Friend,
One incident involving some Rajput family from Riwasa village of Bhiwani district was involved in some Police Cases during the Emergency period [1975-1977]. After the lifting of emergency Lok Sabha elections were announced and held in a very surcharged atmosphere in which slogans were coined to denounce many politicians including Chaudhary Bansi Lal, the then Defence Minister of India for the 'excesses' committed by them. He, Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Mr. Sanjay Gandhi lost the elections and Janata Party Govt. was formed at the centre and subsequently elections to nine state assemblies including Haryana were also held. The Congress could win barely five seats out of 90 it contested. Ch. Devi Lal became CM of Haryana in June 1977.
The Union Government of India appointed JC Shah Commission to inquire into allegations of the emergency excesses. One of the charges levelled against Chaudhary Bansi Lal was termed as 'Riwasa Kand' in which Haryana police excesses against the said family were attributed to have had been committed at the behest of Mr. Surendra Singh, the then high profile leader of Youth Congress in Haryana. The fate of the findings of the Shah Commission remained wrapped in pages of its report because in 1980 Smt. Gandhi again became Prime Minister of India.
To the best of my knowledge and belief, this is the fact file of the case known as 'Riwasa Kaand.' This version can be verified from the Shah Commission Report submitted to Government of India.
More gossips and mere street talks than true narration of the incident could be heard from the mouth of the people for both sides opponents and supporters of Late Ch. Bansi Lal to bring him down his younger son was painted larger than life 'devil' in those days. Moreover, it was also painted as a rivalary between the Jats and Rajputs too by the vested interested, which had no iota of truth.
Thanks
