Earlier in Oct there was news that National Commission on other Backward Classes, is surveying Jat Gotra to whom reservation may be granted as per the list provided by Haryana Govt to Centre.
Now the govt of haryana urged Central Govt reservation should not be based on Gotra but it should be for all Jat based cast.
CHANDIGARH: Haryana government has urged the Centre not to include gotras of jats to give reservation to the community in jobs and educational institutions, saying that the quota to them under OBC (other backward class) should be given on the basis of caste.
In a communication to the Central government on Wednesday, the state government said there was only one word, that is 'jat', to identify the community in Haryana.
A few months ago, the Centre had asked Haryana and other states about variants used by jats so that the members could be identified in the socio-economic caste census (SECC). According to sources, the state had then confirmed 175 gotras of jats from a list sent by the Central government.
However, the state government has now sent another letter to the Centre informing that the previous letter may be considered as withdrawn. Quoting a survey conducted by Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak and Haryana Backward Classes Commission, the state government mentioned that jats consist about 25% of the state's population.
The state government mentioned that the survey was not conducted on the basis of gotras and variants, adding that the data was collected on the basis of caste. When contacted, Haryana's principal secretary (welfare of SC/BCs) P K Das told TOI that the state has mentioned its point of view in the letter sent to the Centre.
Jat leaders from Haryana had expressed anguish over the recent developments, stating that the issue of reservation was unnecessarily being complicated in the name of gotras. "There are more than 4,500 gotras of jats. Any reservation on account of such a huge number of gotras would only complicate the matter," said Sube Singh Samain, spokesperson of Rastriya Sarv Jat Khap Panchayat.
However, Haryana officials said they had not initiated the issue of gotras and had only responded to the queries of the Centre in the matter. Sources said that the issue of gotras was first discussed in a meeting called by Union ministry of social justice and empowerment and attended by officials of Haryana,
Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in July.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, Kumari Selja and V Narayanasamy, is now likely to recommend to the Union cabinet the course of action to the adopted for determining the eligibility of jats for the central OBC list, sources said.
