Reservation versus Commonwealth Games

This reminds me of whenever i go to attend some function and find the first 1-2 rows marked as reserved. I look at the people who grace these first 1-2 rows. I have seen where car parking slots are marked VVIP. Reservation in India has become something like that. I have often attended political functions where all sorts of crap sits on dias. Reservation in India has become like this. Who started this and who is continuing with this? Can we blame our rural folks who feel discriminated in the name of reservation? Is reservation not akin to a shorter line for some previlaged people to reach the counter? This is causing lots of heartburn among many sections of society. Best will be to stop reservation in all walks of life. If that can not be done, why blame Jats or Gujjars? Present reservation system is nothing but discrimination. If some people are breaking que and government is supporting that, others can not remain silent for ever. I suppose this is what our fellow Jats are doing now. If government can not give equal facilities to their kids, what options they have? When peaceful methods don't work, what should they do? When all posts are filled through back door, what should they do? We have no moral right to ask them to remainpeaceful if peaceful methods don't work.

RK Ji, I have read last few posts of yours severally. Its soothing to find practicality in your words now on this matter. No matter what outcome will be of this movement but atleast now people will start questioning the Reservation process as a whole. What is its relevance today and why it should continue. And if it should continue then why not for ME?

Aapki pichali post mein bahut hi sachai hai jismein aapne kaha ki SDO 2 km chalne ke liye tyar nahi hai. Aur ek aam admi iska kuch nahi kar sakta. Jab tak wo peacefully attempt karega koe nahi sunega ... at last he has to go unlaw fully .... JAM laga do Roads ko, railway line ko ... tab UPAR WALE jagte hein ... aur kaam hota hai.

Aur jab present reservation system ka hi koe needy ko faeda nahi hai to Why to let them get it streched decade after decade ..... I feel reservation to be an atyachar. Either it should be removed as a whole or give it to me too.

http://in.jagran.yahoo.com/epaper/index.php?location=37&edition=2010-06-18&pageno=9

Sunil,

First of all, I was not doing a comprehensive analysis of any issue like you attempted, but merely listing the other important issues that Jat people have and should be raised by Jat parties, as Vipin had asked. Nevertheless, thanks for correcting me, the low sex ratio is technically the correct phrase to use as female infanticide is a cause, possibly one of a few.

I'd like to make the following points on your arguments:

1. Your argument that poor have more children than the rich seems correct from observation. But how do you apply that to Haryana? Would you divide this as more children for rural folks versus lesser for urban? If that's the case, then Haryana is only 28% urban. Then a vast majority should have more children. However, these days even rural folks are decreasing the number of children. So it is important to know who are the "poor" in your theory as Haryana doesn't have the poverty to the extent Bimaru states have.

2. What your friend told you was interesting, but was just one anecdote. So we can't derive from there that people don't see girl child as a burden. A boy may be a bigger burden in reality, but how many people think that ways. Personally, I have heard this for the first time. What is beyond debate is that there is an overwhelming desire for male child. Whether that is because of cultural factor X or economic factor Y or social factor Z, is arguable. But the fact is real. Now the question is how many people just desire a boy and how many can live with nothing but a boy. I have no expertise in this field. I don't know many female infanticide cases. But it may be a bit naive to dismiss it as "rare extreme". It can happen at a reasonably early stage of pregnancy and it can always be colored as a mishap. No one would advertise it obviously. So there can be quite a few reasons why we don't see or hear about this.

3. I had almost bought your theory on why the ratio is lower because of the steps you described, till I tested it. By the algorithm you described, one should have exactly same number of boys as girls. Let's divide your algorithm into cases where a couple decides to stop having kids as soon as they have a) 1 boy or 2 kids, b) 1 boy or 3 kids, c) 1 boy or 4 kids, d) 2 boys or 3 kids and e) 2 boys or 4 kids.

The case a) can be split into 3 sub cases with probabilities in bracket- 0 girl 1 boy (50%), 1 girl 1 boy (25%), 2 girl 0 boy (25%). Then you multiply no. of girls in each subcase to the probability of that subcase and sum it across all subcases. Ditto for boys. You get 0.75 for both boys and girls. That is if 1000 families followed this, then you should have got 750 boys and 750 girls.

The case a) can be split into 3 sub cases with probabilities in bracket- 0 girl 1 boy (50%), 1 girl 1 boy (25%), 2 girl 1 boy (12.5%), 3 girl 0 boy (12.5%). Same process as above. For 1000 families, you'd have 875 boys and 875 girls.

Same can be done for other cases.

One reason you may be seeing a different result is because you didn't have any 2 girl or 3 girl situations. If it is strictly algorithmic like above, you should have those situations. In fact, the 1 boy or 3 kids scenario has 12.5% "3 girls" scenarios by probability theory.

As you said, in the real world, you don't see many people with only 2 girls or 3 girls. If it was purely algorithmic (or upto fate/nature/god), you should have seen that. So what gives? That's why I think female infanticide be more of an issue than it seems on the s urface through our "knowledge" of such events.

Yeh Sex ratio bhi jabhi thek hoga jab jat economically, socially strong hongey aaj jaton par naukri nahi hai jab jaib mein aanna nahi hoga to larki ke janm ko abhishap hi manega, aur jab naukri hogi to woh apney baccho ki parvarish bhi acchi tarah karngee.. arrakshan kai samasyao ko door karga.abhi haal hi mein Baghpat mein UP police constable bharti mein kareeb 600 jat OBC quote mein bharti huey hai agar yeh berojagar hotey to kya yeh larki ko ek bhoj nahi mantey? yahi wajeh hai jabsey yadavo aur anye pichdi jation ko aarakshan mila hai unka sex ration theek hua hey.

A. I am against reservation. However, If others want, they can have and I don't think there is any harm if somebody will get it.

B. We have democratic process and we strongly believe in Khap Panchayat system. So, It's an healthy discussion to see other side of coin. We are just highlighting the other side of reservation.

c. Lets come on my village knowledge, I spent 22 years in my village. You don't even have iota of idea how to struggle and thrive when your family has 5 acre land.. and 5 siblings. Its a slow and painful process to stand out of crowd. Unfortunately you are begging for reservation rather than trying new ways to excel in life.
I am really wondering you have less than 10 posts on Jatland and how come you are passing judgements about my knowledge of village?

Jitender, I spend good amount of time in my village and have to deal with government officials quite often. They treat rural folks as we are the kids of lesser Gods. Very often I end up fighting with many of them and only then I am able to get my work done. For almost everything they create problems to extract money. Lately I consider myself more of a rural guy than the urbanite. Honestly, jab tak gaal pe thappad nahi lagta, koi bat nahi sunta..else keep paying bribes if one wants to be heard... I have quite a few incidences where officials demanded bribe from me as if it was their birth right. At the time of registry of land for hospital, they demanded extra 2% in cash. When I asked the reason, they simply told that this everyone has to pay. I resisted and gave them a long lecture. They could see the trouble in me and finally I got away without paying. Think of 2% over and above registry amount from every body. This money is shared by every body. Then same sort of problem I had when I went to get electricity connection for the hospital. I fought back and managed to get the electricity connection. Most of the rural folks can not face the collective robery of government officials. Guys sitting in urban India don't know all this. Even if they know, they don't feel the need to do anything. Politicians know this but look other way. Most of the local government officials pay visit to local politicians almost every day. I see no way of breaking these nexeses without force and collective actions. At individual levels whenever some of us raise the problems to politicians, they simply pretend to be deaf. In my view rural movements are good and will help in strenthening democracy in India. I don't care even if some inconvenience is caused to these urbanites. Let urbanites understand what ails rural India. I can tell with full conviction that 80% of kids even from places like Shamli have not been to a village next to Shamli and have no clue of the living conditions of rural folks.

...Khalkhundeji, give them the direct hotline to the Naxals!... (Last heard those folks were going pretty successful with all their 'non-peaceful' endeavors....) :p

Helloooooo, Boss calling on RED-HOT line...... LOL..... I am sure Naxals will be very happy to start their academy.

Yes u r 100% right here. This has happened to me in past on a few occasions. When i opposed bribe to an SHO he even tried to insult me. Then that SHO nd me had heated argument. Even though it was my right he refused to do it without money. Same is the case with these tasildars, passport office, patvaris and all other Govt (Idiot) officials. For a common man passport office close sharp at 5, even before that actually. But for those who can afford bribe(or want to pay bribe) it actually open after 5 and u can get anything done in a few hours.

And the way they talk to villagers i feel like slapping them hard.

Also like u i also want Govt to scrap this caste based reservation but i know it wont happen till next 30 years at least(though i have a feeling it will take another century to go) so I fully support Jat reservation till then.

Inki pairvi kar rahe ho jo azadi ke 63 saal baad jag rahe hain aur ab bhi 85 paise ki hi bat kar rahe hain?

Some of the proverbs concerning the Jats are as follows:
“Jat mara tab janiye jab tera din ho jaye” ( It means as per Crooke [18] or Ref. [12] “Never be sure a Jat is dead till the thirteen days of mourning for him are over”)
“Jangal ma Jat na Chheriye, hattii bich Kirar, Bhukha Turk na Chheriye,ho jaye ji ka jhar” (It means as per Crooke [18] or Ref.[12] “Meddle not with the Jat in the wilds, or the Kirar (shopkeeper) at his mart, nor a hungry Turk; if you do so you will risk your life”)
The Jat stood on his own corn heap and called out to the King’s elephant-drivers “Hi there, what will you take for those little donkeys?” (Sir Risley [19] page 132)
“If he (Jat) runs amuck it takes God to hold him” (Sir Risley [19] page 132)
“Kabit sohe Bhat ko, kheti sohe Jat Ko” (It means as per Crooke [18] or Ref. [12] “Songs, suit a Bhat (traditional Poet), and husbandry a Jat”)
“Sat jindki bahin, Dhillon Kadh Kosatti whin” (It means as per Rose [20] a Dhillon (Jat) will always perform what he has promised)

Change before you have to... I read this management jargon many times.. We came to the situation of "Have To". Now, we are changing because situations around us has changed. We are take decisions and we don't know whether they are right or wrong..

Forward thinking is the only way to improve this situation. We have to understand that India is moving towards capitalist society. There will be fewer govt. jobs in future and Capitalist won't allow reservation in pvt. sector because they have plenty of options to move service sector to China or Africa.

As I said many times before, Reservation may improve things but it must not be the first priority. We don't have any 5 year or 10 year plan to improve the employability of our jat brother and sisters who are living in villages.

Coming back to topic, I hope all protests related to reservation will be free from any tragic incident.

Yudhvir, I am not sure of this. I see capitalism getting diluted world over now. After the fall of Lehman brs and hosts of other banks, people even in USA and Europe are loosing faith in free for all type of Capitalism. I see a mix of Capitalism and Socialism taking shape. Call it a sort of PUblic Private Partnership from now on. It hardly matters which system comes. Nothing will succced without people;s support and participation. One way of finishing all reservations in India is to let everyone ask for it. System of reservations will be su burdened that government will have to dismentle it. I take Reservation demands that way. I am sure that Jats will do well if governments get out of everything.

Piyush, first of all let me put myself on record that I am not against reservation. But if we jats think that it is a sanjeevni buti that will lift up the jats than I think we are just talking here like netas, jo baatein bahut karte hai par result zero hota hai. Reservation is also going to help only those who want to help themselves, and that percentage is very less. You would see majority of jat boys in villages get stuck at Matriculate level, they never pass the 10th exams. Gaon mei koi dasavi paas kar le to ghar wale bahut khush ho, nyu kehnge ki mhara ladka dasavi paas ho gaya. No one even talks about marks and rank. You can count on fingers the jat boys who are good at studies in villages. IS reservation ka fayada sirf cities mei rehne wale jats ko hoga par jinhe iski really mei jaroorat hai unke upar koi khaas farak nahi padne wala kyunki cities mei rehne wale jats or villages mei rehne wale jats ke education level mei raat din ka farak hai. Only valid point that comes in support of reservation is that if everybody will get reservation, It'll be abolished from our system. I agree completely with you that majority of people who are going to get benefit are people living in HUDA sectors. There will be one more divide in society.. Urban Jat Vs Rural Jat.

Yup i agree Mor Sahab that India is becoming capitalist society & our thrust must be on EDucation.....But Industry need educated people..I feel reservation will help our brothers to get admissions into professional courses....

We must create more awareness about education within our society & simulatenously fight for reservation!!!!

VP sir,There is no doubt that we all are proud Indians first. Also i agree fully with you & rest of fellow members that successful CWG is vital for us...We should not think too much abt bringing bad name to the community , no one appreciates us when we do good deeds.....You know very well about media how they report...as evident in other threads .

Movement should be peaceful , i fully support our brothers to gherao Parliament , bringing Delhi to standstill by cutting water , bijli or any other way. Then Only the central govt will listen.I stay at Delhi...Ye politicians kisi ke nahi hoote, abhi yaadi enka boycott kar bhi denge toh ye election ke time kuch na kuch naya mamla le aayenge dyan divert karne ke liye & elections are still far away...Anyway barricading & gherao of all concerned MP & MLA's is one of the good options..

Cost element is always present to achieve something.

Hemant, I respect your sentiments. I also agree that thousands of Jat boys and girls are being deprived of their fundamental right of employment because of the reservation benefit given to some other sections of society. But the approach to realize the goal is not correct. Disruption to public utilities leads to suffering to common men only. Politicians are not substantially affected by such disruptions as they have alternative options for all utilities. This kind of activities will only bring bad name to the community. We are forgetting that apart from being Jats we are Indians too. Any impediment to Commonwealth game will reflect badly on our nation's image and will be detrimental to any future stake for such events which are very useful for the country. Not only such mega-events generate lot of revenue in hard currency, country's stature is also elevated in the global arena.

As Yudhvir has rightly observed, during 1991 agitation, parts of Haryana suffered irreperable loss. Bus Depot of Haryana Roadways in Sonepat was set ablaze and the entire fleet of buses was consigned to flames. What was the net result - many casualties, colossal loss to govt. exchequer, suffering to poor commuters. The same is going to happen again if we resort to such kind of violent methods. Election is the appropriate time and platform. Unfortunately, during elections we forget the common agenda and decide to vote according to our personal agenda. Moreover, the reservation will be decided by the elected representatives and not the common man in Delhi who is being made to suffer. Why doen't the leadership ask the Jat Politicians in power to spearhead the compagin and pressurise the government to do the needful. If the MP/MLAs concerned are not responsive, action may be taken against them by barricading their houses or blocking their movement etc. etc.

Question to JAT RLD(Rashtriye Lok Dal)

AJIT SINGH LAUNCH RLD JAT AARAKSHAN SANGARSH SAMITI:p
Ques 1: when BJP, Samajwadi party, BSP, BKU supported JAT OBC demand by AKHIL BHARTIYE JAT AARAKSHAN SANGARSH SAMITI(ABJASS). Which is a long pending demand and ABJASS already working and doing strugle than why JAT Leader Ajit Singh S/O late Charan singh doing this?
Ques 2: Now Onwards will RLD work only for JATS, not for other caste?
Ques 3: What will be for "harit pradesh" and farmers issues? will RLD work only for JAT Harit pradesh or JAT farmer issues? what about other caste?
Ques 4: Why Ajit singh kept mum since last 17 years? was it not a genuine demand?

NOW JAT Community relized it that this is the only reason why JAT did;nt get OBC status in central govt since last 17 years(Mandal Commision).

AMAR UJALA, 18 JUNE, GHAZIABAD

We shouldn't support the useless things, introduced by the Britishers and Commonwealth is one of them as far as I think. We shoudn't support all those things which malign India's image as a sovereign country. Britishers seem still living in those sweet colonial days and Commonwealth is just an attempt to keep those memories alive. Till some years back when English cricket team toured India, they also toured Pakistan and Sri Lanka to make the people of sub-continent realize that they (Britishers) are visiting their colonies. What a rubbish. After a strong protest from BCCI and PCB, that drama stopped. But almost same drama is going on through these Commonwealth games. If there are already Asian games, Asian championships, World championships, Olympics, then what the hell these Commonwealth games mean?

Uppu bhai teri bat thik s. I also hate india participating in these Commonwealth games and being part of this c@@@wealth. But bhai most of people also take pride in it.

Still i am not in favour of disrupting these games either. I know Our other jat brothers will also not do this.

End of the day city jats will be the winners.

kasuta gyaan n tod raakhya s , kah to tere paav pakad lyu ;)
