I know most of you must have seen various ads n clips of PETA for stopping unethical treatment to animals..I am not sure how many folks here (especially Non-veg) give a damn to such things but I am hoping that by seeing the below mentioned video, atleast few of us will do something to stop such gross inhumane treatment of animals and spread this to as many people as we can.

I didn't have the courage to view the whole video. This was filmed at a Chinese fur farm. Here are the excerpts of the video :
------------------------------------------------------
With a hidden camera, animals were filmed being SKINNED ALIVE!!! They say it's done to get a more perfect ''cut'', afterwards the carcasses are tossed into a pile, still alive, and
for up to 10 minutes you can see their hearts still beating, in agony, their eyes still blinking, and the puppies little paws still shaking.

There was one pup that still lifted his head and gazed at the camera with bloodied eyes.

There is no need to see the video, but if you must, be aware, it's horrible. The following video is of excruciating violence. It's painful silence affects us all deeply. If we don't protect animals from this type of brutality, we become accomplices

one of the most gruesome videos i've ever seen. tks prashant for bringing this up. these chinese can eat anything on earth that flies or crawls... disgusting... pathetic.

i've never ever purchased any fur clothing in my life. this video gives me enough good reasons to make a vow tht i'll n'vr ever think of doing that in near future, as well. in fact, i'll use this link to circulate this through email to all, in my circle. i guess if we all do that, the word will reach a lot of people in this world. on my part, this is the best i can do.

I have never been a PETA fan because of some of their extremist views and activities. But, I get the point they are trying to make here.

I have always believed that Civilization and Humanity move hand in hand. Chinese can make humongous Cities lined with skyscrapers but, they will never be civilized as long as they dont adhere to most basic level of decency when it comes to treating those they control. And by that I mean bot man and beast.

Human rights are just as damned in China as are the animal rights.

Further speaking, it does not matter if its China or any other country. Such horrific treatment of animals should not be tolerated.

.

I second with Sumit's view point 'bout China.
And indeed the video is one of the most shocking n' gruesome .. I've ever seen. :(

Agar sari duniya vergetarian ban gaye to bhukhi mar jayegi, hamare pass iitna agricultrural productin nahi hai ki sari duniya ko vegetrain food khila sake,
aur waise bhi ek india ke alwa world mai kisi religion mai vegetrian ka concept nahi hai, and ho bhi nahi sakta , kyuki in many countries saal bhar ice hoti hai , ya waha khabhi barish nahi hoti , waha koi kheti nahi ho sakti, so non veg is the only option there

Exactly deeps!!...... Plenty of NRIs fall in this category as well.

A line needs to be drawn between cruel and compassionate slaughter of animals. You dont have to torture an animal to death in order to consume it. An animal's suffering can be minimized or maximized when preparing it for consumption.

Ofcourse there is no such thing as zero suffering that an animal will have to undergo when it is being prepared for consumption. But that factor can definitely be brought close to zero.

Animal products have been a part of Western diet much longer than they have had certain basic standards of decency when it comes to treatment of other beings. That's while Western people prefer to consume animal products that are produced in strict adherence to the standards of basic decency.

On the contrary if vegetarianism prevails then statistically no one would ever sleep hungry. Of the total deforestation done in the past decade, rather 5 decades, 70% is done for agriculture and from this available agricultural land, more than 50% is used for animal fodder-> which produces meat. 50% trade of grains done around the world is for animal needs. The point is, we cut forest to produce meat and by the concept of food chain, just 10% of the actual actual energy is converted into food.

100 Lts of water is required to produce 1 Kg of potatoes, 4000 Lts for one Kg of Rice and 13000 Lts for 1 Kg of beef. Just another perspective of looking at usage of resources in producing meat, not to mention the oil and other resources used in the whole process.

I am not vegetarian myself, my intention is to clear the misconceptions that people have.

why not poison an animal n then consume it right away.. all in the name of 'compassionate slaughter'.. 'sympathetic consumption'..

Please visit http://meat.org/

Its horrifying how they kill animals. However, In western world their are well defined processes for butchering any animal. Mcdonald kills most of poultry bird by electric shock.

I think asians enjoy the brutality.

I have not visited other countries but in USA I have noticed that these people like beef and pork more than any other meat. Though I am not vegetarian but restriced myself only to seafood and chicken. Yudhvir ji, do u have any idea how cows and pigs are killed here? by electric shock or is there any other more "compassionate" way?

I said this in other thread and I will reiterate it here. Death is always painful it really doesnt matter how the animals are killed. Even if there is some process to kill them less painfully, then also we do like them to be killed. It is a moral crime against animals to nurture them for our luxury and for our taste. There is no place in the world where it is done in a better way, the only difference is that we have the videos to criticize these countries.

Prashant bhai, what do you think what can be the "compassionate" way?

Yodhvir bhai, does electric shock not count for brutality? Forget about brutality, the conditions they are kept in, are worse than the hell. Chickens are made to grow to twice their normal size in half the time. The result is that their bones and muscles are not fully developed and they can't take few steps with this added weight and have less than 1/2 sq feet of space to live in.

It is all about making more profit with less resources. Do we really need to see the videos to understand the human brutality against animals. From a week from now we will forget about such things and would be talking about sehwag or something more interesting.

How many people, who are participating in this thread, will refrain themselves from using the leather products?

If you consume any animal product other than dairy, chances are the animal had to suffer before it got your plate or on your body as clothing - leather jackets, wallets, shoes etc.

Here is a documentary about animal farming in America:

http://www.foodincmovie.com/

The difference is that in America this information about animal cruelty is a little bit easier to obtain and disperse to general public - although there is heavy opposition to filming their chicken farms and kill floors in their meat packaging factory from corporate animal farming lobby like Tyson foods etc as shown in the movie.
In America, the humaneness in animal farming is as much as efficiency in the factory will allow. It is not out of concern for animals - it is only meant to reduce the gross out factor for consumers (if videos get leaked) and comply with local health regulations (which they flout!).

I don't expect any concern from slaughterhouses in 3rd world countries because there are no regulations (or are not enforced in the slightest) and the press is not active on such issues.

India mein addmiyan ka slaughter kar de sein animal te door ki baat sei. Thousands of people die in our country everyday for no reason. I think around 200 pedestrians dies in 2008 trying to cross the toll road NH-8, I wish I had that link. Then there are riots every ten years or so, farmer suicides, Naxal, Pakistan also sends some bright young men to vent out their frustration every year. So, the problems are enormous.... keep it in perspective and stop this West Vs East mudslinging contest.

Whenever I eat chicken - especially at these dhaba, local market non-veg retaurants (which friends and neighbors claim is the best in the world !!), I have noticed that the leg piece does not look like chicken especially in butter chicken - I call it butter dog !
