Dear All,

Here is a small problem which will give you a good brain exercise.

Problem: -

A man is going on straight way to Delhi , in between his journey he finds that the way is divided into two subways (like ‘Y’) and on the joint of these two subways a man is selling fruits there. One of the two subways, there is the village of fruit-seller and another subway goes to Delhi . And the man who has to go to Delhi doesn’t know the exact one way to it. There is the only person, who knows the exact way to Delhi is the fruit-seller, but the probability of speaking truth by the fruit-seller is 50%, i.e. the answer which he will respond may be either correct or incorrect because he will just answer in ‘yes/No’ and another condition is that he will give answer to just one question. And the man who has to go to Delhi knows well about the fruit-seller’s habit.

Now CAN U TELL WHAT QUESTION the man asked the fruit-seller, such that, on the basis of his answer (whether fruit-seller speaked truth or false) the man managed to decide the exact path to Delhi .

...?

I am not sure but give an attempt.

THis way(pointing to one of them) doesnot go to delhi because you lie ?

Is this correct one ?

The Man will point towards one sub way and will ask "Is this way leads to your villege ?"

Doesn't matter Whether the fruit-seller says yes or no the other sub way leads to Delhi.

Hi,

How ....can you explain more.

speaking truth by the fruit-seller is 50%........

Come on man u might have not read it properly... he can lie also.

Say, if he says yes but he lies then according to u the ans is the other way but the actual ans is the one which u pointed to ask the question... I hope u got what i meant.

Let me clarify !

I said that the man points towards one sub way and asked the fruit seller that "Is this way leads to your villege ?"

Now two options

If Fruit Seller lies he will say NO : ( but the answer is wrong ) so the other way leads to Delhi ... Right ?

If Fruit Seller speaks the truth he will say YES : ( answer is right ) so obviously the other way leads to Delhi ... Right ?

In both the answers i.e. YES/NO .... the other way leads to Delhi.

Any doubts NOW ? DEV ?

but actually the person don't know that the fruit seller villages path can also leads to Delhi in that way na as the person is unaware...........

NO : ( but the answer is wrong ) : HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT HE IS RIGHT OR WRONG. He is not going to tell you that he is speaking truth or not.

AND If Fruit Seller speaks the truth he will say YES : YES IS ALWAYS NOT TRUTH. HE MAY SAY NO FOR TRUTH.

I don't know whether he is telling a lie or truth when he is being asked but in every case ( whether he lie or speaks the truth ... the other way leads to Delhi ) ... just becoz the question is asked in such a way.

AND If Fruit Seller speaks the truth he will say YES : YES IS ALWAYS NOT TRUTH. HE MAY SAY NO FOR TRUTH.

Comon man just read the question first ... what is being asked to the fruit seller. Than reply ONLY.

If he lies he can never say YES becoz in that condition it will be truth only .... but not a lie.

On the other hand if he speaks truth than he can't say NO becoz that will be a lie only..... but not truth.

Read once again what qusetion is being asked to the fruit seller and than analyze the options.

If you still didn't got it than better prepare yourself before asking something here. :)

Ok suppose we know that LEFT SIDE WAY LEADS TO DELHI and RIGHT SIDE WAY LEADS TO VILLAGE.

Now the person points at LEFT side (becoz he dont know anything) and asks Is this way leads to your village?
and fruit-seller says, YES. then according to your answer Delhi is at RIGHT side......but this is wrong.

If you still didn't got it than better prepare yourself before asking something here. :)

Why are you getting irritate. If you are correct then try better to explain your answer.

Everyone solves that in the first year Logic course :) Standard Question

If Fruit Seller lies he will say NO : ( but the answer is wrong ) so the other way leads to Delhi ... Right ?

If Fruit Seller speaks the truth he will say YES.... Where is this written that if he speaks the truth then it must be yes only ???? : ( answer is right ) so obviously the other way leads to Delhi ... Right ?

In both the answers i.e. YES/NO .... the other way leads to Delhi.... Kindly, read the question again coz u have misinterprested completely.

Any doubts NOW ? DEV ?

Yes Dev i got it correctly what you want to say !

If he lies than he can never say yes becoz that will be the true answer ... From where did u conclude that??? Which sentence of the problem say that ??? I wud like to hear how did u assume this.????
.. not a lie ....... got it :)

I have marked the important lines of the question in Red ... There is no condition that if he says yes then dat is always truth. Let me elaborate this little more.

There Are 2 ways A and B.
Now, Vijay's question Is this way lead to your villAge ?" say pointing towards A.

Suppose the guy says yes and he is speaking the truth then ans will be -> B
Suppose the guy says yes and he is lying then ans will be -> A

Suppose the guy says no and he is speaking the truth then ans will be -> A
Suppose the guy says no and he is lying then ans will be -> B

This is enough to prove that the interpretation is wrong. If still u have doubts on that then i cant help that. This is enough explanation to prove the ans is wrong.

Secondly, if the ans is so simple then its not worth to post such question.

Sanjeev am i correct on the explanation ???
