Chronology of Indian History --Newer discussions

Not sure what those lines are supposed to convey but I found this from Bhargava: "the Aryans originally lived in the valleys of the river Ghorband and Panjshir to the south of the Hindu Kush range... from this region one branch seems to have ultimately settled in the various countries of Europe, while another branch migrated to Saptasindhu" pg. 49, PL Bhargava, India in the Vedic Age: A History of Aryan Expansion in India, Upper India Publishing House Pvt Ltd, 2nd edition, 1971 (first published 1956).

Do you think this is the original place of the Aryans that you keep referring to as abode, as per Bhargava, who is a known invasion-theorist (although an internal invasion-theorist as opposed to external-invasion theorist).

I have another example from Bhargava regarding a conclusion using a RigVedic shlok and word, pg 236:

I think he is using the word svitniyebhih when referring to a shlok from RigVed I.100.18:

I found that particular shlok from online RigVed produced in Latin (link): http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/l...RV01.html#H100
From Latin - RigVed I.100.18 - sánat kṣétraṃ sákhibhiḥ śvitniyébhiḥ

When I looked it up in देवनागरी - RigVed I.100.18 above word in bold is actually: shvilyebhih (श्विल्येभि:)

Would they mean different things?

While we are on this topic, this link should not be missed. It prepares UPSC students for IAS and this page is for History for IAS Mains: Aryans and Vedic Period - Expansions of Aryans in India. I think they forgot to thank Dr Bhargava, when throwing light:

I went through entire thread quickly. This is what I got till now

- Rig veda time was around 3000 BC. No literature , inscriptions in the world apart from Rig veda corresponds before 2000 BC, iranian avesta describing arayans was around 1700 BC
- Rig veda hymns say that saraswati river was flowing while mahabharata says it started drying. Saraswati may be ghaggar or helmand (afghanistan) river and scientific evidences say that sarswati dried up/breaking around 2000 BC
- Original home of aryans was afghanistan and some of them migrated to east (puru/panchala etc) and few of them west wards.
- these people who migrtaed westwards again came in the waves of scythians and huna between 500 BC and 400 AD to eastwards (present india) and assimilated with the people, though they reamine densed in north west (punjab/kashmir) that's why they have brighter skin

there are still few questions unanswered

- As said by Narender kharab ji, migartion occured from west to east so does it imply that befoer rigveda around 8000 BC-10000BC aryans came from west and settled in Afghanistan, again migarted to west and then again came back later? so are we concluding teh original home of aryans at the abse of Rigveda which is the oldest evidence available?

- In the battle of ten kings, few tribes are mentioned, it talks about persian, scythian etc so looks like aryans were scattered in iran, afghanistan, india at that time and were finely connected with each other. what is the approximate time epriod of this war??

  • Bhalanas: Fought against Sudas in the Dasarajna battle. Some scholars have argued that the Bhalanas lived in the Bolan Pass area. [SUP][5][/SUP]
  • Druhyus: Some align them with the Gandhari (RV I 1.126.7).

  • Parsu: The Parśu have been connected by some with the ancient Persians.[SUP][7][/SUP]
  • Purus: one of the major tribal confederations in the Rigveda.
  • Panis: also the name of a class of demons; later associated with the Scythians.

Prashant,

I think you got some of it wrong. Originally the people we know as Aryans never migrated east from Afghanistan. That is the view of one scholar, Dr Bhargava, whose work I think is outdated, I even provided a shlok to illustrate that (but some over here think that he was right). Sarswati flowing uninterrupted is from RV VII.95.1-2, and we know that it started drying up around 3000 BCE so a timeframe earlier than this when it was flowing uninterrupted can be taken about composition of early books.

The episode of 10 tribes/kings on Parusni is from RigVed VII 18.5-17, which is considered early to probably middle of RV so anytime after 2 full books of RV were already in place. That is all that can be said about the time frame. Probably, westward migration of Aryans happened after this and they carried the memory of Saraswati with them and named the river which is found in Helmand now.

For a chronology of RV books, this is one of the links: http://www.bharatvani.org/books/rig/img20.jpg, look for Book VII in the list along with which river names are mentioned in which book (earliest are listed on top, later ones towards the bottom).

If you were to ask me, try this post #234, which provides lot more information overall:

http://www.jatland.com/forums/showt...er-discussions&p=330988&viewfull=1#post330988

If the question is how far did some of these Aryans go westwards and carry their ideas, S Kak provides some evidence about it:
http://www.ece.lsu.edu/kak/Akhenaten.pdf

Going a little outside of the topic under discussion - Where does Haryana fit into this? We find following descriptions: vara-a-prithvyah (best place on earth), nabha prithivyah (center of the earth) in RV III, and in post-vedic it was called brahmavarta, and holy Kuruksetra of Tirthayatra Parva of MahaBaharat.

Above views rest on the current knowledge of RigVed that come to us from a version of RV which was presented by Sayan in 14th century CE. If any older manuscript of RV is found with different shlok or maybe even previously unknown sections of book/s are discovered than that will require reinterpretation. Any newer interpretation of current material with better evidence is always welcome.

As always, I stand to be corrected.

If I may in all humilty suggest, it is time to to a break from this discussion.

There has been enough to and fro.

The essential points have been highlighted, and nothing is to be gained by proving the opponent wrong.

The material and the direction of further study needs to digested more thoroughly than I have seen so far.

There are other more pressing matters.

One being the current matter of the Sahakti Vahini petiition before the Supreme Court to ban Jat Khaps, and demonize the jat community.

If we are not careful the jats will end up being designated as a ' Criminal community' remniscent of the' criminal tribe' notifications by the British.

That tag will have the stamp of the Supreme Court and that stigma will be well nigh impossible to undo, and will destroy the Jat community. As it is many jats run from their identity and hide from being seen as Jat.

The attention of historians should now focus on developing material to address the petition, and correct media perception.

The Final hearing is scheduled next week

I will suggest a break for 30 days

Warm Regards

Ravi Chaudhary

Friend many pertinent questions have been brought to fore by you which will necessarily prove to be path breakers in the days to come because Afghanistan Area mentioned by you comes as another stage for the ever expanding Aryans from their original abode.

But in view of the suggestion of our Senior friend, Sh. Ravi Chaudhary, I give a stop to the discussion for the time being with an assurance that many good points would be discussed threadbare when we take up the discussion.

Kindly bear with us the interruption and contribute to Khap issue in a manner you think the best possible.

Regards and thanks..

It is often funny Rajpal ji that discussions on Indian History get into narrow lanes of creating a Jat history. This is highly delusional. I would rather suggest that Jats as ethnicity should be examined under comparative analysis in getting the truer sense of what most of the members wish to. I would strongly recommend that take a comparative study of Jats and the Punjabis or the Jats and the Pathans, and even the Jats and the Gujjars. Only then you will be able to get a logically contained thought process behind the narrative on Jats.

Ambrish

Why do you not write a paper on your chosen area of interest and post it for members benefit. We will appreciate that.

In the meantime, let us remind ourseves that this is a Jat history site, and it shoud be expected for us to study history with a Jat lens and develop a Jat perspective.

Any thoughts on the Shakti Vahini petition and how we can counter that? There is a thread in the current affairs section

I suggest a possible survey of the term 'Jat'. This is not history, it how the peoples today see their history that makes all the difference. The way Afghans know, or the Iranians know. I for my part know that there is very little on this matter. When doing a comparative analysis we dont necessarily shrink our own space and in fact there is demand for more space that self-explanation might need. Therefore, I recommend because there are continuities of trend which are no later explored than the bardic history of 300 years back. I would rather believe that living memories can be a great source of reinterpreting the past.
One of the most important debates that can be raised in context of Jat history is that whether this is term closely associated with the nomads or the people in settled agriculture. This question is one of the sources to Mahabharata war. And, let me tell you that there is an important conference going to be held in Kazakhstan on the Nomadic Asia. All Jat history traces these lands as their origins yet we have rarely identified the reasons how those are different from our present environs. I suggest we must start a section on Geography and Culture of Central Asia and lets make a modest beginning in rexploration of these lands.
Yes, I am indeed into writing but unfortunately this area is on the periphery of my domain, but surely I have this in mind for few year down the line. I am sorry I have not followed the Shaki Vahini petition case. But, let me check it, if it interests me.
warm greetings and regards,

Most of the work on the court case is happening outside JL. Different groups of people are taking different actions. I can send you my submission, if you are interested, that will perhaps be used by someone from Khaps side. There was also some discussion on JL initially on the following threads:

Jats Gujar aur Jat Pathan ke baare me padhne ya samjhne se kya haasil hoga aap kuch vistar se batayen. Puri baat samajh mey nahin aayhi.

Kripya yah batane ka kaht kijiyega ke jo oldest form mein aaj Rig Veda uplabha hai, uska antim swaroop aap kis kaal sima mein manate hain aur kyon ?

Rigved ka sankalan jab bi hua us ke baad usay bahut aitihat se panditon ne yaad rakha. Bahut jabardast bhasha vigyan ki takniken apnayi gayi jiske kaaran is kitab me ek svar ka bhi antar nahi aaya.

Apke anusar Uprokat 4 links padhen, aur vishya 'Iti Sidham!'

No, it is not so easy to conclude the knotty issue so convincingly without full discussion based on historical research methodology as none is ready to buy your theory that Rigaveda came into its present final shape c.3000 B.C.
Aap kuch praman dijiye ki ki aapke ke pass aisi kaun si research methodology hai jiske madhya najar aap bold me likhe hue shabd kah rahe hain .

Kripya Ravi ji dwara diye gaye sujhav per gor pharmayiaga, yeh bachkani posts se aap kya gyan dena chahte hain. Vedon ke Antim Swarup ka samay aur aap kahan se kahan bhatkte phir rahe ho ! Agar aap ke paas swal ka jawab hai to 30 din baad hum is per charcha ke liye tayar hain; tab tak humen muafi de dijijiyaga !

Kya aap vigyan ko nahin maante hain? Bhugarbh vaigyanikon ki baat per aapko kyon sandeh hai?

Agar aap charcha ko viram dene ke parsh mein nahin hain to kripya ye batane ka kast kijiyaga kee Kis bhugrabha vigyanik ne ratha mein chadha ke aryaon ko purva se paschim mein ya paschim se uttar mein ya dakshin se purva mein bheja hai aur kab .

Bhugarbh vaigyanik rathon ke baare mein adhyan nahin karte hain. Unka shodh nadiyon aur bhutal ke baare mein hota hai. In Vaigyanikon ne Saraswati nadi ke upar shodh kiye hain aur unke nishkarsh pehle prastut kiye ja chuke hain jis se saaf jahir hai ki Rgved ki rachna 3000 BC se pehle hui hai. Abhi tak aapne koi aisa shodh prastut nahin kiya jo is baat ke viprit ho.
