It is but obvious that Gen VK Singh would not have raked up any of the issues that he actually raised had he been given an extension of a year of service based on the lesser age which he later proclaimed.
It is so very unacceptable and incomprehensible that a 17 year old boy who has throughout studied in an English medium school would fill his age on the higher side in the NDA admission form and that too he being the son of an army officer and during the later years of service contend that his age was actually less and wrongly filled in the admission form. He or for that matter any person cannot and should not be allowed to take advantages of both the situations - Stating higher age to get admission/entry and later on statng lower age to get extension of service. You can't have the cake and eat it too.
The later part of Gen. Singh's tenure has been mired in witchhunting and mud-slinging both within and outside (Political) establishment. I would not have preferred to use the word for any soldier, but Gen. Singh's conduct has been nothing more and nothing less than that of an opportunist who tried to project himself as a whistleblower when his wishes were not granted by the political establishment.
The castiest allegations put forward against Gen. Singh are very serious and need to be further taken seriously as they would if found true have a very damaging effect on the cultural and unblemished fabric of the armed forces which have largely been apolitical. Gen. Singh targetting Gen. Tejinder Singh and Gen. Suhag clearly brings into focus and to the fore Gen. V.K. Singh's vindictive attitude towards a particular community.
