branding of jats

Agar sirf degree lene ko intelligence nahin manna chaahiye, to sirf apni bhasha use karne ko bhi rudeness nahin manna chaahiye. Branding any community with -ve comments is as stupid as one can get on a national newspaper. Haven't seen the article, but if it was a sh*t show on all communities, then probably they were just trying to have some fun. If we were singled out for negative comments, then either we should take some action or just ignore them (TOI has committed much more serious blunders than this one). But there is no point in doing a "Oh, it hurts but isn't it true" kind of soul searching over some silly comments made by an idiot without doing any research.

i am actually quite surprised by the responses in this thread.....mujhe to laga tha mere reply ke baad mujhe kafi negative comments milne wale hein :D...

Aapko aacha nahi lagta aapko koi jat kehta hai to??????

jats are only known for bitternes of tounge and softness of heart. What i got from your words is that you feel ashamed when people look at you with wide open eyes and say "Ohhh! you are a jat" but actually they are surprised that you are a jat. A car have to look like a car and a truck like a truck so a jat have to look like a jat. In my circle there are lot of jats who are much more intelligent they their colligues and people respect them not only because of they are intelligent but as they are Jat.

One such person is Mr. R K Malik G.M. (a pvt. company with turnover 700 crore a yr.) .Once there was a strike in one of the plants .Everyone (MD also) tried to convince workers and failed then someone called him from home he was on rest. He came simply dressed in kurta paijama came out of car with one feet long stick and said " Haan bhai ke bimari hai kunsa khagad paak rehya hai" a lot of formal people were there. And you know magic of these words after two minutes no one was left in ground. So this is our mother tounge and i myself never felt ashamed in using it . I know what i am and what are my capabilities but this doesn't mean that some stupid idiot fellow call us stupid as we don't want to become donkeys like them. if you feel you need to be changed then go ahead but you say that some fool wrote an article in newspaper so we have to change this is "Gobar".

let me clear it, it was not any research,as I already mentioned it is the perception about different casts in India, they have mentioned about punjabis, sikhs gujratis ,kashmiries etc.......

I dont think there is nythin to b furious about it, as u all know this is wat we are all known for..........,and perceptions for communities are not made in a day they come out of experiences

Bhavna mujhe apni tareef sunni hai :D when u met me for the first time , tell me what impression you had :D

haan tab main gold medalist nahi tha , lekin ab hun :D Department Gold and Institute Silver from IITD! :)

I am not a fan of categorisation of people! Each one is unique and we must all do our best!

Yeah, I don't think we are beating our chests like furious gladiators. A national newspaper should have no place for an individual's perceptions stated without any logic or caveat. At best, they can say that they did a survey and that's what the general perceptions are. Making ridiculous comments about communities (not specific to Jats) is not my idea of responsible journalism. The last thing we need to do is to analyse ourselves over someone else's stupid comments.

oh God! they wrote it this way only,n wot do u mean by responsible journalism????, they dont have any grudges against any particular community,n again this is not a new thing.............we r percieved that ways only, better we not blame it on the newspaper or movies.........some traits are hereditary, but if these traits are not4 gud, they can b surely changed.......n its our responsibility to change the perceptions like this n not to make the perceptions ......:Dreality as we r doing here

These perceptions won't change... :)as ppl r never so analytical .and not everyone is so judgemental...likhne vale no bass purane baat dauhrai haii..apne traf se kuch nhi socha..they just go the easy way ...of passing the oldest point of views without using their own brains.....shyad hum log bhi dossre communities ko lekar aise perceptions rakhte hai..jo abhi tak badle nhi hai .:confused:TOI padha chodne se bhi kuch nhi hoga...we shud just focus on us ....and we all jats r well aware wat we r how we do ......
More often such point of views r developed by the kind of ppl we meet..gud n bad behaviours r not given only by the community ..but it depends on many factors ...like family fren n social circle n all....n so on

We can have a lenghty debate about what responsible journalism is (not the point of discussion here). However, there should not be (I hope) any debate on what it is not. Foul-mouthing (clearly the comments you pasted can't be considered as positive or even unbiased) ANY community without a reasonable context (like it being a funny take on castes) on a national newspaper can't be termed as responsible journalism. I don't really know the context and hence I can't comment on the article as such. IF the comments have been made without the right context, they are worthy of ridicule. They are certainly not worth the paper they are written on- so not sure why it evokes the "oh we are hurt, but we are like this only" kind of feeling. It would be even worse to argue about changing ourselves and/or changing the perceptions ON THE BASIC OF SUCH AN ARTICLE (Stressing the caps as I have no problem if you had argued for change without using this article as basis).

In the worst case the author can actually be accused of indulging in casteism- can you imagine someone writing in TOI that Dalits are dirty, frail and black- and the ruckus that would cause. You can find lots of people who hold that perception as well.

Nice example.

Jab tak hum khud apni zuban, apni jaat, apni culture ko respect nahin denge, nobody in the world will respect us.

kai jat proudly kahte hain Hum to jat jaise lagate hi nahi hain, humen to log punjabi samjhte hai?????

This is the online copy of the article but its bit different u cann't find the line metioned by Reekha in her first post that was only in the hard copy of the news paper which i saw yesterday. But this was the theme of the article and there was another line for Delhites that people are Materlistics, dishonest and so on.
meine bhi padha tha

isme dilli walo jato ko to aur bhi jyada saraha gaya hai

waise ye article logo ke mindset ke baare mein hai ki kisi naam ko sun ke logo ke man mein kya aata hai.Same things applies to us also

Bihari sabd sun ke man mein kya aata hai????
Ya Pakistani????

logo ki thinking change ho rahi hai. with growth of industrialisation mind sets are changing as people are coming in contact with one another.

Satyam ke farzi pane se bahar ki duniya ke logo ke mind mein indian ku chavi bani hogi wo hum samajh sakte hain.

Guys there is the option in that link you can put ur comments so that writer of the arlicle can see the reviews so if you want you can put your comments overthere.

Hi All,

I think the title of thread is not appropriate at first place, cuz its not branding rather its about popular stereotypes of India. Even I've read the article and if you go thro' that you'll realize that TOI guys were not targeting Jats or passing any derogatory remarks rather the article was about popular stereotype image of different communities not only Jats. Mind you they also discussed about South Indians, Biharis, Bangalis, Punjabis n Delhites etc.

As for Jat stereotypes, I'm kinda concur with the author's words ... 'Jats-All Brawn,no brains, foul mouthed and aggressive' whats wrong in that? Jats r strong well built, they've gud brains but keep aside when they become furious, 16X2=8 all say that, Man-Brain=Jat, Foul mouthed ya they are and as for chivalry, they are polite but not formal n often due to their rough accent it looks they are not, and aggressive huh u provoke them n face the consequences .. even if u ask anybody around about Jats am sure the answer ll be the same.

As for movies are concern, nowdays Jats are portrayed more of nonsense behaving humorous characters but earlier it was different story altogether, if u happen to watch few of Dharmendra classics like Ghulami, Bantwara etc then u'll feel real gud as these movies portrayed the real struggle of Rajasthani Jats at that time with Rajputs n Baniyas, specially Ghulami is a must see every Jat should see it . :)

So all in all I didnt find anything derogatory in the article, instead of bashing TOI guys we should work something constructive to break the stereotype image of Jats which depicts only the negative image, I don't need to tell here about the positive traits of Jats, do something to let the world know that Jats are Alpha humans and infact we're !

Cheers!

Rock on

'A car have to look like a car and a truck like a truck so a jat have to look like a jat' - Not everyone can agree with this statement !

Being a Jat doesnt means that you have to be tough looking & rough speaking all the times. :o Its good not to shy away from one's basics, but at the same time its very very important to take into cognisance the environment & people around !

One should mould his way of talking & expressions having regards to the crowd he is into. Why to unnessesary grab attention by speaking or behaving out of the way? For you it may be just being yourself, but for others it will be obviously awkward as they may not be used to such behaviour & speech.

If you know how to speak properly in hindi apart from knowing your regional language then its always better to speak in the language of the people around.

I am not talking about the cases of winning any fight or frightening someone as someone mentioned. In usual course, its good to acknowledge the likings of the people around. Use of regional language just for the sake of it isnt appreciable at all places.

And excuse me, how this question of 'know your strength and let the people follow you' arose? Does the way of speaking determines or depicts your strength anyhow? Strength is not in trying to intimidate anyone knowingly ! Strength is when people regard you as a person who is competent and at the same time is flexible in his ways. Just sticking to something which may sound unpleasant to the crowd at large is not anything to be proud about

Hope you wont understand :D
