( Just posted because Sumit might not get back to the thread soon, i am aware of his busy schedule! )( Not a post on his behalf but just because i know him well enough to comment)

Being very close to Sumit Dalal and knowing him as a person , i guess Brahm came close to describing his mindset. With due regards to everyone who has posted here. I guess it is a very good effort by all to handle the situation from all viewpoints!

Sumit is one guy with lots of energy and a very strong passion for his people , his culture , his language ofcourse.
So the reason why it ( the behaviour of the security guy) did not do well with him was that he felt bad that the guy did appreciate everything when he had to use some English and sophisticated stuff( though personally i believe sumit should have done that in the first place).
His only concern is that why just using the language is percieved as something suspicious?

We can learn more about it when Sumit comes back with a post.

Regards,
Anil

You can not draw inference of community’s behavior from an isolated incident. If you look back at the incident you described above then it was almost compulsive for that security guard to check you guys thoroughly which otherwise is also his discretion.
  • You were there in a group
  • All of you were speaking the same language
  • The body language at that time might have prompted the security guard to go ahead with the search
  • The tone of the language also matters
  • One of you might have initially resisted for the formal search.
Gulia Sahab ,
I think u have got the wrong idea from my post or u didnt read it nicely.
I said we only objected wen that guy asked us to show our wallets which he only asked to us in a queue of around 80-90 people(housefull, staurday night, new release 'sarkar raj').If our language made them think that and act in a different manner as compared to other public than this is something wrong.Vikaspuri is an area with sardar majority and obviously they too come their in groups and speak their common langauage i.e. punjabi.........but they never get this special treatment.

I expect everybody to understand and discuss the problem which i m trying to highlight.Coming up with 'MIGHT BES' will further be a demotivating factor for such issues related to jats.

Sumit Dalal.

The above points are correctly stated, it might have been that he found something strange amongst you and we shouldnt feel offended just because he did his job and scanned us. Instead of complaining, we should be thankful that atleast for once Delhi Police did their job and all thanks to you, u made Delhi Police work:p

However on a serious note, we see a lot of movies coming now a days hitting radical islam, all movies say that muslims in India are targetted just because they are muslims and a few muslims are terrorists, see Aamir[\b] to get a sense of what am speaking but how many of us actually agree of that? Isn't it just a thought that has been prevailed in society that muslims are made victims because all terrorists are muslims. Hence, please do not circulate this thought that all uneducated are not jats but all jats are uneducated

Also, look at the basic reason as to why Jats are looked upon in this manner? It is just because general perception is such and it is rightly so. How many Jat leaders do you see speaking haryanavi? Did any Jat CM of Haryana/UP/Rajasthan spoke in his dialect at state or national platform? Is there any written material that students are exposed to in our own states of this dialect? I have a lot such questions but wouldn't wish to share them because i am sure answers would be few

Sumit, neither did your face read you 5 were Jats and nor does only jats speak haryanavi in north India, hence making this issue limited to ourselves would be completely wrong.

Hi Vikas,

Bhai, you too starting ur reply with ''might have been''..............i can sense the detective in u..........lol

Yup, i agree with you that security officer did his job.But i fail to understand that his job was to sideline and check wallets of a group of boys out of a gathering of around 80-90 people that too just because they were speaking in haryanvi.Job well done.

Your second concern is a bit close to my intentions with which i started this thread when u wrote abt the irresponibility of the jat leaders.I too believe that successful jats are not taking initiatives to take the communtiy along with them(exceptions are always there).

Another thing in which my opinion differs from urs.I too agree that its not only jats who speak haryanvi in north India. But bhai, speak haryanvi anywhere in north India, you will be followed by a question ''ARE YOU A JAT?''

Sumit Dalal

Bhaisaab ram ram,

I will reply to ur post in the morning.Too tired and its too late.Hope u understand.

Regards,
Sumit Dalal.

Ram ram ji,

First of all ,i want to thank all the respected members for their interest and initiative in replying in the thread. But, i believe we are moving away from the issue on which i intended to discuss.

I didnt expect typical CBI investigating officer's reply with lots of 'MAY BE' in it.The issue is not to solve the case on circumstancial evidences.Simple threads can never be sufficient to find out the reasons by cross questioning circumstancial evidences. Also, there is no utility in that.

Let me come to the direct points on which i wanted to have a discussion, because i believe some people have not got to the right intention with which the thread is started.

1)Even when our people are leading in all spheres........why some words in jaatu language are enough for people of other communities to take us as backward?

Here i want to add another problem which is there with the jat youth of the villages.I am not talikng about u people who are techno enough to come to jatland.com .A simple jat boy who has done his schooling from a village school and graduation from local govt. college feels out of place as soon as he enters Delhi's border. Why our boys have that insecurity ?What is this fear? This is an inferiority comlex.

And if that day , instead of us some other village jat youth would have been there, the incident would have added to their inferiority comlex and fear.

2)Achievers from our community are not willing to give back.

I will start with an example to make my point clear.I might be the biggest fan of SEHWAG where his batting is concerned ,but what about his responsibility towards the community.I still remember Sehwag's post match jat style english used to make us so proud that he is one of us.But can u believe, this sportstar has not visited his native village (chudani, near jhajjar) for many years , forget about doing something for the community.I hope u people have got my point.

3)Achievers who can be ideals for the youth of their village, their children dont even know the name of their native village.

I have a jat friend whose dad is a senior IPS officer.Do u believe that this girl dont even know the name of their native village.Shall i say something further?Achievers of our community who can be role models are moving away from the roots.

4)We lack strong jat leaders.

I request people not to start a debate on this issue. This is a fact and it will be good if we accept it and work out something..The leaders from Haryana, UP and rajasthan(main jat belt) who represent us in Indian politics are not strong.I will not take the names, but their politics is all on fate......they are leaders not because they have done some struggle for the community or for the masses. They are leaders because they have some backings from the top ones in delhi.Neither they have done anyhting for the jats in the past nor they are planning to do.

Believe me respected members these problems are there. So i request all to to discuss and come out with some solutions rather than giving exceptional examples of some good concerned jats.

Regards,
Sumit Dalal.

Nothing wrong happened

Hi Sumit,

I have only a few words to say. And please dont get me wrong. I am just trying to answer you

1. Why did u guys object to show ur wallet even if he didn ask rest 40 members ? It is his responsibility to take care of the premises. If something wrong happens, he will be the first to be caught. So, if he feels some guys are decent and left without security check and asked u guys. There is nothing wrong in that because he suspected something and that is his responsibility.

2. Its gud to discuss such issues but if u really want an anwer then rather than believing on others guesses(that what guard thought abt u guys) u shud have asked there itself(or later or even now, if u r so confused) ki bhai saahb/kaka, what made u think abt us like that. What made u to check our wallets ? He only can tell u the real reason. May be u r mistaking him.

And mere pyaare dost burra nahi maan na par wanna say something here. Ki jab 4-5 Jat ladke mil jaate hai aur movie wagarah ke liye jaate hai toh unki harkate auro jaisi nahi hoti. Maine bahut log dekhe hai aise aur haan mein bhi unhi mein hoon. Hope aap samajh gaye honge. Shayad aapne poora bhakhaan nahi kiya incidence ka. Aap ke gestures, posture, body language, expressions aur talking style are lil different even u r well educated(school waali only) ... aisa meine kaaffi jagah notice kiya hai.
Agar mein uss guard ki jagah hota toh shayad mein bhi ye hi karta.

Talking about the incident.....it was only his duty performed by him

...now if we discuss about the typical language u guys talking about then frankly speaking its very rude and sounds like indecent...but it depends at what place u r using it....if somebody tries to be very informal at work place then i also call that person a nerd/idiotic n always try to avoid him/her...

second thing u expecting the change from others....very true to say that there has been a dearth of such great people nowadays...but what about the role that u urself can play instead of blaming/questioning others...

respecting our own culture/ religion is a true love that u can express to ur community and i really praise that...but on the same time u pointing others for ur dissatisfaction is of kind that u not willing to take hold the responsibility....

as u said u r a post graduate lawyer...let us see how much fame u get with your best and unbiased efforts in the field....i'm sorry to say but straight forwardedly speaking lawyers/police/politicians are the only people who are making a difference everywhere...obviously a negative one...and there are very rare who can be appreciated among all of them...i wish u also get included in this rare list...

though i cannot speak our haryanvi language, even sometimes unable to understand it completely but i love to see, listen and be with my own people...i also say that Jats(pls don't consider each n every person here) really need to change their attitude....but never like to give any thought for some other community people to spend my other half of life...kyunki jo apna hota hai usse accha koi nahin hota...i firmly believe in it....n that's why i don't like those who cannot give their best to their own people, rather than they move towards for their own satisfaction...anyway that's distracting the whole discussion...so better to stop it here only

i just wanna say that acceptance can only be possible if we also try to accept the little feelings/emotions or the other person....give and take rule applies here...which we normally forget or develop misconception that we already have done a lot...balance should not be the main factor to consider here...just keep on giving...so make a better stroke as u've got the chance to prove it.

Regards
Neelam

If haryanavi is such a rude language and does earn nothing for us then shud we destroy(obsolete) it ??? Just a question to see ppl's opinion. Don get me wrong here too coz ppl interprete things in complete diffierent and weird way.

though i cannot speak our haryanvi language, even sometimes unable to understand it completely but i love to see, listen and be with my own people... well ur location is Haryana below ur profile foto place. So, m really surprised that u cant speak and understand it well. What made u to love all that ??? I assume u never been much with ur own ppl thats why u r lil poor in haryanavi. well own ppl was another term which took my attention but no comments here.

u cannot call an ugly thing beautiful....same is the case with the language...the beauty of language lies in its words used by the people and also how it is carried by a particular person...so it depends on individual...i said it sounds like that n m not saying that a person tends to do it by heart...we Jats are very calm by nature...gusse mein to sab alag dikhte hain, chahe koi bhi community ho...but calmness resides in our heart...this is what i mean...and i don't say that we must be sorrounded by all the best things everywhere...ugly n beauty are the parts of nature...u cannot deny from your looks, behaviour...rest it depends if u r stubborn...so here i didn't mean anything that could bring u at the opinion of making something 'OBSOLETE'

very simple my dear...my own people i always refer to is 'our community'...

and ya i'm very poor in haryanvi but that doesn't mean that i'll not love it, will not feel its essence, etc.etc...coming at the major point for this difference...i was and m still in touch with our native place and the people there...reason behind that was only that we got education in Christian school and parents, even grandparents didn't wanted to get it mixed/complicated to provide us the best environment for education...but now they don't have any problem if we try to speak it...n that's other case that we're not that intelligent to learn it within few hours...learning some language is also a difficult task in itself but only if one carries it beautifully...and i don't like to show any disrespect for it...galat bolein isse accha bina bole rah jaao, ye jyada behtar hai...maine bahaut logon ko iska majak banate dekha hai which i really don't like at all...the best example for it can be seen on the SAB channel (i don't know the name of the programme exactly)...but the way our haryanvi is used by those artists is pathetic...

and the point which is not clear to u is just to ask Lawyer Dalal to take his profession in the true spirits with full dignity...usually the people from these mentioned professions have a bad image...and first a person must himself/herself become a good example for others, then only he/she can expect the same from others instead of keeping them always under prosecution...kyunki abhi tak maine jatland par sabko sirf politics ko hi highlight karte dekha hai...jab politics par ungli uthi hai to why not at other parts who all are involved with those politicians...rest i personally didn't mean anything wrong/disheartening for anybody

and the last thing about your quote....ur way of expressing the things is very nice and respectful....appreciable!!

Neelam ji ram ram,

The issue which i wanted to highlight and have even raised in my previous post........u have come up with exactly the same situation.Plz dont take me wrong ........ but i dont understand y ur parents and grandparents didnt want u to mix with ur native place to provide u best environment for education. This is the case everywhere , even in my own family one of my uncle never used to take his kids to his village and now his children has completely lost contact with their native village.

In this , i m very thankful to my papa that inspite of making me study in a convent school ,he always asked me and motivated me to spend my summer vacations in my village.I have even done LAMNI.

This is the point i wanted to raise.......Y people are running away from there roots ?People might not agree with me but we will realise its consequences some 10-15 yrs from now.

neelam.I am little curious to know why ur parents did not want to mix your language.please do not take me wrong but were they ashamed of hryanvi speaking kids or what. I feel so proud whenever my son uses words of haryanvi here and there in between his english cum hryanvi conversastion.I hope and ask you not to do that to your own kids .please do marry a teth jaat kyunki tumhaari agar khud ki hryanvi hi kamzoor hai to .
i really feel sorry to see that if we do not respect our own language and heritage why would others will.
iam really sorry neelam if i hurt you in any way.

Dear Sumit and Ritu Di,

U mistaken my words somewhere...or may be i was not good to explain it better....i never said that we're or are not in touch with our native place....we too desperately looked for our summer/winter vacations to visit our grandpa n grandma in village...and very obvious all the other lovely people there....only after growing up our no. of visits got decreased as our (siblings) holidays were mismatched....recently also i visited there with my family...just few days back....anyway lot more to say about it but in short i'll only say that we all are still in touch with our native place as we also have our own home, property n relations there.

about our language development, i also don't know the exact reason behind that but as much as i had observed....my grandpa had a different living style/pattern even at village after getting retired from british army....but i have seen them conversating with people in haryanvi....aur fir dadaji to sarpanch bhi rahe the to gaon mein to sabse haryanvi hi bolte the....even at childhood all my grandpa's friends use to conversate with us either in hindi or sometimes try to use a little english as they all were from army group....to ghar mein jis language ka use hota hai bacche bhi wahi saeekhte hain....aur haan pls keep away the misconception about our parents feeling ashamed while speaking haryanvi....from the very first time when i learnt to understand the words, i had seen them conversating in haryanvi but except with their own children.

and its very true fact that if u make the child learn haryanvi as his first language he/she will get use to and will find difficult to learn other language with that ease as in the case of 1st language....n i also told earlier that language learning is a difficult task....my little sis can conversate very nicely in haryanvi....but among all, i'm the worst to deal with it (may be m not that intelligent to grasp those words easily)...n i also don't praise this, 'coz i feel that atleast we must know a little, if not so perfect....n sometimes even we complain to our parents for not allowing us to learn this language at the earlier stage....but after coming in contact with many others we've seen that they all (jat friends) have attained higher degrees but they are still not comfortable to conversate in english....halanki aisi koi badi baat nahin hai lekin mujhe hairani hoti hai when i see my jat friends passed out from the same school are unable to conversate in english as much as i can (only 'coz their home environment was different)....n u all might have observed that i'm just using the simplest words everywhere and may be some mistakes u can find but i'm very much confident to present my self in any community....'coz english/hindi is the common language

aur haan rahi baat theth haryanvi match ki then ritu di, for sure he'll one who is well versed with this language....and i hope ki kam se kam wahan jaake to seekh jaaungi :D....aur haan ek sacchi baat aur....ki aajkal ki Jat families ne to abhi tak hume aisa feel nahin karwaya ki hume haryanvi nahin aati to bahaut badi cheez miss kar di humne....'coz all prefer to have an educated lady and that too who is comfortable with english...to ye baat bhi mere haath mein nahin hai....agar kisi ne mujhe haryanvi naa aane par accept nahin kiya to ye jaroor ek live example banega sabke liye and will provide a motivation to everyone to learn it sooner :D....filhaal to sirf ye motivation drive maine jatland par hi dekha hai.

also i don't get hurt when u all question me about it :)....but seriously speaking that sometimes i feel bad about it...lekin ab to mujhe mere cousins ne bhi sikhana chhod diya, kahin wo khud na bhool jaayen apni perfect/ bindaas haryanvi :(...so how can i help it dear
--------------------------------------------------------------------

conclusion: after good experiments the conclusion is drawn that m very very poor at grasping haryanvi language :(

solution: i need a specialist in haryanvi language development :D

After going through all the posts , finally it is nice to see people involved in an healthy exchange! :)

@ Sumit : the passion you show for the culture and language is your own undoing because there are few things that are reality and you got to live with them. Ofcourse no one stops you from changing them to better.:)

And the pain you have for things around you which are not ideal is something very few are going to appreciate.
:) So start living with this reality as well!

And i know the girl who does not know her native place :P LOL!:D

@ Neelam Ji : I would not be critical of you because your comments would have been correct 99% of times ( when you said that why not Sumit himself take responsibility and also of his may be future endeavours) , but thats where i hate generalising. The generalization process does not take into account "EXCEPTIONS" and Sumit ( for me ) is one! :) ( Ant that is not "boasting")

Meanwhile you will not find a better Haryanvi teacher than Sumit himself and i am sure he will be happy to help you!:)

we should be proud of our race and language first before others.if we all start speaking in our native languagae whenever we can then it will no longer be associated with rudeness .our language need to be associated with educated people and nice things.hat ja tau paache ne is a live example of that.people all over haryana like it not only jats even punjabis .because that song has nice beats.so what is need to be done is that we need to promote our own culture and respect our own langauage like other cultures do.
I have seen people taking it as a compliment whenever any body tells them.....aap to bilkul bhi jat nahi lagate aapni language se.I really feel sorry for those rootless people

we should be proud of our race and language first before others.if we all start speaking in our native languagae whenever we can then it will no longer be associated with rudeness .our language need to be associated with educated people and nice things.hat ja tau paache ne is a live example of that.people all over haryana like it not only jats even punjabis .because that song has nice beats.so what is need to be done is that we need to promote our own culture and respect our own langauage like other cultures do.
I have seen people taking it as a compliment whenever any body tells them.....aap to bilkul bhi jat nahi lagate aapni language se.I really feel sorry for those rootless people

well said Ritu ji.

well could not stop my self from putting down my thoughts ..I m sure u knew it that sooner or later I wud

This particular incident has reminded me of another one that happened with me ..

I was to appear for the scrrening test, more of a 1/1 interview, for Civil services classes. I had submitted my form and on the day of interview took my chachu along wid me .

Now,the teacher over there first was conversing in hindi and then shifted to english and I kept answering watever his question was.He was in for a shock when he came to know that I belong to a jat family , but we kept the conversation in english .

At the end of it he turned to my chachu and said, "I m surprised rather shock to know that being from a jat family she speaks so well and fluent english !!" My chachu was immensely happy. :) May be he could never get over it ..and once introduced to one of his frenz saying , u know she's a JAT n preapring for civil services n can speak in english that too fluent ....( I still dont get it why was he so surprised ???)
