Can WORDS express our feelings?

Why don't you name and shame the esteemed gentleman? And then he might not be banned, but we can collectively do "hukka-paani band".

I use cuss words amongst friends or when they are required (like in a fight). You might even use them in some public forums where you know that the audience are your peers. But definitely not in a diverse platform like JL. And on a PM to an unknown female is right there at the intersection of sickness and cowardice.

well u aptly described my feelings on the topic....

n the esteemed gentleman's name is Mr. Navdeep Chahar
n he has an id by the same name...but till now he has never posted on ne of the forums...i guess he just comes to the chat n leaves.....

I completely agree with Kapil and believe that such people should be brought in front of all so that the masks of gentility that such people otherwise wear should be torned away and their real self is shown. And you have done the right thing Bhavna in naming that person.
One should have discretion enough to know what kind of words are being used and where and as i have said earlier in this thread abusive words are downright offensive and there is no need of them as our languages are so rich. One may express anything through them without falling short of words.

"WORDS" really express what we want them to, sometimes completely and sometimes partially, depending on the other person at receiving end. Everyone has a set of favorite words which they keep using more often than others. Some people love to use slangs and JL is also experiencing such members:o Do moderators notice them/ don't notice the at all or Ignore them after noticing. What hurts is that members like Shweta get BANNED permanently and ABUSIVE NERD still survives:mad: Shweta never abusive or never used SLANGS may be she tried to ARGUE LOGICALLY WHICH WAS UNDERSTOOD ILLOGICAL. Her ban might be lifted rather than having an Abusive nerd, which most of you have an idea who i'm referring to:)

Members, i've noticed many a times in real life and here on Jatland too, people using slangs. The words like> WTF/ M*F*/ Kameena/ A$$/ B*C*/ M*C*/ C* etc. etc. Can user of these words tell that why do we use such words? Are we short of vocabulary? Are you short of expressions? Or do you doubt our capability of writing skills or communication skills. Is it that you give up so easily WHEN YOU HAVE TO WRITE SOMETHING BAD....these words easily creep up one's mind and give A RAPID SATISFACTION of EXPRESSING THE BEAUTY OF YOUR MINDS? I noticed stronger the hatred stronger will be the SLANG.... but do these slangs really express the degree of serious thoughts you want to DELIVER. Do people ponder over the SELECTION of words before hit the "SUBMIT" key. Please share your views.

There is a famous saying, 'The language one speaks shows the real character of a person'. This fits perfectly here on social forums like Jatland and in real life. Doesn’t matter how soft spoken a person pretends to be but sooner or later everybody shows their real face in form of words they vomit out in frustration/anger/desperation/depression or whatever their state of mind.

Slang maybe further divided into two categories i.e. Soft slang and Hard slang. Soft slang contains the words and phrases which doesn’t sounds derogatory and even we can use them in our drawing rooms where our family members could hear that. Soft slang may contain the words/phrases like “what the hell”, ghatiya, kameena, kutta, Sala, sasura, crap, stupid etc. Hardcore slang don’t have any limits about the words and their meanings are totally unacceptable in a healthy society, leave apart the family.

I, personally, believe that the habit of using or not using slang depends on the family values by which a person is brought up. I would like to share a real time incidents to throw some light on it :

One day in my neighborhood, a guy was abusing his neighbor like anything, using all the liberty to practice each and every slang words/phrases he could use and his mother and elder sister were listening. You can decide easily what was his bringing up by his family when he couldn’t respect her mother and sister in the moments of anger.

No doubt that even in good families sometimes guys get to learn/use some sort of slang due to some company but that is immediately noticed by his parents and frequently asked “Where from you learnt these nice things?” He feels ashamed and that’s all.

During the last three years of membership here at Jatland I faced so many times with people of different intellect, calibers, tastes and languages (read as the language they use). There were so many craps i came across in chaupal who literally practiced each and every word they knew, for the females, in chaupal. I used to tell them how to behave till my last word I could speak. Doesn’t matter they realized or not but I assumed it as my duty to oppose this and that’s why I did that (without any consideration that those females knew me or not). Many of those females are still here who can confirm this if they want to.

There are lot of members who use slang in their posts for one reason or another. I assume it as they don’t have any valid argument to prove their point and in frustration they are using the slang. I immediately stop to reply them and move ahead. I remember, once or twice, a member abused me literally with some slang words but instead of replying there I just reported a bad post and moved ahead. That didn’t make me feel like a coward but I feel it is cowardice act to abuse someone on NET like greatest warrior but behave like a purring cat in real. How ridiculous it is?

To conclude, I would like to say that language used by a person is the real identity and upbringing of a character (with or without the company effect). A nice person would always talk with good words even in the fists of anger while a bad guy would talk rubbish even in most favorable circumstances.

The oRigIn of thEse bAd sLaNgs

I want to ask all members whether the slangs( abuses b****d, m******d etc.) are started by Jats and Punjabis ? Today even very high literates and talented person can be seen abusing to each other. I have heard from many ppl that most of the abuses have originated in JATs and pUnjabis.

Giving abuses is understood cool in our Jat society. Today situations have deteriorated so much that some Jat PPl start their conversation with these slangs. Ppl dont spare even their blood relatives while using these slangs. I feel very bad that the community which finds its origin in MAHABHARAT has fallen to such a level in communication.

Female members of the comunity are not far behind these days in using the slangs. I really got shocked when I saw a very high talented person who possess a good social status abusing his own blood brother. This has become a very general incidence in our society.

Most of the ppl keep the slangs handy and starts once they get chance. Reason of using this kind of terminology is Mounting pressures, stresse and being understood cool by peers.

Dear members I want to ask:-
1. Whether this kind of terminology originated from our society.
2. Whether you think that the person who use these is really cool and daring or consider slangs as natural behaviour of JATS.
3. Whether the slangs used by JATs are a big hindrance in becoming decent and civilised.....

Dont take offence and tell me that slangs are used by all and it is not only JATs who use them... other communities are just following us...as they think it cool and daring.....I am just showing you the mirror......you will hardly find any JAT who dont use any kind of abuse in conversation.

To conclude, I would like to say that language used by a person is the real identity and upbringing of a character (with or without the company effect). A nice person would always talk with good words even in the fists of anger while a bad guy would talk rubbish even in most favorable circumstances.

well said! I think those who use decent language even when angry are real gentlemen and of course really nice people!
