Question to be asked was already mentioned in the earlier post in bold. I am putting it again "Assume a person who for a given question will give opposite answer to the answer that you would give (i.e. if you are lying he will speak truth and vice versa) . Now will such a person tell me that the left road goes to Delhi"

For better understanding it can be rephrased as
"Dear fruit seller, if there is a person who for a given question will give opposite answer to the answer you will give for the same question and if I ask him that does the left road goes to Delhi, will he say yes?"

I hope this clarifies

NOT CLEAR....:(

Please be specific 'what is not clear', question or the explanation? I have rephrased the question so it should be clear now. If explanation is not clear then you can spend some time and workout the possible scenario for the yes and no answers for the question that I have given.
If still not clear then have a look at the easier version of the same puzzle at
http://www.jatland.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11684 (as mentioned by Vijay earlier). The difference in your puzzle and Vijay's puzzle is that in Vijay's puzzle there are two people, one of them will lie and other will say truth.
Even after all this if it still not clear then mail me I will try to explain.

Question to be asked “ Assume a person who for a given question will give opposite answer to the answer that you would give (i.e. if you are lying he will speak truth and vice versa) . Now will such a person tell me that the left road goes to Delhi” If fruit vender says ‘yes’ then right side road goes to Delhi else if he says ‘no’ then the left side road goes to Delhi.

Explanation:
Case 1: Left side road goes to Delhi
Case 1a: Fruit vendor is lying. In this case imaginary person would have spoken truth and would have told me that ‘left road goes to Delhi”. Because fruit vendor is lying he will say ‘no’ to indicate that the imaginary person would not have told me that “the left road goes to Delhi”. Fruit Vendor answer ‘NO’-> Left side road goes to Delhi.
Case 1b: Fruit vendor is speaking truth. In this case imaginary person would be lying and would not have told me that ‘left road goes to Delhi”. Because fruit vendor is speaking truth he will say ‘no’ to indicate that the imaginary person would not have told me that “the left road goes to Delhi”. Fruit Vendor answer ‘NO’-> Left side road goes to Delhi.
Case 2: Right side road goes to Delhi
Case2a: Fruit vendor is lying. In this case imaginary person would have spoken truth and would not have told me that ‘left road goes to Delhi”. Because fruit vendor is lying he will say ‘yes’ to indicate that the imaginary person would have told me that “the left road goes to Delhi”. Fruit Vendor answer ‘Yes’-> Right side road goes to Delhi.
Case 2b: Fruit vendor is speaking truth. In this case imaginary person would have been lying and would have told me that ‘left road goes to Delhi”. Because fruit vendor is speaking truth he will say ‘Yes’ to indicate that the imaginary person would have told me that “the left road goes to Delhi”. Fruit Vendor answer ‘Yes’-> Left side road goes to Delhi.

From above explanation
‘Yes’ means right side road goes to Delhi.
‘No’ means left side road goes to Delhi.

Where is the question in this i mean the right ans ... Secondly, ur explanation is quite confusing and still i feel this is not the right ans.
I don't know how you have come to the conclusion that my answer is wrong if you have not understood it in first place.

Nope man still its not clear :mad:

Isn't anybody who read my previous post will know what is the question that needs to be asked to the fruit vendor? Try again and atleast read the letters in Bold.

Dev I doubt whether you have read any of my post. Because question that needs to be asked to the fruit vendor is mentioned in the first line it self. Now for your understanding I had also rephrased in my second post. Still you didn't get it. Then I wrote another post to explain it to you. But still no use. Please reread the posts may be you will get it right this time. Still if you don't get it then call me at 9845123042(its banglaore no so should be local for you) I will try to explain it.

My answer is also based on +ve and -ve. It may not match word to word to the answer that you may have but core should be the same. May be you should reread my answer. If its wrong then tell me why its wrong.

A simpler answer..

Ask the fruit vendor this question “ IF I would have asked you the question that ‘does the left road goes to Delhi’, then in your current state of mind(about saying truth or lying) would you have said YES”

If the fruit vendor says “YES” then the left road goes to Delhi irrespective of whether he is lying or not.
If the fruit vendor says “NO” then the right road goes to Delhi irrespective of whether he is lying or not.

Why you are not considering the truth or lie of fruit-seller....??

Why you are not considering the truth or lie of fruit-seller....??

I have considered the truth or lie of the fruit vendor.

The question has two parts and fruit vendor and has to show consistency in answering both as he has to answer both using his current state of mind (for telling tie or truth). (This is the case if fruit vendor is simply telling truth or lie and not trying to trick you; which I have assumed is true otherwise I think it is impossible to get the way using a single question.)

If he is saying truth then +ve and +ve for two parts will result in +ve.
If he is lying then -ve and -ve for two parts will result +ve.
This way we have made the final answer independent of whether fruit vendor is telling truth or lie.

Vikram i just got your point. but can you explain one more thing :

If he is saying truth then +ve and +ve for two parts will result in +ve.
If he is lying then -ve and -ve for two parts will result +ve.

Here when he is saying truth then both question will become in +ve state and if he speaks lie then both question will become in -ve state.....??

Bhai eb yo explain karna kasoota kham sia. Kudh tai dekh le to bhadeya rehga yaar.

Chal mie ‘C’ style maie answer daen kie try karo so

If (left road goes to delhi == yes)
{
If( current sate of mind == truth)
{
Answer for first part (‘does the left road goes to Delhi’) = yes;
Final answer = yes; /*As state is truth so answer for first part and second part will be same */

}
Else /* ( current sate of mind == Lie)*/
{
Answer for first part (‘does the left road goes to Delhi’) = no; /*as state == lie */
Final answer = yes; /*As state is lie so the answer for second part will be inverse of answer for the first part. He can not say ‘no’ because in that case final answer is true i.e. he agrees that he would have said ‘no’ for the question ‘does the left road goes to Delhi’ which is contradictory to his state of mind which is of saying lie */

}
/* So irrespective of state of mind, answer is always ‘Yes’ if the left road does go to delhi */

}
Else /*(left road goes to delhi == no)*/
{
If( current sate of mind == truth)
{
Answer for first part (‘does the left road goes to Delhi’) = no;
Final answer = no; /*as state is truth so answer for first part and second part will be same */

}
Else /* ( current sate of mind == Lie)*/
{
Answer for first part (‘does the left road goes to Delhi’) = yes; /*as state == lie*/
Final answer = no; /*As state is lie so answer for second part will be inverse of answer for the first part. He can not say ‘yes’ because in that case final answer is true i.e. he agrees that he would have said ‘yes’ for the question ‘does the left road goes to Delhi’ which is contradictory to his state of mind which is of saying lie.

}
// So irrespective of state of mind, answer is always ‘No’ if the left road does no go to delhi

}

Please forgive me, I can not give any simpler explanation L.
