Italy...

Hey Shail,

I fully agree that both teams played well and were strong. That is understandable given that they reached the semis....

I watched the whole match, each and every minute...and Italy had the posession for 58 % against 42 for Germany.

Italy earned 12 corners against germany's 4. From the word go, Italy was playing better.

There is no doubt that Italy has one the strongest defense and goalkeeper...you also know that till date they have not conceeded a single goal from any other team in this tourni...Now consider that Germans had the home advantage, also they have never lost in berlin ever...these things add up so much psychologically. Also Italy had the good knowledge of having never been defeated by Germany in any WC game.

I believe in 90 + minute games, also what counts a lot is not succumbing under exhaustion, both mental and physical and thats what showed in the end. Even before this, Germany had 2 lucky breaks even in the extra time, when the ball hit the post twice. And you must have seen that save from Italian goalie which had sheer talent and no luck attached to it.... This quality of still being strong even after 90 + minutes of high power and stress game and defeating the hosts in their own country and a place where they have never lost earlier says a lot.

Anyways no doubt germans are a strong bunch and lets hope to see great action in the remaining 2 games, irrespective of who wins and looses. Cheers to SOCCER!! :)

Nahee yaar Vivek, come on....it was not just pure luck for the Germans; tell me frankly- which team thrilled you throughout with their game in today's semi-finals normal time play of the 90 minutes??? (if you watched the whole thing, that is)....
But yes, to be very-very fair; Italy came out with full guns blazing in both the Over-time halfs! No doubt!!!...they pelted the German goal and it was pure luck for the Germans this time, like you say....to stay float; only for it to run out and to drown in the last three-four minutes!!!...

I hope too now that it is France-Italy! (though all my fav. are not officially out! Heh! Heh!)....go football!!!

I guess this time Portugal gonna get the Fifa cup!

rock on

Based on the shock outcomes, I wouldn't be surprised if they do!
Though I sure hope that they (Portugal) this time, do up their gamesmanship!!!..................

I can't wait to see how Zidane and Henry and party tackle this one today

....right! Well, although I wouldn't go too crazy looking at simply the statistics, [I for one have always been surprised after watching a closely faught game (or even a one sided one) only to see the stats say something entirely surprising (stats are always true, no doubt; but hardly reflect the actual flow of the game and as to which team was playing better football and more attacking of the two etc)]...

Anyways; moving on.................. I agree there is still some exciting Football left in the world cup to look forward to.....and I would actually say 3(!!!) games still remaining (don't forget that the one on Saturday for the third position should be a very good too!)

Since so far results had been shocking, I would cheer for Portgal for final... let people have some more surprises... I didn't like Italy in Italy vs Aussie game in past though they won... I didn't watch yesterday's game but am gonna watch today's... lets see

It's hot here...french are too excited to see Zidane in action. Soon they will be flocking to pubs and public viewing places. It's going to tough for portugal this evening...and for me too. If they win, I'll have a good night sleep which I didn't get after previous french matches(too much noise in streets)

France....

I think France will win today if the match is decided within the first 90 (or 120 mins if need be).

If it goes to Penalties, the Portugese will be the favorites.

In any case I hope the match will be close and well faught in the right spirit. :)

Cheers,

I hope its Portugal.

'Big Phil' Scolari is a Shrewd Customer. He has already led Brazil to World Cup Victory and now he has done a great Job with the Portugese.

French team has peaked at the right time as well.

I think it will be a great game to watch.

PS: The only Player of Indian Descent playing for French Team, Watch out for Vikash Dhosaroo. I hope he gets the chance to play and shine. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/player/181838_DHORASOO_Vikash.html

As Expected....

After the (quasi final) of brazil and france, the fate of this world cup looked sealed to me....

It is also a mark of great teams, to know when to peak and when to hold less tight...burning out and too much fatigue always causes, injuries and other mental wear and tear.

As for those who took my beloved argentina out by 'luck' :p ...well portugal will surely set them even more straight i am sure.....Portugal is no doubt much stronger right now than germany....

Today's game was not that gr8 for the French, but thats all they needed to do, put one in and wait...for Berlin....

They did it in style in 98 (I am sure brazil will always have day-mares about the french) and I hope they do it in style again this year.

Cheers,

Yeah, the mania definitely shall be missed!!! What a great spectacle!
The third place game (Yeah, Germany....were impeccable!) and the final was both good games!

That Zidane sent off and the infamous end to a glorious career would be talk for some time now!
The amazing thing is he still got the most valuable player (Golden ball) award! Not that I don’t like the guy, but what is FIFA thinking? Don’t they wanna send the right messages about the integrity of the game?

Anyways, it was a good attacking game by both sides, and as always….the Penalty kicks are heart-breaking on so many levels! Also, I personally thought the penalty kick (that Zidane converted with that amazing chip) was not a foul! But ah well, that is the game………….. Italy did a grand job of leveling it so soon afterwards!

Germany-Portugal was another good game, and I personally again got a lot of satisfaction with the way the Portuguese were completely shut out from the game!….. so much for Ronaldo’s diving antics!

As always; everyone loves controversies and scandals, so I am back here with what happened in the World Cup Football 2006 final yesterday, where the great captain of France was reduced to some kind of a back street brawler in front of the whole world!
(For those who missed the final and/or don't know what we are talking about....see the attached pictures)

All we have been left with are questions: Why did Zidane do it? Why did he ruin what could have been a fairytale farewell? Why did he forget the millions watching worldwide? Why did he put his reputation -- as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen -- at stake?

For an answer, so far, there have been just some unconfirmed whispers: That Materazzi (The Italian player in the pictures below) made a racial slur or something..... but no one knows yet! Either way, could anything that have been said make the action condonable? The fact that he reduced his national team to 10 men and then even more importantly; badly shorthanded in the crucial penalty kick shoot out.....would continue to haunt him for the rest of his life???

...and then to make things quite embarrassing for FIFA they also ended up giving him the golden football award as the most valuable player of the tournament!... While there would be some explaination to do on that hopefully in the days to come even the World Cup 2006 Organising Committee chief and football legend Franz Beckenbauer was of the opinion that something really offensive and bad must have been said to Zidane. "He is actually a reserved and inoffensive person," is what Beckenbauer is reported to have said of the black incident.

Before the World cup final French President Jacques Chirac said on Zidane, " A man who incarnated the most beautiful values of sport and the biggest human qualities you can imagine and was an honour to French sport and simply an honour to France."

I doubt after his vicious headbutt in final what would French Chirac would feel. That Shaven head had left bitter taste in French Fries.....

Full credit goes to Italia they scored 12 goals and 10 of them by individuals that shows all round ability of italians their defenders stand rock solid and found only 2 goals against them and they too were not field goals .

Feels pity for French team in particular Zidane who turns from Hero to Zero in
one night.

My favourite players in this world cup !!

Best striker --> Miroslav Klose from GER

Best young player -->Andriy Shevchenko from UKR

Best Defender --> Cannavaro and Thuram from ITA & FRA

Best Goal Keeper-->Gianluigi Buffon from ITA

Brutal match in world cup --> PORTUGAL verses Holland

High Tention match -->Germany verses Italy

Boring match in world cup -->Swiss verses French

Best Debut Team --> Socceroos

Flop Player of Tournament is too many --> Lampard, Rolandinho, Gerrad, Rooney, Beckham infact full British Team including their love making coach carries three girlfriends Sir Sven G Errikson the Great Romeo.

Last but not least Best Joker in this World Cup goes to Cristiano Ronaldo
Always try to get free kicks through his bogus falling style too much for this lad totally fedup by his freek style.

Finally ......

Its too much to digest ITALIA as FIFA WORLD CUP 2006 "CHAMPION".

No one believe here in JATLAND, everone supports first Brazil then Argentina then BRITISH then Germans and once the French reach final they go ga ga over Zinedine Zidane .

Am missing the football fever yaar... 2 weeks back it was so different... you won't believe, one day I actually had a dream that I was playing in world cup... dream to kuchh bhi ho sakta hai... Sometimes when you are too engrossed in something, like acads in final exams, you dream about that thing... I had broken my foot again last week while playing soccer without cleats, now its alright... (Joke goes like this: I have been to health center so many times regarding injuries that doc knows me well... he doesn't ask "what happened?" now he asks directly "Ok where this time?" ha ha ha...) . In undergrad I was so infamous, my teammates used to fear becuz they also used to get injuries... not only I used to play against opposing team but my team also to get ball from team mates... I had very bad habit of never passing the ball... and used to keep dribbling and making rounds and rounds and ending at same spot and then falling down exhausted and being happy of doing good excercise... I am horrible player, dont play good but I LOVE this game...

My childhood memory of soccer is this... my uncles used to bring lots of balls from their shops in Nepal and we used to play with them but my papa had strange notion, he made ball of clothes closed in string and used to make us play with that... we used to kick hard and it used to go not beyond few feet... it used to be "hard game" in that sense, his idea was that playing that way would make us better while playing with ball that is soft and goes far... ha ha ha... dear papa... and our ball used to get puncture everyday and every day we used to rush to "nai ki dukan" and get pump and put solution... bladdar had so many patches...

BTW Materazzi is very bad defender... see the google video
