You are right.... around 2000BC, people believe that Indus changed its course, there are proofs of atleast 3 floods in Indus civilization... so low level small villages got submerged and people came to big city of Harappan which was at high level but because of lack of crops it was hard to sustain... so they started spreading towards east in ganges plains or in west... so it was slow degradation of civilization opposed to what westerner believe sudden uprooting of Indus civilization... no one invaded.. there is no proof of any weapon being used... around 1900BC Sarawati also dried up producing present desert in Rajasthan... this natural disaster might have been main reason of decline of Indus civilization... it affected economy very much and trade with Persia et al slowed down, thats why we don't see much similarity between words in post-vedic literature in India and other Indo-european languages... new empire was founded on relics of old with rise of Guptas...

In fact there was an Aryan migration around 2000 BC when the Indus valley civillisation got uprooted because of incessasant drought over 2-3 centuries. Thats when most of the Indian wisdom went to the Arabia, Irqaq, Turkey and Europe. Of course spread of Islam had a contribution to the migration and concentration of scientific temper from Arabia to Europe. Because of the cruelties and inhuman behaviour of mohammed's armies, the scholars ran northwards with their books and knowledge. Thats how the dark continent of Europe became enlightened. At the same time India was going in reverse.

That is a mischievous Vaishnav position, which unfortunately, gets propogated in some circles, and acquires credence.

That mischevous position was created by the foreigners who were trying to decipher the Indian religious text with an aim to degrade Indian wisdom. They did not have proper knowledge of our history and culture. nor could they care to understand. Their aim was to rewrite it in a manner that Indians would feel lowly and subjugated.
People believe Max Muller to be a great scholar of Vedas. He did not know Samskrit ! He never set foot in India ! But translation of Vedas to English is attributed to him.

More of the intent behind degrading Indian civillisation and falsifying history can be read in

Aryan invasion theory and the ghost of Max muller by NS Rajaram

Coming back once again to the first post of this thread. More I think of Dahiya, more it leads me to the tracks which Jats must have followed during migration. Coming back once again to my logic of migration during wars and other natural calamities. This is my hypothesis on Dahiyas;

As we all know, during the great battle of Mahabharat, almost entire population of Hastinapur kingdom was polarised between Kaurav and Pandav. Each and every village, clan around Hastinapur was on one or the other side and contributed to the war. Each and every village around Hastinapur was seat of of power in some or the other way. Villages around Barnawa existed during Mahabharat period and had fairly well developed civilisation. There is very old village called Dah near Shoron and barnawa. In my view the people of Dah were called Dahiya. They took part in the war of Mahabharat in large numbers and came to Kurukshetra area. After the war was over, they settled at the skirts of battlefield in present day Haryana. Then later on some of them went towards west Asia and settled in present day Isreal and Palestine.
