World's fastest train: China

Metro is making some difference, where ever it is running, that is. Quite a few people park their cars next to metro station and take the metro as it is faster and convenient. Right thing to do would be to enhance the metro network, and support it with a connecting bus network. That would be worth every paisa spent on it (and should still be within 17 bn dollars).

I agree with you Kapil.. In India, We develop infrastructure to solve today's chaos. I never understood that why we are adding NCR regions in Metro now. Wasn't that part of Initial Blue Print..

They are planning to build Metro station till Bhadurgarh than why not till Hapur...
Can't they think systematic and make some integrated plan so that people trust on system..
Metro has card system.. why can't they put that in DTC.. Do they have any roadmap for that I am sure they don't have...

This is the problem.. no vision.. no roadmap..

my dear yudhvir, you are wrong here ! we develop infrastructure to solve yesterday's chaos. i wud have been a happier soul, if we wud have been sorting out today's chaos, but unfortunately tht is not the case.

have you ever been to metro stations parking lots ?... a mafia operates all theses parking throughout delhi (... that's another sore). there is hardly any room for the parking. nearby residential colonies (e.g. rohini stn) become the parking heavens. ... nd guess what ?... absolutely free !!!

nd where are the feeder buses that were in the blue print of delhi-metro ?... क्या करें, अब मेट्रो स्टेसन ही इत्ती मुस्किल तै बनाया सै... इब्ब यो बस स्टेसन ताइं जग्याह कित तै टोह कै लायें ? blame it on 'edwin lutyens'... !!!

p.s. : ... nd the discussion goes on nd on nd ON...

Dear Sir,
Feeder Buses are running on each and every connecting station by connecting all adjoining area but in fact these are very small size RTV's. Not able to bear the load of passengers so need to improve.
Even Metro also overburdened. in evening and in morning peak hours it is very difficult to catch a train for all routs. Need to improve services by increasing number of train on routs.

india shining... india doing this, india doing that... all non-sense !
...
i really get p.off whenever i see a comparison of india pops up with china. we seem to be 100 yrs behind them. wonder when we'll be able to catch china, in amount of progress they hv done (>>> note : here i'm talking of only infrastructure). on few other threads we were talking of indian fears with/abt china. somewhere in india today (... long time back) i read tht, china can turn india into stone age with days, if a war opens btwn the two countries. i hv reasons to believe tht. all wud be finished by the time our red-tape bureaucracy wakes up or our politicians are able to take any decisions.

the prob with india is tht they wake up when the water runs over yr neck. look at the infra-structure development proceeding now... this shud hv been done when asiads were held in india. take our our flyovers... exceed yr limit over 60 while taking a turn (... say at aiims) nd you'll fly off. imagine those int'l standards where you go in/out off ramps at 120kmph.

mark my words even after 25 yrs frm now... say 2035, india wud still not be in a position to hold a tournament like 'olympics'. it wud be interesting to see how well we organize these 'commonwealth games'... with these traffic snarls becoming the buzz of the day.

wonder what stops us from having such trains... at least for 500-1000 km destinations. if we dont hv the tech... buy it.

brahmtewatia sir, it looks vry easy to speculate nd criticise frm abroad. my brother lives in US nd he often put down out country for various reasons he sees there. i simply ask him evry time--why dnt u come down n settle here nd try to change 0.0001%.? having said that, indian rails is d largest employer in world,a fact. more than fastest label, accomodative matters most for d largest middle n lower middle class of country.

But dont u think managing 125 crores of people is a remarkable thing by INDIA.
Aus / US being larger than India... Can u imagine they can accomodate such a huge population...

As an individual we need technology....... but still we have majority of people who only rely and afford on 2nd class crowded trains. If we need to build capability for hi-tech trains we can do that anytime.... lots of Billionaire company would happily like to invest in India... But do u think that could be used by the general public of the country.. it wont be affordable as the operating cost of these transport mediums would by sky high..

Delhi METRO!!!

...The Indian Railways countrywide rail network is the most elaborate and dense network in the world; and is sort of a British bygone era gift....
The present and existing urban development, sprawl etc. highly limits making huge infrastructure changes (in the west; and being sort of involved with such government undertakings myself at times- they are starting to enforce public domain/or buying out Right Of Ways along old trails etc. to implement such changes in dense urban fabric neighborhoods).... while squatters, satellite townships and spill over urban infill areas undoubtedly continue to make it a huge challenge in places like India....

Secondly, I think we must be clear what we wanna discuss here; or at least i am confused with some of the cross discussions:
...is it across the state lines access train/rail improvements (high-speed trains) we are talking about OR inner city public transit systems?...

Because in the case of the latter; trust me when I say that what the Country's administration achieved with the New Metro system in Delhi (considering the same challenges I just mentioned of building in a dense urban area; and creating such a marvelous system out of all the investment/economic issues and hardships the country faces...and doing it in a highly timely fashion and on the given deadlines) is an example of great implementation of public transit system even in the west! (I can tell you about here in the US where a lot of folks - it being widely covered in the news and all at that time...folks...well, at least the ones that appreciate what it truly means in this new era of global infrastructure improvements etc.... were all gaga about it!)... made one very proud to be representing a country that managed that feat in these times!!! :)

P.S. @ Meera,
Look, when someone points out any kind of concerns and/or challenges that they see (and rightly maybe even feel highly frustrated about) in a public forum meant only for his/her fellow countrymen (birds of same feathers) then it should PLEASE not immediately by default be looked at as some 'disillusioned' NRI criticizing his country to the world... We are after all among our peers here.

Add to that the fact that were the same valid (or not) discussion points been presented by (and have been presented by) someone residing in India ….and then folks like you would not (and never do) 'split-hair' about ‘where loyalties lie’, I think makes it highly prejudicial and a sort of unfair 'generalization' of us folks residing out of the country ….a country that we love and respect and place on a pedestal above any other one that we may live, work or play in at any point or time in our lives!!!....

My 10 cents.. They are not managing 1.25 billion ppl.. They are exploiting them...
Same way Britishers managed one-third of the world..

We don't need to build China like trains.. but we definitely need to build infrastructure in terms of better health care, better education system, better roads.
Let me surprise you, 60% of railway infrastructure is from British Era..

We need these things.. These things attract decent FDI and we'll be in better shape to give employment to our people.
Its a vicious circle of demand and supply.. People will get job, they will spend more, there will be more industrialization and then their will be more jobs.

Yeah .. metro got off to a good start with the right kind of people at the helm. Once the public started liking the metro, politicians could not touch it because we know they turn everything to $hit.
I would not worry about people calling out NRI's on every little thing they write here - they are just annoying and tedious - whiny little pricks. Who gives a crap what they think!

Meera ji because we are opportunist people.. We found it damn hard to live with that system and found something comfortable offshore for ourselves.
We wan to work 5 days in a week.. we don't want to drive in potholes.. we don't want to spend 7 hrs to travel 200km..
There is so much to add in the list..

I bet.. Please add single competitor in rail system.. Indian railway won't even survive for an year..
Let me tell you, everybody living out of India is doing a great job to this nation by increasing its Foreign reserve, Bringing new ideas and obviously becoming brand ambassador of this country..
Many times foriegners asked me that if I have ever witnessed any bomb blast, rape or murder in India.. What should I answer them??

Lutyen's Delhi?

blame it on 'edwin lutyens'... !!!

p.s. : ... nd the discussion goes on nd on nd ON...

You mean Sir Edward Lutyens...
Also arguably known as the greatest British Architect of the 20th century...

and I guess while New Delhi is also known as "Lutyens' Delhi" at times of historic presentations and in certain publications etc.... it does create the confusion in most peoples mind because in reality he is credited to designing and building ONLY a section of what is now the present metropolis of 'new' Delhi...
[...that section which now serves as the seat of the Government of India... That whole circular configuration of Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate etc. etc. kind of core areas that also serve as the finest examples of the fusion of British colonial and Indian Architecture....]

But remember in the end he was just a commissioned Architect that immediately grabbed the most valuable (open/cleared) critical site area and obviously created something iconic out of it; something that endures till this day....
(He was not a Town planner and is NOT responsible for the rest of the configuration as and when it started to happen after that... the walled city areas and satellite townships that have sprung up much after his times...)

So really, the rest of the haphazard, uncontrolled sprawl and development we can all credit to ourselves! .... (and have you folks noticed how well that same sort of 'planned development' now spilling over to areas like Gurgaon???)

Don't get me started on Gurgaon ... they keyword here is gaon. Matter of fact, my mothers gaon is better than Gurgaon.

Ye china ka hi viedo hai aur ye mujhe kaafi din pehle mila tha ek mail mein
Netherlands mein ek train ki patri bichai gayee thee bahut sara paisa kharch karke rotterdam se Germany border tak. Saman ko laane aur le jane ke liye. Train chalai to pata laga ki iska kharcha water transport (traditional system of transport) se kahin jyada hai aur doosra Germany border se aage wo train kaqhin jati nahi.
Ab log kehte hain ki train to no where ki patri par din mein do train chalai jati hain taaki wo patriyan jang na khayein.
Dubai ne bhi bina jaroorat ka infrastructure bana ke khada kar diya jiske karan wahan ke halat kaun nahi janta?
Ek train se jana ek petrol se chalni wali car se mehnga pade ya ye kaha jaye ki plane ke kharche ke barabar padega to aap mahanubhavo mein se kaun train se jana pasand karega?

Sabse pehle basic jaroorat hoti hain uske baad ki luxury ka sochna chahiye.je wa train chal gayi to usme log wo e bhada chahenge jo doosri train ka hai. Metro ka kiraya 5 rapiye badha to mhare e bhai bandhuwa ne jake CHAKKA JAM kara tha dilli mein. 'sir edwin landseer lutyens'. yes shail, i'm talking of him nd on all tht is underlined, my answer is also >>> very obviously YES.

my mention of 'edwin lutyens' was only to emphasize on the fact tht when it comes to designing/architecture of delhi... he is the only figure that pops-up into yr mind as 1st reference... oh yaaa "lutyens delhi'. its a different matter all together, that h.k.l. bhagat nd sajjan kr have contributed more by developing those pristine (... wait !!!... ahahaha) squatters throughout delhi. correct ? huh ?

make no mistakes, that my previous sarcastic post was highlighting one big fundamental error nd that is our ill-planning nd the delay in its execution. another classic examples are our these new flyovers... you fly-over one nd you are stuck at the next red light. i visit delhi nxt year nd delighted to see a new fly-over at the erstwhile red-light. i fly over nd over again... but wait, this time i'm stuck-up in the converging traffic coming frm $$%#$%^$@#$%. oops poor me... i thought i'll fly nd fly nd over nd over but it still takes me 1 hr 45 mins to reach my in laws in pashchim vihar frm s.delhi.

nd what is tht corridor known as ??? rapid bus transit corridor ? can someone update me on that latest sore... please.

Those brothers and sisters who are smitten by chinese progress, here is a food for thought. Developing roads and electricity is just one aspect of development, losing your compassion is 'Chinese'. Watch this video below...

WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. I HAD TEARS COMING OUT ON WATCHING THIS VIDEO. THE UGLY SIDE OF CHINESE IS SHOWN HERE.
CAUTION: IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO. GIVE THEM A HUG, SOME FOOD AND SOME WATER. Make sure you protect them.

I watched this video about 6 months ago, I made it a point I will never buy anything made in china. I would much rather pay more money to buy products made from other countries.
