You are right.... around 2000BC, people believe that Indus changed its course, there are proofs of atleast 3 floods in Indus civilization... so low level small villages got submerged and people came to big city of Harappan which was at high level but because of lack of crops it was hard to sustain... so they started spreading towards east in ganges plains or in west... so it was slow degradation of civilization opposed to what westerner believe sudden uprooting of Indus civilization... no one invaded.. there is no proof of any weapon being used... around 1900BC Sarawati also dried up producing present desert in Rajasthan... this natural disaster might have been main reason of decline of Indus civilization... it affected economy very much and trade with Persia et al slowed down, thats why we don't see much similarity between words in post-vedic literature in India and other Indo-european languages... new empire was founded on relics of old with rise of Guptas...

Thats when most of the Indian wisdom went to the Arabia, Irqaq, Turkey and Europe. Of course spread of Islam had a contribution to the migration and concentration of scientific temper from Arabia to Europe. Because of the cruelties and inhuman behaviour of mohammed's armies, the scholars ran northwards with their books and knowledge. Thats how the dark continent of Europe became enlightened. At the same time India was going in reverse.
