Dear Jatlanders, it gives me great pleasure to announce that our own Col. Jagmohan Malik has graciously accepted to take over as Director of Sukh Ram Memorial Public School, Kalirawan, Hisar as of August 1, 2006.

Let me first give a brief description of the school. My wife Santosh and I started this charitable school in my village in 2001. School takes in 60 kids every year, age 4-5 years in LKG. So far we have 435 students up to 6th grade. We already have the recognition from Haryana Bd of Education up to 10+2, a Haryana Govt. requirement before we can be associated with CBSE. Now after getting NOC from Haryana, we will apply for affiliation with CBSE. School building of about 45,000 SF, 3-stories is complete, and is enough for high school. Teacher’s quarters and a Guest House (for Jatlander volunteers who would like to impart some of their knowledge to students) are under construction and will be completed within the next three months. Since there is no residential arrangement for students, all the students are from Kalirawan itself. School is situated on 28 acres on Hisar to Bhadra Road. Couple of pictures of the school facilities may be viewed at www.jatland.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11886. Santosh and I go to India twice a year to spend some time at the school.

At present we have a teaching staff of 17, a very dedicated and hardworking staff. For the first couple of years, the medium of instruction was Hindi but then changed to English. I was very apprehensive when we changed the medium to English but students and teachers were very excited and are doing well. Monthly fee was Rs 60 and is changed to Rs. 60 for KG, 80 for primary and 120 for middle school. The total increased revenue from this change has been provided to teachers as pay increase. All near future increases in revenue will also be provided to the staff as additional pay increase. Santosh and I are providing and will provide for all the Capital Expenditure (land, buildings and infrastructure, furniture, playgrounds, landscaping etc). In addition to capital expenditure, at present there is and will be in the near future a deficit of about Rs.1500. per student per year, which we provide for.

Most of you are familiar with Col. Malik, however let me add what I think he is and what will he add to the school’s future. He is a very dedicated person to family, welfare of the community and rural education. He has a pragmatic approach to any problem with very balanced views on life and everyday happenings. His vision for the future of this institution is similar to ours. He insisted that he will not stay in Hisar (about 16 miles) but in the school premises so that he can devote his full attention to the affairs of the school as well as to the welfare of the villagers. It is ours and school’s good fortune to have a person of his caliber to take care of the day to day affairs of the school and future plans. It is a turning point in the short history of the school.

My heartfelt thanks to Col Malik for accepting to be part of our dream, for leaving a comfortable life in Mumbai and taking the responsibility of the welfare of the students and the villagers. Some Jatlanders have asked as to what we get out of Jatland.com? Now this is one example where we would not have met if there were no Jatland.com and that would have been the misfortune of the school. My thanks to Nitin Dahiya for creating this site.

Arya ji, on the very outset let me congratulate you for all that you are doing for the people of Haryana at grassroot levels.I thinkone needs real compassion and true love for own people to devote oneself almost selflessly on such noble missions. You have set very high standards of charity, which i suppose will keep on motivating many more people in times to come.God bless!

Coming to Jaggu sir, i have the honour of interacting with him and i can vauch that you have selected a GEM for the job in hand.I am sanguine of his doing a wonderful job of it.He apart from being a genuine Jat,is also a true soldier and being the son of the soil will fit the bill very well. I wish Jaggu sir a fruitful, satisfying and wonderful innings at SRMPS,KALIRAWAN. Let the children benefit and grow like flowers under his dynamic leadership and your blessings.

Jatland is wonderful source of inspiration for many if not all.Kudos to Nitin too. My best wishes to the site too.

Congratulations to Col. Malik and best wishes for the success of the S.R.M.S. Kalirawan in the years to come. This also gives opportunities for the Jatlanders to use their energy in positive manner by supporting Ram Swarup and Santosh Arya to help rural children to achieve their potential.

Kalirawan School

Thanks to Dev Dahiya, Abhimanyu and Dr. Birbal Singh for good wishes and kind words. Yes Col. Malik is a gem and we are blessed to get his cooperation and full dedication to the cause. I have met him 4 times so far and each time I come out with increased respect for his ideals and thinking.

Amit Dahiyabadshah - to reach Kalirawan, take highway 10 thru Hisar to Sirsa. At 19th kilometer from Hisar, turn left at the crossing towards Adampur/Bhadra and the school is on the right at 7th kilometer. If you visit, please do talk to the students.

Vijay Rathee - Thanks for kind words, specially about Mrs. Arya. I consider her contributions to be much larger than mine. I was born, raised, got my education there and my family still lives there. She has not even lived in this village for any length of time but still shows such a keen interest in the future of kids there. She participates in all the affairs of the school. One is really blessed to have such a life partner. I will convey your thoughts to her. Thanks for the good wishes.

Thanks to Kalkhande ji and Deswal ji. Kalkhande ji, I am sure you will visit the school one day and provide your valuable inputs for the betterment of the institution.

Dr. Birbal Singh's challenge to Jatlanders needs to be followed on. I know that he will help by utilizing the Guest House for his long sojourn from University and enriching the students.

Lets know if we, members of Jatland, could of any help in this noble effort. The examples you have set are inspiring to us. Kudos to NAJC.

PS: Since pictures of the kalirawan school in jatland link are few and not very clear, members can view high resolution pictures in the following link. I am sorry I didn't have any other place to put them so I used personal login in sitekreator. Click on a pic to enlarge and click next to view more pics in same frame.

With our Malik Sahab on the scene I think we can really give a big push to education in rural areas. Its not just education for namesake, rural kids need good quality education. I can see a movement taking shape now on the horizon. Quality education at a price, which most rural folks can afford, is the need of the hour. Hope there is Internet facility in the school so that we can keep in tough with Malik Sahab on a daily basis?

Aryaji,

Education is the most precious gift and I laud you on your endeavours.

Heartiest Congratulations to our own Fauji (Col Malik)who will no doubt motivate and guide village kids towards better life and lay foundation for successful careers for which self discipline is prerequisite. Ramsarup ji and Santosh ji are shining example of what Jats can do with success. Wish more of us follow in their footsteps and make difference in the lives of others in a very positive manner. Education is the best gift any one can give. Best wishes for the success of this institution and hope to visit it next trip.

A Challenge Indeed....

Respected Elders & Dear Friends,

Thank you for the very kind words, blessings and good wishes (I surely need in abundance).

At the very outset let me admit that the motivation to contribute dawned upon me after interacting with a very simple, sincere, selfless & sacrificing couple, namely Sh Ram Arya & Mrs Santosh Arya. I had also spent a day at Kalirawan in Nov 2004 and felt positive vibes (I had posted my experiences in another thread).

Frankly speaking it was not an easy decision to take. However, I felt that since I would fulfil my major social responsibilities in a few months time, it was time to give something back to the community. I am indeed lucky to be getting a readymade platform to contribute.

I assure you that I would use all the skills at my disposal and make an honest effort towards achieving the aims of the institution. I shall consider myself blessed should my presence motivate even one child to achieve his aims.

This is not a swan song by any means and I shall continue to keep in touch with you all.

Regards,

JS Malik

This is some real work!
