Srinagar/New Delhi: Two top Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders were among the five terrorists killed in long-drawn fierce gunbattles in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Bandipora district since Tuesday night.
The intensity of the two encounters with the well-armed terrorists can be gauged from the fact that an army Major, a naval marine commando and two jawans also lost their lives in the operations, while nine others were also injured.
With over 30 encounters taking place in J&K in the last 45 days, army chief General Deepak Kapoor on Wednesday squarely blamed Pakistan for trying to push in as many terrorists as possible before the mountain passes get snowed under. “As winter is approaching, attempts are being made from the other side to push in as many infiltrators as possible,’’ said Gen Kapoor in Jaipur.
Pointing to the spike in ceasefire violations in recent days, Gen Kapoor also indicated that the Pakistan army was back to its old strategy of giving covering fire to militants sneaking across the LoC.
Asked about the heavy toll suffered by the security forces in the recent encounters, the army chief said his troops were trying to ensure there was no civilian “collateral damage’’. Major J S Suri and Naik Khushal Singh were killed when they stormed a house at Baniyar Ajus in Bandipora district, where two Hizbul commanders Pasha and Mussa were holed up, on Wednesday. Two other Majors, Gautam Raj Reshi and Kamlesh Kumar, NCO Mahipal Singh and Sepoy Naveen were also injured in the encounter.
Defence officials said troops of 13 Rashtriya Rifles, police and 45th battalion of CRPF had earlier cordoned the house of Rahit Mir, son of Ahad Mir, following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists there. But the terrorists, too, had been forewarned. They apparently took Major Suri hostage, while Khushal Singh was killed in the initial firefight. But the terrorists later killed the Major, and continued to fire indiscriminately till mortar shells fired by the soldiers razed their shelter to the ground. In the earlier encounter on Tuesday, two terrorists and two military personnel— marine commando Chandrashekhar and gunner Diwakar—were killed in an encounter in Rafiabad forest in Baramulla district. )))

Salute to our Real Heros ...

kab tak assa hi hota rahe ga kab tak..........

It is nice to see that members are acknowledging the sacrifices of our soldiers....

But, this time we should take a pledge that whenever we met a soldier, whether in train or in your village or at any other place...... we should respect them and not think that they are good for nothing fellows (usually they get scorn while in transit)......

Manish, neither roj roj ki ladai nor Kargils are desired. The way we lost young officers and Jawans leading from front in Kargil it might be a record. Cost of the victory (Definitely it was a Victory) paid in Kargil was too heavy for a nation to pay.

I'm too immature to suggest a solution to Kashmir but the only thing which I know is it is only because of Indian Army that Kashmir is still on Indian Map. And as a soldier am proud to say that.

So many names I can count whom I was fortunate to be associsted with.......my coursemates/ colleagues......dost....bhai.

Lt Nawang Kapadia - laid his life within 20 days of being commissioned.

Capt Arvind Malik (Gohana) - 6 Feet lamba Jaat, was shot in thighs, died because of excessive bleeding.....his younger brother also wants to join army........

Maj Sajjan Singh Malik, (Pilani, a third generation Para Special Forces officer)- again lost his life due to excessive bleeding. Was fond of Churma.........barged into my house in MHOW (Indore) and forced my wife to make Churma with desi ghee....

Capt Lalit Prakash- a thorough gentleman, died because could not be evacuated in time. Left a three months daughter behind......was my overstudy in OTA.....

Maj YR Acharya- A Commando Instructer, laid his life, jumped inside the house from the roof top with his AK-47, killed many b******ds before he died.......left a son behind who's mentally challenged......

Lt Kuldeep Singh Rathi- 6 feet lamba smart bachha tha, was my junior in MDU, asked for notes for SSB and got through. Happily informed me about being selected and next year I came to know he is no more, again laid his life in Valley.

Till date I feel the pain when I remember that though small but I also played a role for him joining Fauj. Aaj Rohtak ke Maansarover Park mein bhai ki Murti lagi hai.......

Media and this thankless nation (That is what we are and I do not have any doubts in this) only shouts when they are directly hit. We lost an NSG officer in Mumbai operations and whole nation raised to salute him.

Where is the media now? Every second day we have our soldiers getting killed in Valley.. This news which I've shared was on 13 or 14th page in TOI. It is only when the elite in Taj is killed, the media wakes up and says our forces are great....people gather and lit candles. Who'll lit candles for Nawang, Arvind, Sajjan or Kuldeep??????????????

Dukh to bahut hota hai bhai.....when we see the Generals of our Army sitting on a dharna on India Gate....it speaks volumes about the thankless nation, a shameless & pampered beaurocracy and selfish politicians.......

These are ill affects of capitalist economy..Media sells those stories where they can add some ads in between. If they'll give 1 hr program on Arivind or Sajjan.. there will not be great TRP..
Everybody means business be its a print or electronic media.. I know its sad to loose friends/colleagues.. Its very shocking that we lost many of these great warriors in lack of timely medical care... I think army may need to improve their counter insurgency tactics..

Again NSG is also a part of army so at least some people are getting recognition but question is why other are left out... It may lead to a dangerous situation of degrading Nationalism in defense institutions.

Exactly.....these martyrs n so many have been ignored by media n our country...dats a very shameful thing for a nation. But why put balme just to politicians, even we cilvilians remember them for how much time? Soilders sacrificed their lives for country n this country gives them nothing not even HONOUR the thing they deserve the most.:(
We celebrate three national holidays and have holidays celebrating most religions to advertise our secular credentials, but why on earth don't we, a country that has lost so many in Wars and a country that still loses far too many every year fighting the fires lit by the politics of inequity, why don't we celebrate our soldiers? I'm sure the average Indian soldier will bristle at the thought of having a dry day declared in their honour But as people take advantage of the long weekend .......dats the irony!!:(

Capt. Kalkal .. thank you very much for your service.
As far as the media is concerned ... they are a bunch of retarded, gutless, spineless, coward worms.
Politicians ... especially our PM MMS is a spineless ba**ard whose only concern is serving the family. All of them are traitors.

Capt Kalkal
I empathize with your sentiment having said that, In My Humble Opinion I hold Government of India responsible for their death, In my mind GOI stand accused of culpable homicide and the reason for this is our injured officers and jawans who are in harms way must be evacuated in shortest amount of time, for that IA need helo support. What does Idiot Manmohan singh--corrupt congress gov't and politicians are doing they keep throwing roadblocks into purchase of specialized Recovery and Evacuation helos, attack helos for combat support, lift helos for logistics.
Guess since their own son's and daughters are busy getting high on drugs and they are busy making sure they will always have enough money, only these poor (proud patriot) souls of Ahir, Jat, Rajput end up dying for this nation. I am not sure how many people in this nation realize it takes 3 years to train an officer to be combat ready to lead his men to close and shut the open mouth of death that is ready to gobble men. It takes 2 years to train a jawan to be combat ready so he can defend this nation.

Capt Kalkal and other officers, Just to let you know, I was selected and had my orders to join OTA in Jan 1986. But I decided against serving these thankless, gutless and coward (would be) civilian masters. BTW I am 6' 2". Why should I get crippled or die for the nation whose inhabitants and leaders are thankless pueriles. I am so glad I made that choice, I am still doing my military service in a different nation, under different capacity.

Thank god, not everybody is of the 'same' opinion. and as a matter of FACT millions of INHABITANTS of this country are "proud of + thankful to" 'these' soldiers. :)

I am so glad I made that choice, I am still doing my military service in a different nation, under different capacity.

hmm.. interesting!! :)

There is a difference between pride and facing the truth. How many inhabitants of this nation joined their retired soldiers in their pension struggle. If they were Millions as you call them belivers than I am wrong in my judgement if they were not then you are wrong and I stand by my conviction. Once you move out of India and start looking at your motherland from outside perspective you will be wondering just like many of us, how the hell is this nation surviving and staying together. Story of India-surviving as a nation can make an aetheist, a believer in god.
How many field hospitals are equiped with life support system, how many doctors, nurses and support staff are in doda, rajouri, poonch, and chamb sector.
Read my other posts, read up on military matters, understand logistics, operations, safety and rescue, medevac etc.
People and nations who know their weakness, fix their weakness and then become stronger enjoy the fruits of prosperity, peace and tranquility. Others are just like India

Sir with due respect to all of you let me clarify that there definitely is an agony, a pain of my martyr brothers not being recognised by the nation & media but than given an opportunity I shall again join the Indian Army. And shall do that 100 times if I get a rebirth as human being.

When we join the forces we volunteer for the same and very well know what can happen to us. A soldier never fights for Glory, recognition in media or medals, we only do that as it is our duty to our motherland.

Most of the names mentioned in my previous post lost their lives as they could not be evacuated in time. But then kindly consider the terrain and weather also. Whatever measures could have been taken must have been initiated by the concerned leaders. I would not believe that a Commanding Officer or Brigade commander would leave his soldier to die in lack of medical attention. In many instances the choppers were ready with all the medical assistance but could not even take off coz of weather. Remember, Pakis are not the only enemy in Valley, weather is a bigger one.

And leave apart Manmohan Singh or Vajpayee, the only govt present deep in Valley is Indian Army.

But Yes, as a nation we need to be more concerned about our forces. 10 saal mein ek baar India Gate par candle jalane se kuch nahin hota.....

"Quartered in snow, silent to remain. When the bugle calls, they shall rise and march again"

This is what soldiering is all about.

Karan Sir,

Without doubting on your capablity, I am wondering and curious to know that wether serving with some other country's defence would give you immortal cover? I doubt though. Morever, there soldiers won't die? or there defense is not under president's orders? or President there is destined to make uncoward, gutful, thankful decisions?

Just Curious.
