Don't be judgmental. Discussions are not about you and me, its about the idea. I expected the discussion to raise in level and intellect. You gave away. My points may be irritating you. I am and will always be jat supporter. Don't need a certificate.

Prashant bhai - Its true Jat reservation isn't a panacea for the upliftment of the community. There's a long distance to cover before we can proudly say the community is developed economically, socially and intellectually. But reservation to an extent can make that distance shorter, as we have seen for other communities who have availed this benefit.

As I was discussing with Samar - reservation is not a crutch or a govt aid for Jats. Its a confidence building measure that will lead to role models becoming beacons for the youth of the community. In every community you need contemporary role models. Imagine the number of role models when our brothers join civil services or elite medical and engineering institutions.

I did an MBA because my maternal uncle whom I idolized as a kid became the first in our family to do it. That is how inspirations are built. Yes, we have a proud martial and honorable history, but you can't always look towards the past. Your future is decided by your present and reservation is the need of the present.

In a perfect world, we won't need any reservation and we should we able to compete with every candidate of any background. But the world isn't perfect and our youths are competing with those who have benefits like reservation or have a elite family history. So in an imperfect, flawed world, we should make use of whatever advantage we can get to make it a level playing field.

P.S. If you find time, search my initial posts on JL. They were exactly like yours (perhaps even longer!) and vehemently opposed reservation. But slowly with time, I understood the context and the varied perspectives to this issue.

I think reservation for jats is completely unfair and can't be justified. I want to bring the following points in the discussion.

1) Are we socially deprived?

The answer I feel is a big NO. A jat has always been proud of calling himself a jat which is not the case with other castes in OBC list.

2) Are we economically weak?

We had always been land owners, zamindars and kings, who had been providing employment to other castes through out the history. Consider the example of jats of Delhi, the price of land is so high there that almost everyone is a croepati.

3) Are we educationally weak?

We have lot of people reaching high posts in all walks of life. But there are still a lot of jats who don't get good education, this was even the worry of Sir Chhotu Ram in 1920s. However, jats have all the means to get good education. Lack of education is not forced on us by any one its a choice.

If we are not socially, economically and educationally backward on what basis we accepted this reservation. Sir Chhotu Ram would have been very UNHAPPY AND ASHAMED on this decision of the jat community. We have gone against his vision for jats "Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqder se pehle, Khuda bande se ye poche bata teri raza kia hai". He graduated from St. Stephan's College, Delhi University (topmost college in India) and held several high positions on the basis of his talent not because of any reservation. Many of us today are in good colleges and at higher posts not because of reservation but due to hard work.

We have violated the Kshatriya philosophy of sacrificing for the weak. Today, we are pretending to be weak ourselves and asking others to sacrifice for us.

Where is our honor and pride my friends?

Many of us say, several other forward casts have got reservation than why not we. Shouldn't we set an example by declining the reservation? Shouldn't we start a movement against all type of caste based reservation? Shouldn't we vouch reservation only for the economically weak irrespective of cast. We should portray such high moral standards that the rest of people in the country cite us as an example. Isn't that the vision of our great forefathers? Wouldn't our children be proud us for this sacrifice?

We have lost more than we have gained from this reservation.

Thank you for bringing the thread back on track, Vipin.
Another angle to look at is, the opposition of this reservation by other castes and thus, the possible set back to Congress.
Yesterday there were such protests in Bhiwani and I am sure at other places too. These people might harm Congress prospects- esp Yadav votes as they have been the biggest beneficiary of OBC reservation. See the news below:

Kuldeep Bishnoi is mostly behind all these paid protests during the reservation fight and after it.

Takleef ye hai ki vo faida mere desh kisi aur jaruratmand ke hise ka hai. Bus yahi baat hai Bhai. Jab aim hi galat ho to jeet asal me har hoti hai.
Jarutatmand jaat bhaiyo ko reservation jarur milna chahiye.

Another thing which we can do to be different from the rest of the OBC is to voluntarily give a time frame for stepwise removal of reservation for jats.
Say 10-20 years. What do you feel is that enough to bring the downtrodden jats on an equal platform?
