What Went Wrong With Jats

We are getting better

It is disheartening to know that some people could not find any good in the Jat society. Is it really true? Or is that some people are always full of negative thoughts?

Nothing has gone wrong with the Jats in last 15-20 or 30 years. I do not think we were any better than what we are today at any other point of time. As a society we have progressed a lot and we will continue to do so.

Jats are not in bad economic conditions. No they are not at all. I am from Muzaffarnagar and it has the highest per capita income in UP and it is the highest in sugar production. And this has not happened by some magic....we have worked hard for that. Compare to 15-20 years ago, I see we are much better today.

How can we forget aap jis tau ke joke suanaya karte hain woh roti bhee ganthe ke sath khaya karta thaa...sabji mayassar nahi hoti thee...I remember in my village most of jats never ate any sabji...in winter they used to eat sarson ka saag and in summer rice and urad kee daal. Only rich had access to fruits. Aaj kisi bhee ghar me jaiye...refrigerator bhara hua milega sabji and fruits se...

gaon me sirf ek ya do logon ke paas cycle hua kartee thee...now people have cars...mere gaon me jaton ke 200-250 gahr honge and there must be at least 500 motorcycle and scooter....at least 10-15 cars...more than 100 tractors....there must be 500 tubewells....but 30 years before they had only one sarkari tubewell...kisi ke pas car nahi thee...15 years ago I had to walk 6 kms to go to school but now I see our younger brothers use motorcycle uspe bhee kala chasma laga ke:cool: . Everyone has access to mobile phone...

Our elders had no shoes to wear but now we wear nike and reebok...our ladies used to wear sada(ganda) sa ghaghra ...but now they wear banarasi and kanchipuram sari.

Now we have LPG in the kitchen..20-30 saal pahale toh kitchen hee nahi hoti thee….gobar me bechari aurton ke hath pak jate the...and khana banane me dhue se aankhe and fuk mar mar kar sar ghum jata thaa....

pahale gaon me ek do aadmi aise hote the who could write their name and they were called as padha likha and they had lot of respect in the society. Now ghar ghar me post graduate milenge.

People, if you want to find weakness in somebody you will definitely find many....log toh Bhagwan me bhee galti nikal lete hain....what to talk about the people. But lets be positive and at least feel good about what we have achieved.

Do you guys really think jats have not improved in last 20-30 years? please think again....and aap jis 30 years pahale kee bat karte hain...they did nothing but sara din hukka gudgudana....sas bahu ke rojana chundam-chunda rahati thee....saang and ragini ke peeche gahr ka sara kam chod ke 20 -20 kos dhakke khaya karte the...jhotte kee peet peet ke dahi tod diya karte the. If someone go to school they would say...scholl ja ke to kahin naa balister( barrister) banega tu...chal khet me ghas kat ke laa…

I agree we still have some weakness and there is lot of scope of improvement. The real problem of our community is the lack of good education. our youth do not have proper guidence. after completing the 12th standard many students do not even know what they want to do in the life. why? because parents themselves do not know. they can not guide their new generations. People have said ego, double standard, aggressiveness. Lack of leadership blah blah.....you may call it what ever you like but the cure of all these problems is the education. So please educate educate and educate.....

In conclusion we are much civilized today, our living standard is higher....and I hope we will continue to improve. And Dahiya Sir aap logon ka ashirwad raha toh ek din punjabiyon se bhee aage nikal jayenge...

Shailendra Tokas: you should have been fined for 1000 rupee and not just 100. Its ridiculous ...you break the law...so be prepare for the consequences...you are saying jat ke sharam nahi...did you have any respect for him? usko internet pe bhee badnam kar rahe ho. and I am sorry to say...you are not even smart...you paid 100 rupees where you should have given only 50. Is that what you call business?

My dear Arun bhai, i liked your response all the way. When i started this thread,i expected inputs this and that[both ways] ways. What do you think...i don't compare old times with current times...i do and i also know as to what kind of progress we have made? Progress which i am talking and we all should really be concerned ,has not been made at all. We have rather gone back on some counts. when we discuss education ,we discuss quality of it and character building...which is not happening. We all have travelled bare foot to and fro from the school as there were fewer numbers of schools in those days. I passed my 10th in the year 1975 from Hassangarh[Rohtak] and my village was almost 6-7 KM away from this town. if we have refrigerators and washing machines in the villages[few houses] it is no big deal as it was possible because of scientific manufacturing and hardly because of any contribution from our people. I beg to
dis agree with you that in olden days our elderly people used to play cards and do all sort of nikkamma things.........on the contaray those stupid things are being done by them these days as they have nothing else to do,as all control has gone in the hands of misguided new generation and this generation gives damn to these oldies.Things are not rosy as you brought out.Let us not bluff ourselves to doom.Educated people like you and me must see the ILLS of our kaum from a critical eye so as to address them in right earnest.I am thoroughly positive human being and am proud to be a jat but will always think about the negative aspects associted with us and because of which we are pulled back every time. We all mean good to our people and thats why we are discussing it out here[in house] and not on the streets of Srinagar. Let us join hands in analyzing and adressing the problems faced by our people and make them more happy and prosperous. AIM IS GOOD AND SO ARE THE INTENTIONS...........LONG LIVE JATS!

 Nice to see you so much aware about the society. It is very necessary to have deep thinkers in the society,as today there is even dearth of such people. An idea is like a spark and there are only few match sticks left in this world. It is very important to collect them all and work to give shine to this world.

Kiran ma'm, thanks so much for such a wonderful expression of your wisdom. Let us join hand and do our bit. Gratefulness!

..you should have been fined for 1000 rupee and not just 100. [/QOUTE]

This was the rate prevailed at that time - he couldn't have charged me more than that.

[QOUTE]Its ridiculous ...you break the law...so be prepare for the consequences... [/QOUTE]

It was really ridiculous. Firstly, there was no signboard of "No Parking" and 15-20 two wheelers were already parked there. Now, do you think that the person - who had inadvertently broken the laws or rules etc. - is the real culprit? Whom would you define as being innocent? I had given the fine too and moved on.
What is this 'preparedness of the consequences'? Was I planning for some burglary et al? Oh, that happened at my home in 2003 and the culprit was caught after 5 months. I spent Twenty thousand to catch that idiot!! He was a .....! I would not write much over here - nahin to kaiyon ko pareshani ho sakti hai.

[QOUTE]you are saying jat ke sharam nahi...did you have any respect for him? [/QOUTE]

Come on!! How can you make a guess - without knowing everything? Let me tell you the earlier part....!
When he was picking my Bike, by chance I saw it and ran towards him. When asked to free my vehicle, he said, "Ab to thaane mein hi milegi". When I was in the PS - he asked my details and enquired further, "Local lagte ho, kahan ke ho?". I said, "Munirka". He said, "Apna hi admi hai, 50 de de!". Just after that - some other person came and that constable asked for Rs. 50 from him also. That person gave 50 and went away. I was amazed!! What kind of gesture he was trying to show me - when he was taking the same amount from everyone?? After that I asked him for 'sharam' (that's why I used 'flat rate' in the post). It was my little ego part, that played it's role afterwards.
Now, he was the one who gave me 'choices'. I never asked him for any favour. Don't you think, he was comfortable with 'Munirkian' Jats or the people who get 'muaawja'? Does he had the right (being in public service) to ask for favours? Had he any kind of 'sharam' (either for Govt. or a Jat)?
If you still feel sorry for that guy and have a lot of respect for him - then be it! I don't have any.

[QOUTE]... usko internet pe bhee badnam kar rahe ho. [/QOUTE]

Do you - or anyone else - know the name or residence of that guy??? No?? Then whose badnaami is being talked about? If you want to know his details publicly - I still do remember his name and location.

Go through my post carefully - It's unedited!!

Moreover, why do you think that talking on the internet about typical public servants - asking for favours - is a 'badnaami' kind of thing? Recently, 'Sahara NCR' aired a sting operation of a Govt. Deptt. in Delhi. All of the public servants were harassing a contractor and were captured red-handed; forcefully asking and accepting bribes. The world was watching. As you said, "Be prepared for the consequences; if you break the law" - don't you want them to be prepared for the same? Aren't they breaking the laws? Can you or me, act as a firewall for those?

[QOUTE]and I am sorry to say...you are not even smart...you paid 100 rupees where you should have given only 50. Is that what you call business? [/QOUTE]

Now, don't tell me how to do the business and save money as well!!

[QOUTE] People, if you want to find weakness in somebody you will definitely find many....log toh Bhagwan me bhee galti nikal lete hain....what to talk about the people. [/QOUTE]

You are 100% right here. And proving too!

[QOUTE]But lets be positive and at least feel good about what we have achieved. [/QOUTE]

Are you talking about personal achievement or community's?

Individually, we may have achieved something; community as a whole needs to do a lot. Apna pet bhara hone ka matlab ye nahin hota ke sabhi ka bhara ho!! Jats may have started to show some progress; they are still ignorant upto some extent - about some basic responsibilities towards their family/community.

I can also write an essay on our achievements in the last 20-30 yrs. Let me remind you, the thread is "What Went Wrong With Jats" and whatever I felt wrong - I have written it here.

So, keep on doing your good to the community/humanity - instead of guessing, who is right or wrong!

Dear Dahiya Sir, I know this thread was started for the good intentions and I have no doubts in my mind that everyone here making effort to improve social, moral, or intellectual standards of the jat society. But are we doing it right?

Unfortunately, What I have seen on this thread is that everyone is trying to say the worst possible thing they can think of about the Jats. Let me ask a question here. if some Baniya comes and say the same thing to you about the jats what we see on this post, How would we feel? I know the answer. everybody will say…"Baniya jaton se chidhte hain"....but then aren't we doing the same thing here what those Baniya or Brahaman does. if what I see on this thread is true then those baniya's are right and no one should like jats.

Should this kind of adjective be used for Jats? at least I do not think so.

It is TRUE we have gone back on some counts. and character building is one of them…. in fact this is the main area where we have failed miserably. but then why is that not being discussed here? log DTC, and Delhi police ko gali de rahe hain. Is it a sin to be a police wala or a bus driver?

The original question was what has gone wrong with the jats in last 20-30 years? and people have written ego, aggressiveness, reluctance , leadership and so many more things which I do not want to repeat. May I ask a question here, Didn't we jat have these characteristics before 30 years? have we earned all these in last 30 years? And are these the biggest problem we have today? I think we have other bigger problems too.

This is what I think has gone wrong with the jats in last 20-30 years. These are my personal views and others have the rights to disagree.

1. Those who make any progress, they do not think they are jats any more. They do not want to have the JAT tag attached to their name. We have stopped respecting our self. bur remember people, if we do not respect our self, no body will respect us.

2. "PARIVAR NIYOJAN". We jats have accepted this and we are following it. which is good, but everyone wants a boy. ladki hogi toh abortion kara denge. so this parivar niyojan has done a lot of damage in stead of doing good for the jats. result is that ladko kee shadiyan honi band ho gayee hain. So we must tell our JAT brothers that PARIVAR NIYOJAN does not mean having only boys. Do not play with the nature, it will not be good.

3. pahle ham log akkhad the, lekin ab criminal hote ja rahe hain. why? q ki kuch kaam nahi hai karne ko. Kaam q nahi hai? because we do not have skill? why do we not have skill? Becase there is lack of good education.

There may be many more, but in my opinion these are the extremely wicked practice and should be avoided. Good news is that all these are not incurable and can be eradicated with the help of good education. By education here I mean the ability to decide what is wrong and what is right? Earning degree is just part of the education. We should learn how to earn respect and how to respect others.

I know changes do not happen overnight and it takes sometime to bring a change…specially if it is a good change….and I see that there are many wise people here on the jatland and elsewhere who are full of energy and knowledge are trying to work for the society. Which is a very good indication. And I am hopeful that very soon we all will start seeing the good changes in the jat society.

..."In my opinion some ego is good and every jat should have it" This keep us separate from rest, especialy punjus....

Ranvir bhai,

Ram-Ram

That's right! The situation is not so bad. I have also met good people - even in worst situations than these. My posting have been wrongly interpreted. In my previous reply - you must have understood, what I meant through that example. I wrote that incidence because the thread says "What went wrong with Jats". Had it been about Jats Achievements or Goodness etc. - I could have told something else! That was the best possible example to show - where we fail!

There's a little bit of difference in both the situations. PCR people gave you a smile, without uttering a word. What a nice feeling!! Traffic constable tried to show me his Jat fraternity - but without success (I still wonder - why did he behaved like that?). If he haven't gone so deeply and asked for favours - I would have simply paid the fine and moved on and could have forgotten that episode too.

It's also right that we should have ego to some extent. This characteristic of ours worked for me on that day.

I referred to dealing with 'typical' public servants in Govt. Deptts. - and even Jats are no exception.

Bhaisa'ab, the situation has changed - but, only for those, who came out of their wells/cages; in terms of being educated. While talking about ground realities, it's still bad; if not worst. What Jagmohan Sir have stated - still prevails to some extent in urban villages/rural areas.

We are all aware - education is the "Ram Baan" to survive and fulfill our dreams - but, people in villages haven't understood or doesn't want to understand this; maybe, ignorance on their part.

Swaty seemed to be negative and was trying to convince her about other aspects. I have clearly mentioned - (1) Don't be -ve (2) We are also venturing into other businesses as well and (3) Jats are also trying their best to work hard. I provided her an example about her wonderings (where we failed) - also related to thread.

The coin have two sides - we can look at it either way!!

Warm Regards and Ram-Ram bhai saahab!

You Both Are Right In Your Way

Bhai Arun and shailendra, you both are right with your point of view and as such you both are requested to play it easy.Unless we have contradictory views on a subject matter,it will become dull and the discussion will be dull and monotonous. Please relax and speak out your mind the way you feel comfertable. Ultimately, right and correct deductions will automatically be made out of the total discussion.Cheers!

Jat ki neeyat kharab ho gai

Dear All,

The answer is staring us all in the face. The truth is that Jats have started changing their value system like rest of the country. New culture has affected their Neeyat and it has become so bad now that easy money seems to have become an accepted way of life. The truth is quite contradictory to this belief and it is well established. It has been proven time and again that easy money is root of a lot of evils in our society dowry, family fights, murders, robberies are just some examples.

Perhaps the reason people fail to understand is due to this neo neeyat i.e. Me and mine being the focus of all our dreams and ambitions. The need is for honesty and not pretensions.:)

Ego and self respect are not the same thing. For human beings it is almost impossible to escape ego but unbridled ego makes life miserable all around. It drives individual to seek importance and when that is not forthcoming the individual tries various tricks e.g. criticising others which makes him/her feel superior for some time. But of course it is only a pretension. The inferiority complex does not go away which in turn gains him/her unwanted unhappiness. But if the individual realises that self importance is self defeating in itself and a highly undesirable personality trait which almost always leads to conflicts in the environment.

In my opinion these two items are on top of the list of what went wrong with Jats. Unki Neeyat Kaharab Ho gai. "Jaisi Neeyat waisi Barkat". If you neeyat is wrong every thing you do will be wrong. That is exactly what some Jats are doing. Is it any wonder that we fail to see the solution because we pretend to know every thing. Children have to be taught to live in the real world where things do not always happen according to your plans or wishes and one has to accept what life dishes out and move on with life.
"Be happy with what you have but not with what you are" Those who follow this are generally much happier individuals and responsible members of the society, we need more of them. It is not the individual who wins or loses in life but the policies on which one bases one's life decisions. If your decisions are based on easy money sooner or later it will come to grief but if your decisions are based on realities of life you will not be disappointed. Our needs are few and wants are many. Keep the wants under control including ego satisfaction and you will discover real happiness through mundane life. Some of us do not contribute to this philosophy and results are obvious.

Be Happy With What You Have but not with What You Are

Sheorayan ji, You have brought out corretly, the mantara of happiness. Unfortunately the real all round developement has taken place in last 30 years or so[i am talking of india] and mind you the pace of this modernisation had been super-sonic and it has taken our simple Jatland people by surprise.Jats are not known to be too pressing.Infact they like space and a little lessure but as the things moved at such a fast pace in last couple of decades, it really foxed our people. Also their land holdings also proved a curse for them as that one liner commanly used..."arre na naukari karrega te khetti kar lega" still echos in my ears.Though today there is a word doing roundis......"Je nahin padhhya...te naukari nahin mille ar naukari nahin millegi te bhukha marega......khood te rahye-e na" Yes definitely NIYAT mei bhi khot aaya se...thoddi neeyat maadi bhi jaroor hui sei...May be because of lack of finances again.

What is society?

[QOUTE]Are you talking about personal achievement or community's?. [/QOUTE]

Shalendra Bhai Namaskar,
maza aa gaya aapka jawab padhkar....kya eet ka jawab pathar se diya hai....ek ek shabd ka chun chun ke....ek akshar bhee nahi choda jiska jawab nahi aaya ho.....bilkul Shole ke Beeru ke jaisa...ek ek ko chun chun ke marunga.....ha..haaa....:) koi jat hee itna dhasu jawab de sake thaa:)

Now, let us come to the point:

If I am not mistaken, I have never mentioned any individual achievement. but someone else did write personal experience here on this post.

Arr bhai...A society is a group of individuals distinguishable from other groups by mutual interests, characteristic relationships, shared institutions and a common culture. and if individual makes progress the society will automaticaly progress.

This is a very interesting thread and I hope people here are really serious about the upliftment of the community and they are not writing just for the sake of writing. people here truly believe that these problem should be eliminated and everyone will start working towards it.

This will be my last post in this thread.:) but I am not going away, I will be watching it.

I wish you all good luck.

Why should it be your last post on this thread?

Dear Arun, why should it be your last post on this thread.Kindly don't feel bad.Hope you are not hurt dear? Cheers!

Excellent Post Jagmohan Sir

Your Post On Reasons Of Failure Of Jats Is Excellent
Gone Are The Days When Each Jat Used To Own 30 Killa Of Land
Land Has Divided Tremendeousely And If We Dont Shun Our Attitude Dont Become Smart And Shun Unnecessary Ego It Is Impossible To Suceed
Good Luck Sir

dere is hardly any thing rt wid jats

long wy to go. it is a sad story.

Interesting

I think its because Jats, as compared to Punjabis, are not ready to shun old beliefs and the old line of thinking. For example, marrying off girls early without giving them ample opportunities to pursue a career and giving importance to other issues(paying off debts, harvest, cattle, etc for immediate benefit, beacause of the lack of broader vision of investing now and gaining later) than education in the face of financial crises. There’s a need to adopt a progressive mindset and yes, to develop the vision of a businessman.

Now, this is only a personal opinion. I hope no offence would be taken, coz none is meant :)

Udita ma'm you are very right. We are way behind some of the progressive minded communities. We ought to change our attitude to excell.

I think the basic problem with jats is they are so forthright that they put people off with their brashness and tenacity. Also, a jat in a group stands out like a sore thumb(for others) and appears to be a threat to the artificial and fake social order set by punjabis. So, in order to be successful we need to tame down our boisterous attitude in a social setup and nobody can touch us.coz a jat is within our blood which will always remain with us!! Also, mind you, genuinity which is our virtue is our biggest asset and we do not need to use it(so to speak) every time as most of them do not possess this virtue..

I agree with Col. Tevathia but with a difference:
1. Typical JAT attitude of not accepting anyone better than themselves.(AAJ TAK KOYI BADHIYA MILA BHI TOH NAHI!)
2. An air of INVINCIBILITY that is inherited, generation after generation. Apne te bada kise ne sochte e na. Same here.(I AGREE!!)
3. RELUCTANCE to take up business and restricting to only 'Fauj', 'Police', 'Haryana Roadways', 'DTC', 'Bijli Daftar' etc( LADEINGE NAHIN, CHORON NE PAKDEINGE NAHIN, GADI NA CHALWANGE AR BIJILI NA DENGE TOH BHAI YOH DES CHAALEGA KUKAR!!)
4. A sense of SHAME in starting small ventures, shops etc. Why? Log ke kahenge, ke phalane ka potaa susra dukan kar rhya se.(JIB BADA KAAM KAR SAKEIN TOH CHHOTTA KYUN KARNA!!)
5. Unwilling to accept or should I say tolerate the success even within own community. Hogs susra DC apne ghar mein!!(MAHRE GHAR MEIN DEN LAGRA HAI KYA!!!)
6. Failure to IMBIBE positives of others experiences, even in farming.(KHUD KE JUDAG SE BADIYAH AUR KE HOVEGA)
7. Not accepting anyone as a LEADER. Saare leader hain.(JUSTICE,ACTION,TRUTH KA SANGAM KIS LEADER MEIN HAI!!!)
8. ABANDONMENT of villages by all those who shifted to towns. Of course they only return to take their share of sale proceeds and give lectures.(THEKE PE KETI CHAAL TOH RI HAI!!)
9. A basic hatred towards JATS by Brahmins, Banias & SCs.(INKI TOH......)
10. INABILITY to become a single votebank. Har ek gaam mein kam se kam teen, char gut sein.(EK JAT JAT, DOH JAT MAUJ, TEEN JAT BATTALION, CHAR JAT FAUJ!!!)
11. Not educating and trusting daughters. Ke kare gi padh ke, agle saal byah dein ge(MAHRE GHAR MEIN TOH CHORIYAN DACTAR, INGINER AR VAKIL BHI HAIN!!!)
KE KAHO HO COL. SAHAB!!!!

Also, mind you, genuinity which is our virtue is our biggest asset and we do not need to use it(so to speak) every time as most of them do not possess this virtue..

Fact.....absolutely correct observation dear but then we must act with brain inputs with an aim that we preserve our strong qualities while we smart out these so called cunning people with the strength of brain. Will not it be wonderful stuff? Think over please.
