Yuyutsu ... The only Kaurava who fought from Pandav's side.
Dharm ke liye apne bhai aur apni saari sena ko chod diya jo ki doosre maharathi like Bhisham bhi nahi kar paaye(had their own reasons but still yuyutsu was a great character). Sachhai ke liye apne sagge bhaiyon se bhi bhid jaane wala sabse diler insaan hai. He was Vibhishan of Mahabharata. Par afsoos usse koi khaas bada sthaan nahi mila iss poori kahani mein aur naa hi jyadatar log usse jaante aur samajhte hai.

Vidur: Sabse bada gyani aur krishan bhagat(krishan ko bhagwan dikhaya gaya hai mahabharat mein aur bhagwaan se bada agar koi ho sakta hai toh uska sachha bhagat, ye baat bhagwaan bhi maante hai). Jiski niti aaj bhi padhi aur maani jaati hai.

Yes Vidur was no doubt a clever n principled minister. as was Chanakya, which i love the most in the whole history.

Mahabharata, the great epic

.

How many of you (jatlanders) actually believe that everything written in Mahabharat was happened on ground and this mahakavaya is not a fiction.

...Good, interesting thread!

... It is a tough one since this episode/incident/actual (or fiction), is simply so colorful in every aspect!

Well, if one is to think hard I would have to say that have long been fascinated by the way ABHIMANYU has been detailed in all versions of this great epic!...

The fact that he was sort of a young turk who is supposed to have imbibed his Kshatriya roots at a very tender age and had them tested (albeit fatally) at the famous field of Kurukshetra, a youth who surely must have to walk under the long shadows of his illustrious and famous father, and proved to be a fearless disciple of the art of war who supposedly learnt (or was born) with the qualities of a true warrior straight from his mothers womb!...
The 'Chakravhiu' or the battle formation strategy Kaurava's were able to use successfully against the Pandava's was broken into by him alone and also that he went down after being cut off from his forces still unafraid and fearless in death is a very strong lesson in life itself!...

My take on the other 'heroes' of Mahabharata!?!...
Yudhistir could almost be a typical selfish and backbone less guy who never knew when to stop while he was still ahead (losing everything at a chaupad game!) and then failing to protect the humiliation of his kin!
Bhim was an overgrown oaf who liked to bully folks and probably never thought twice before breaking someone's back!
Arjun was most likely a 'vain' character (easily humiliated that Karan was better than him at his fav. archery)
and then finally Nakul-Sehdev amounted to being just 'pretty-boys' who hardly had an opinion on any matter!

My favo too was Abhimanyu! :)

....
to de do keval paanch graam
hum wahi khushi se khaayenge
parijan par asi na uthaayenge
duryodhan woh bhi de na saka
aashish samaaj ki le na saka
ulta hari ko baandhne chala
jo tha asaadhya saadhne chala
hari ne bheeshan hunkar kiya
apna swaroop vistaar kiya
dagmag dagman diggaj dole
bhagwan kupit hoke bole
to le main bhi ab jaata hun
antim sankalp sunata hun
yaachna nahi ab ran hoga
jeevan jai ya ki maran hoga
bhaai par bhaai tootenge
vish baan boond se chootenge ...
.................

yaad sai ibb taai :o:D

In continuation............

Duryodhan rann aisa hoga
Fir nahi kabhi waisa hoga
Takrayegen nakshtra nikhar
Barsegi bhoo par vehni prakhar
Fann shesh naag ka dolega
Vikraal kaal muh kholega
Kah kar prabhu sabha ko chhod chale
Karke rann garjan ghor chale
Thi sabha sann sab log dare
Chup the ya the behosh pade
Kewal do nar naa aghate the
Dhritrashtra, Vidhur sukh paate the

Aur bhi bahut lambi hai ye poem....:)
Written by Ram Dhari Singh Dinkar

Well, my favourite is Karan

When Kunti approached Karan and requested him to leave Kauravas and join Pandavas as a tactic of Krishna, then Karan says……..

Jaane kya aaj aap sabne paaya hai
Mai khoob samjhta hoon, neeti ye kya hai
Asamay janami preeti ye kya hai
Jodne nahi viyukt kuljan se
Phodne mujhe aayi ho Duryodhan se
Kintu ye hoga nahi devi tum jaao
Jaise bhi ho sut ka sau bhagya manao
De chhod bhale hi Krishna kabhi Arjun ko
Mai nahi chodne wala Duryodhan ko
Kunti ne kewal janama diya Radha ne maa karam kiya
Par kahte jise asal jeevan
Wo dene aaya Duryodhan
Wo nahi binn maata se hai
Badhkar sahodar bhrata se hai.

Duryodhan fought for his right and Karan showed his courage and loyalty.
Rest all who fought for Kauravas, cheated Duryodhan in one or the other way like…..Bheeshma, Drona, Shaiyla…
And the most corrupted is Krishna……if he is God, knows everything, knows that Mahabharat is going to happen, then he should have acted as a mediator in a right way and could have avoided Mahabharat…... so much loss of men , money and material….

Great Mind

Maharishi Vyas was a great scientist. His style of telling the story is unparalleled.

He explains the most complicated and complex issues with such ease.

He has created characters which represent different facets of our personality and explains it with such an ease.

E.g Compassion, Charity, Fear, Greed, Vanity, Deceit etc etc but in the end Self must go above all emotions (good and bad)

The more I read this great book, The more I revere such a great sage.

Deepak Bhai, I don't know which books you have read but if you like to get into more details of the characters of Mahabharta then i would like to recommend you two books specifically.

1 Krishnavtaar By K M Munshi ( 7 parts )
2 Mahasamar By Narender Kohli ( 8 parts )

KM Munshi was a well known scholar, former Governor and researcher.
Narender Kohli is widely known for his reaserch work on ancient epics and history.

Thanks for the continued poem.

And regarding Krishna well that is exactly the reason he is named as "Leela Avtaar " ... :)

I heard for the first time that Duryodhana fought for his RIGHT ... Right for what ? Right of greed, right of power, right of corruption, right of deception, right of selfishness, right of ..... oooops i am running out of words about his RIGHTS.

Why the hell on this Earth people like Bheeshma had to fight for Duryodhana ? Bheeshma was loyal to the throne of Hastinapur and he fought for that bravely and honestly. Nobody can doubt his loyality towards the Kuru Dynasty.
