There is some chatter about Education Reform being proposed by Kapil Sibal - HRD Minister. Follow this link ... this is exactly what I was referring to in my earlier posts about lack of quality education and Congress' role in it.

I will not believe it till I see changes on the ground.

Congress is atleast confessing to the failure of education system - Although they should come out and say it that they are responsible.

Admission of a problem/ mistake is a good first step.

But I hope its not the last step too!

Sateypal Ji,

A great post.

I differ in just one point-
blaming the Indian government for not able to create opportunities for the young generation. That is how is the correlation between the current happenings and the blame on Congress government who ruled the country for almost 60 years.!
Unquote-
Respect your viewpoint, however, any person can build a case for and against any government or policy in any country from material available on net/media, and also support personal ideology. You can blame government or else genes or anything in between to critic, condemn or complain or brush off the responsibility of our own lives.
Is it the lack of opportunity or the opportunity to earn in dollars, as Amit Sehrawat hinted, that attracts people to leave their homeland? Is personal ambition also dictated by the government or to be precise-congress?

Regards,
Anju

I did not require any effort to build the case. The evidence is for everybody to see.

Did you read the article by Arun Shourie that I had linked to earlier regarding this issue? If not you can go back a few posts and read it.

Please don't make open-ended statements unsupported by facts which include words like anybody, anything, anyone, anytime ... etc etc. Can you provide any analysis which substantially proves that this is not Congress' fault.

India has among the highest percentage of population that is illiterate. Congress has been in power 85% of that time. Education is considered a public good in almost all countries and government is responsible for formulation and executing education policy to deliver this public good. So there is very strong associative relationship.

If jhik jhik is your aim, then I will refrain from replying to your posts. If you have something coherent to say, please go ahead.

Sid,
The post was not addressed to you, so your reply was not expected either.
I would gladly participate in a healthy,multi-directional discussion where every viewpoint, contrary or in support of personal views, is respected. However, with you, I refrain from getting into an offensive mode, blame games and sarcasm because I am not good at them, niether would I like to add these to my skill set.
Having said that, I do look forward to some solutions as well coming up from you in the issues that you raise.Your knowledge definitely adds another dimension to the discussions.

Amit, you are absolutely right!!!......there are so many universities to apply to as well....another easy way is by getting married- to a citizen or a permanent resident!!!
ahahaha anju, guess you are soon going to oblige someone.

jokes apart, i wud like members to opt for canadian universities if their motive is getting a PR. in a recent directive issued by the labor nd immigration deptt of canada, wherby they have put an almost closure/full-stop on open immigration to canada, except for some specific trades. however, the major emphasis is now on immigration through education. the chances of a student getting PR in canada is as good as 99% if my assessment is correct.

Situation in Sydney

Hi guys,

I have read all of post but I would like to share my opinion with you guys. I live in Sydney for the past 6 years and I have seen this whole crime/racism thing closely. So my observation is

Are majority of Australians are Racist NO…I think the percentage of such people is very very low. I have met very few people during my 6 years whom I would say were racist and were unfair to me because of my skin colour. The problem is if something happens for eg you were expecting to get a job or something like that and you think you were deserving But you don’t get it, it directly comes to your mind that it must be because of my skin colour or prob my communication skills were not good enough (by that I mean you speak in an Indian accent) Indian tend to do a lot of interpretation of things in their own way which is not necessarily right.

Crime and Mugging…..there are some areas in Sydney which have high level of crime rates and were you are more like to get mugged such as redfern, cabrammata, granville etc. Generally north and east side are more secure and then south and west is the bad one where most of the Indians live. Now the basic problem is that most of the people who do these crimes are either Aboriginal Australians or Australian-Lebanese (or white junkies/druggist). These aboriginal people, all they do it live on pension provided by the Government and drink and take drugs (well they have their own issues such as stolen generation , google it, I don’t want to write about it here but basically that doesn’t mean they will lean towards crime and do nothing and sit on their bum). Lebanese people, they are like us, like jats, short tempered, high headed and very good built up. You will rarely see any Lebanese who don’t look like a bouncer. Plus they mostly hang out in groups and they are a very tight community so if you mess with one, they all will come after you. (if you hears some riots in 2006 in Sydney , it was against Oz-Lebanese). Now the problem is that most of the people committing crimes are under age and the laws for minors here are so weak and fragile that these guys don’t care. Even if they are caught nothing big is going to happen, maximum they will get some community service time or something like that. So they don’t care and also it is hard to catch them. There aren’t cameras everywhere and human intelligence is not enough and also most of the people don’t report. On top police do not have many resources to tackle these issues.

Problem happens when they rob you they say racist things like you f** Indians or curry or whatever and you feel that I m being targeted because of my skin. I think most of the people get mugged because they travel at the wrong time in the wrong place. One guy got mugged in my suburb. Why because he felt like calling home and went to railway station at 2 am in morning to use the public telephone and three guys came and mugged him plus bashed him. He should have been more careful and called in the morning or from his own home or friends place but no he has to go to station.

This is the scene in Sydney, I am not very sure about Melbourne

Thanks Aman for the information. In coming days they may come up with hard rules for teenagers too. Yahi haal UK ka hai but there blacks/whites fight with Pakis and not with indians. Druggist saud liye galiyan mein pade rahe hein er jitna mange ya sarkar dhore mile sare ki pee jyan hein. Asal mein wo kahya karein ne "Chikya aud bhi sedhe er bhookha bhi sedhey". Te apne aale jise desha mein bhookhe ghane sedhe hein er un deshan mein Chike aud kyonki uneh kyanhe ki chinta konya.

Overall Aman bhai ne sahi kahya ke savdhani rakhni chahiye time aur jegah ki.
Thode jyada paise lag jyan par aachi jagah raho.
Sare jane ikatthe rahein aur ek doosre ki help karein ... ke bera kad aapne jarorat pad jya.
Er daran ki ghani si baat na hai ... media ghana rolla kar rahi hai itna asliyat na hai.

Very good info Aman, you corroborated my belief in what was happening. As I said in one of my posts earlier, a lot of these happenings can be prevented if people do not go out alone, at odd hours, in shady areas.

Although I think part of the problem is also the economy these days. The 'goras' feel threatened by indian students who are known to be hard working and bright. Also trivial incidents like Symond-Bhajji episode etc might have also contributed atleast a little bit in changing the views about India for these rogue elements in australia.

But its catching on really bad. Everyday I logon to the news, there is one more thrashing in the headlines.

Thanks for the info though

PS: (Taking the conversation off a little tangent here for a minute, the Symond- Bhajji racial episode reminds me of how Bhajji had called him 'teri Maa - ki' and obviously to Symond it sounded like Monkey. Now caught in between was poor Sachin, who quiet rightfully has an honest reputation, poor guy, when asked kept circumventing the question about what bhajji had said and saying that it was NOT monkey...just something else sounding like that :D:D)

Re : Bhajji -Symonds

Dear Vikas

I am not sure how much the BS incident affected the normal attitude of goras against Indians but when it happened it certainly created some tension between goras and us. I am myself sort of became a victim of it. I was doing my internship in one of the best IT companies and normally the work place was great and I was enjoying my learning process and hoped to continue there once my contract was over. But then this one senior guy in my team went to India on some project and came back and he was winging about Indians all the time and it use to boil my blood and I felt so angry inside. I use to defend via arguments n all but could not say much because what he was saying was partially true as well. Anyway then this BS drama happened and there was so much bitching going around and this other Indian guy who was working with us (south Indian) was taking the side with goras and licking their and I just could not take it and started spending all my time in the lab. Eventually I dint get the work after my contract was over; I think the tension we shared was one of the reasons.

Well regarding the situation at the moment, I reckon there should be a range of solutions including but not limited to the following

• Awareness programs from University and police and Indian community
• More police patrolling of trouble areas
• Not risk taking by travelling in night , better buy some cheap car if late night work cant be avoided
• Though I feel like kicking some gora arse myself but the educated and thoughtful side of me tell me that we should refrain from it because it will not produce any fruitful result. At the moment we have the solidarity of local students and educated public.
• Should create national Indian student body to take these issues with the universities and government and with local Indian associations

Well these are my thoughts and I hope we will the brighter side in the coming days.
