Sid and Raj, I have learnt from 'vishwastr sootr's that madame prima-donna Mayawati didn't like the idea floated here about the stamping of any royal behinds!
(She was more agreeable to giving away to each voter a miniature stattuete of hers, as an incentive to come vote...) ;)

Also She did say this though... (see attached)

Hey I like the twin earlobe/ cartilage piercing! :)

Dear Members,
Kindly look at the link below. Ms. Mayawati’s ambition to become the Prime Minister is well known. The problem is that she is propogating it on Dalit Card to garner the votes. My question to her would be: “If it is only Dalit’s daughter can help the country, then we have no problem, we have millions of them and some of them probably more qualified then Ms. Mayawati herself. Further since she claims to be doing a good job at Uttar Pradesh, then why shift her from state to center. If Dalit’s daughter is the only solution, to help the country, then let us have two or even more of them. We can definitely find one in each state to help the nation, and one off course for the center. I am sure there might be Dalit’s daughters in every political party. Unfortunately, Dalit's daughter has not done any thing spectacular in a state, how could she claim that she can do it better at Center.
I am amazed that no political leader has commented on her statement.

Col. Chacha:

I don't believe I've ever come across any Indian politician giving a well
reasoned explanation as to why he/she should be the PM. Have you?

Mayawati in this case is speaking to the audience in the manner best
suited to get the response she seeks. Last thing she needs to do is to speak
"angrezi" to a desi crowd.

I think the fact that no political leader may has commented on her statement
is probably becuase they realize that it would just end up further playing
into her hands...and actually create an issue out of a non issue.

Accepetance and Conviction

Dear Mr. Raj Rathee,

I agree with you what you say. The question I am raising here is about the breed of politicians that we have. No one has the courage of his/her conviction to rebute or support her claim. Either way, non commenting means acceptance of the proposal.

Or the politicians consider that it is too trivial an issue. Playing Dalit Card to get to the PM. We are a divided nation, and our politicians are further dividing us.

There was a political party floated after the movie "Rang De Basanti", where is that political party today?

It was very interesting to hear when someone commented to me about India and Iquote: "I don't understand India, there were millions of Indians / Hindus, when a handful of muslims came from middle east and ruled them for centuries. Then came a handful of British traders and ruled them for two centuries. What is it that a few people come from across the border and rule them" unquote.

We might not like the above statement, but that is the truth. Considering current sitution in the country, I don't think we even learned the lessons from the History.

On this forum itself, we can see unflinching loyalty towards the politicians. If you ask for the stand that these politicians have taken to build the nation, more often than not we draw a blank. We really need to sitdown and think about our political system. We need to have wisdom to analyze as to what needs to change and we need to have the courange to change that.

The way I look at it Col. Chacha is that a politician's primary job is to get
elected and be in power. Everything else is really secondary. So one
way to look at this would be that the politicians made a judgement that
not responding would be to their best advantage. I wouldn't necessarily agree that they are accepting the proposal.

At the same time, of course, I would say that many of us spectators
can readily think of plenty of ways to leverage such statements to our
advantage were we in that game. In particular I recall thinking various ways
Tikait could have better dealt with the situation arising out of his
use of "Chamari", and used the incident and followup Mayawati actions to his advantage.

But we aren't the ones playing the game.

I do agree with your statement that too many of us seem to be pretty irrational in our support for various politicians. I think that is a fact.
Probably a universal one. I think most of us respond at a gut level.
And that applies to even the very educated folks. But this only
further goes to provide support to why politicians spend more time in making popular statements ("mein dalit ke beti") vs more reasoned issue based
ones. These folks know exactly what drives the voters.

We are an image of our true capabilities.

In other words we are just as successful in our life as our personal capabilities permit us.

Even though I am not a fan of Mayawati, I admire her for what she has achieved in her life. I am sure there are millions out ther who would be happy achieving a fraction of what Mayawati has achieved in her life.

If Mayawati will be the next PM, it will be because she has it in her what it takes to be a PM. If Manmohan Singh or Advani are unable to become the next PM, it will be because they do not have it in them what it takes to be a PM.

Whether Maywati will be a good PM is a totally different question? In my opinion, she will not be a good leader. Just by judging her performance and politics in UP, I would never vote for her.

Thus the point is that whether Maywati will be the next PM has nothing to do with her potential performance as a PM.

...and made it a point after casting vote herself to show so that folks get it right... Da(li)ts the way! ;)
