attracts good talent anymore. I was in NDA in 2005 and saw a lot of cadets. I couldnt believe thats the best we could get at the Nation's premier Defense Academy. Phookk maar dyo te udd jyaange!

Accept for maybe a few who I know from Jatland and Orkut, current Generation of Army Officers dont even have the personality of an officer.

Woh Puraane officers waali baat nahin rahi. Solid Dashing Personality! the very characteristics that motivated me to consider fauj after High School but couldnt due to a severe accident.

This is what they have done to the Indian Defense Forces because of politics. Maybe or maybe not Lt. General Singh is a victim of politics. I dont know. But, I can guarantee that Lt. General Bharadwaj is defenitely where he is because of politics at the MOD.

I surely do not doubt the caliber of any officer in the Army's top brass. Politics can help you only so much. At the end of the day a lot depends on how good of a soldier you are. I am sure all these lousy army officers that I talked about above will be weeded out as they advance in their respective careers.

dear all,
never heard a vice coas making to the chief.every haryanvi is not a jat.rajputs and barhamins are same for us.any way gen bhardwaj is a very capable officer. if i am not wrong, gen singh is rajput from bhiwani .and gen bhardwaj is also from haryana..but not sure about him.

Some thoughts and request

I had temporarily closed this thread, to allow members to calm down.

Some members responded to the offensive post- their thread have also been deleted,( no fault of theirs) so that all related posts are gone.

The thread is now reopened.

Members are reminded that foul language, can and will get you banned.

If I could very humbly suggest ,we should follow Col. Tewatia’s very mature lead and guidance.

My comments:

1. Politics is everywhere. A good commander needs to be a political ,leader as well.

2. There is little point in trying to negatively stereotype communities- e.g Brahmins, Khatris etc. and railing( abusing) against them. It creates an unnecessary and uncalled for negativity/ backlash.

3. Jats do not have a monopoly of military jobs or heroism. Other communities do quite well too. This martial race thing a bit of fallacy, when you think about it.

4. To get ahead , Jats have to change, adapt, and learn to use their brains, not just brawn. They have to network better too.

5. To get ahead, our younger generation needs education, not just in the subject /marks, but also in our culture and ithihaas.

6. Bhardwaj is also a Jat goth.

7. Let us congratulate Gen Bhardwaj and work with him

Take Care

Body of Lt Bharadwaj, five others recovered

New Delhi, July 14 (HT Correspondent)

The Indian Army today recovered the mortal remains of six soldiers of 4 jat battalion, including that of Lt Amit Bharadwaj, while re-occupying Bajrang post in the Kaksar sub-sector.

The six soldiers had been missing since May 17. An Indian Army spokesman said the bodies were discovered while searching the positions vacated by the retreating Pakistan Army. Lt Bharadwaj and his men were among the first to encounter the enemy in the Kargil sector. He led the patrol after Captain Saurav Kalia and his men from the same unit went missing in the Kaksar area on May 8 near Bajrang post.

It is understood that the bodies of Lt Bharadwaj and his men could be seen lying in the vicinity of Bajrang post but could not be recovered due to heavy enemy fire. According to the spokesman, the Indian troops were in the process of verifying enemy withdrawal and occupying designated heights closer to the LoC in the Kargil sector. He said in the past 24 hours, enemy continued with intermittent artillery shelling in Dras sector in which one Indian soldier died. The Army spokesman took the opportunity to point out that former Pakistan Army Chief Mirza Aslam Beg has stated that 40 Pakistan Army officers have been killed in Kargil mis-adventure.

Meanwhile, General V P Malik, Chief of Army Staff, has awarded the Chief of Staff Banner to the Ladakh Scouts in acknowledgement of the outstanding valour, sacrifice and patriotism displayed by it during Operation Vijay. The Banner shall be presented to the Ladakh Scouts by Gen Malik at a special ceremony to be held in Leh. Ladakh Scouts have already been awarded the unit citation by the Chief of Army Staff for their exemplary performance, particularly in the Batalik sector.

The IAF today carried out round-the-clock reconnaissance and air defence missions in the Kargil sector. While no evidence of the intruders was noticed, the IAF’s fighters continued to carry out surveillance in the area. Meanwhile, bodies of 11 Army personnel including that of Captain Jintu Gogoi of 17 Garhwal battalion, who laid down their lives fighting the Pakistan Army in Kargil sector, were brought here today. Six of these soldiers belonged to 17 Jat and five to 17 Garhwal.

The soldiers who sacrificed their lives are : Sepoys Vinod Kumar, Rajvir Singh, Dharamvir Singh, Gazpal Singh, Krishan Kumar and Subedar Harphul Singh (of 17 JAT) and Captain Jintu Gogoi, Lance Naiks Madan Singh, Davinder Prasad, Riflemen Jaideep Singh and Varinder Lal (of 17 Garhwal).

THOSE WHO DON'T VOICE AGAINST UNJUST ARE COWARD.
)

Dear Mr. Deswal,
You are right, those who don't raise the voice against UNJUST are coward. Well, before raising any voice first one must understand whether or not unjust has been done? and that is why I have said wait and watch. I was not born when Battle of Panipat was fought, and I am not in India at this time. However, brave people like yourself are there, so we really don't have to worry. Kindly raise your voice and do some thing meaningful apart from just writing on this forum. Please also let us know, what you intend to do to get Justice to Lt. Gen. V K Singh, if an injustice has in fact been done to him. May be many more of us would join under your leadership for the right cause.
The fact of the matter is most people dont' understand the various criteria that the army follows. Is there any possibility of a foul play? may be. But the decision on the COAS's appointment has not yet been taken and we need to wait till then. Army Cdr is an active rank and is a command appointment. Vice Chief is not a command appointment and that is the difference.
Continuity is a big factor. By mere seniority if some one has to serve, only for couple of months or for a short period of one or one and half year, then it might be in a larger interest of the organization to get the person who is likely to serve for two to three years.
When army chief recommends continuity, it might be in relation to the Vice Chief's appointment itself. If Lt. Gen V K Singh is slated to become COAS in October, then why make him Vice Chief unless he can serve in VCOAS's appointment for a substiantial time. In any case Army Commander is much more powerful appointment then the Vice Chief.

Your Question.

Tavathia Sir,
Could you explain what a "ceremonial" appointment entails? Can it be appealed?
Regards,
Anju

Dear Anju Ji,

Army Commander is a command of the field formation. It is the dream of every officer to rise to this rank. Many officers become Lt. Gen. but don't get to the command of an Army. So, that is an extremely powerful appointment. Vice Chief is deputy to the COAS, and comes into play only if Chief is temporarily not available. It is not like US President and Vice President Situation, where the Vice President becomes the president if the President dies. If Chief dies, it is most likely that senior most Army Commander will take over the COAS's post. VCOAS is a staff appointment. Army Commander's job description is much more powerful then that of the VCOAS, and hence the word "Ceremonial".

I don't think that is True!

Aman
Dear Aman,
I don't think that is true. Firstly, as I have said earlier, a soldier is just a soldier, and does not belong to any caste/religion. I consider soldiering is a religion in itself, and soldier is his caste. So, one should never raise such an issue. Lt. Gen Sinha was superseded in real sense, he was not Jat or Rajput.
When I joined army, I did hear the same thing, mostly propogated by the officers who spent their day in playing cards or gossips and evenings in drinking. Obviously, most of them never made it to the rank of Lt Col. Such officers not only don't work, also spoil the organization. I was told in formative stages of the career, that Jats, Rajputs and Sikhs were not given the top appointment for the similar reasons as you have mentioned. But I don't think that has any merit. If the officers from these castes did not rise to the top rank, then it is purely a coincedence, rather then a design. We have seen now a Sikh becoming the COAS. I am sure we will see a Jat and Rajput also becoming chief in future.
So, let us not spread the rumours, they are not good for the community.
