Can we see Past Events?

Haan yaar. Good point. Interesting to learn what you did with the candle.
I tried to use my will power for other more mundane purposes...like
chorree patana :D ;) Tu faaltoo mein candle kyun bhujha raha tha ? Hun ?

Hahahaahahah Bhai faltu mein candle nahi bujha raha tha. But you know that it was just a starting but i didn't had time to proceed further. So i quit this practice.

Vijay,

Man has always been fascinated to know about his future and not so much about his past. Now wonder we have so many fortune tellers and not past tellers on the streets. Things like Time machines make a good topic for discussions and nothing more. Concepts like Time Machine are nothing but another way of selling the concept of immortality.

RK^2

So, u think that the great scientists like Minkowski, Novikov or Stephan Hawkins are/were just fortune tellers who spent all their lives in the research in scientific matters.

Do u have any technical thing to deny these facts or have just a philosophical point of view only.

We may be spending more time on past but pay more money to know/ correct our future. No wonder one finds people with gem stones almost on every finger of rich people. There might be more historians in universities but certainly none running a shop on high street...No one will pay a penny to a history teller on road side where as people will que for a fortune teller..

RK^2

I suppose we are discussing here a technical issue but not a social thing.

The concept of time travel is fascinating no matter what. To me "time
travel" is the real interesting issue...not so much as "seeing past events".

Seeing light coming from the stars after several years is interesting I guess.
But is that any different than watching a movie or documentary ? Isn't
a movie or documentary really captured light ? ...Perhaps I am stretching
it but I think the parallels are there.

I think similar reasoning can be applied to the written work. As well as audio
mediums.

What would be interesting is being able to change the past,
or step in and influence the future. We could experiment with history
until we get it just right! But if we could *ALL* go back and start
changing, I wonder what would happen.

Trying to make sense of all the material on time travel, worm holes and so on
is a daunting task. Just trying to understand the definition of time
is hard.

Prof. Novikov ( Soviet Union ) worked on the comcept of time travelling and was doing reseach but i don't know if that research is still on after the decline of Soviet Union.

In US too research is still going on but there is also an argument in social circles that what if a person travel into past or future and change his destiny ? Is that possible and if possible than whether it is good or bad for the mankind. As u know nuclear power was invented for good prospect but that used for the bad purpose too.

We human being like to live in fantasies and even scientists know that. Producing theories and then creating real life situations are two very different things. .... One can produce a theory for almost anything and that does not mean it can produce practical solutions. Egyptians learned the art of creating mummies thinking one day dead will come to life....

RK ji,

For a moment, imagine yourself in Akbars' time(I will give you my time machine to travel back). And now just try to explain the folks in that timeperiod about cellphones, computer, air conditioner, airplanes, spaceships and that we can travel to moon and other stars. They will laugh at your fantasies too just like you are doing now..

I am not saying that time machine is really a practical theory but after knowing what man has done in last 100 years, I have stopped saying that something is impossible or a fantasy. Talking about egyptians, why not talk about pyramids too which they made. Its still a mystery that how the pyramids were so accurately mapped to the various stars and constellations in the sky. Pls go thru this link and you will know the depth of pyramids science:

http://www.infinitetechnologies.co.za/articles/thegreatpyramid.html

As for the statement that man has always fantasized about future and not past, just tell how would you know bout Ramayan, Mahabharata and our ancient culture if it was not for the fact that we are equally or rather more equally interested to explore our past. Science was also pretty advanced during the time of ramayana which is all documented specially the vimanas technology. Check this article on vaimanik shastra by a scientist of Aeronautical Society of India :
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vimanas/vimanas.htm#menu

Rather than debunking any scientific theory, it would be better to think on those terms and figure out the possibilities. Still there is no harm in going to a Pandit with a tota to know your future if that sounds more fascinating to ppl :)

If you have pointers to the book by the monk or yogis on these
issues, do pass them on.

Hi Raj,

You can download some of Lobsang Rampa's book from here:

http://www.lobsangrampa.net/lobsang_rampa.html

I would recommend 'The Third Eye', 'Cave of the ancients' as first to be read.

And one more I really liked is by Swami Muktanand - Play of Consciousness: A Spiritual Autobiography. In this book he lists varios stages of meditation and what happens when each chakra is opened. Though I don't really have faith in today's so called swami's, if whatever is written in this book is true, then we have really achieved nothing compared to the powers hidden in our body and nature. I am sure, those who have medidated seriously and not just for fun must have realised that for sure there is something which is there and needs to be discovered. You feel that extra power when you do that. But unfortunately we all get lost in our daily activities and never reach that stage. May be some day will come :)

Thanks Prashant. I just read a few chapters of "The Third Eye".
Seems very interesting.

As always, it becomes a matter of what to believe and what not to.
I guess the cynicism/skepticism in us never dies unless we experience
something ourselves.

But these books definitely seem like good reads. The reviews on
Swami Mukananda's book were very positive too.

Raj, Looks like all good things in life are hoax  ab khud hi meditation aur astral travel karke sach pata karna padega.

But must say, his imagination and way of writing is really good. I hope Muktanand's autobiography is not false as well as that was really mind blowing too..though I know some folks in my close relation who have told similar experiences at a particular stage in this..

I have read enough on Time travel and the theory behind. I spent good one and half year doing research on the origin of Universe, Big Bang and continous theories by Gamov and Hoyal etc. Having read and discussed this topic quite often I thought of taking it lightly, but got ridiculed for my light humour. I notice that some of you are experts on the topic and seem to know the underlying Time Traqvel Theory well. Hope you know what lead to the concept time ( both negative and positive)? ..If there are positive and negative times then there has to be zero time also. What does zero time mean ? If time is frozen, let us say today, will that mean we will never age and die ? I will invite the experts from you now to begin from here.

Well RK Sir,

I didn't expected such a childish query or question at least from you. Do i have to mention that according to Einstien's Theory of Relativity everthing is relative and nothing is absolute. Time is relative too. How can u assume it absolute zero ?

What we are talking about moving backward or forward in time which is relative to the present time.

I find some famous quotes of some world known personalities of their respective fields that went against them. So, just think what is possible or impossible :

"Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible." (Lord Kelvin, president, Royal Society, 1895)

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." (Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943)

"There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home." (Ken Olsen, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977)

"The telephone has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us." (Western Union internal memo, 1876)

"Airplanes are interesting toys but of no military value." (Marshal Ferdinand Foch, French commander of Allied forces during the closing months of World War I, 1918)

"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?" (David
Sarnoff's associates, in response to his urgings for investment in radio in the 1920's)

"Professor Goddard does not know the relation between action and reaction and the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to react. He seems to lack the basic knowledge ladled out daily in high schools." (New York Times editorial about Robert Goddard's revolutionary rocket work, 1921)

"Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?" (Harry M. Warner, Warner Brothers, 1927)

"Everything that can be invented has been invented." (Charles H. Duell, commissioner, US Office of Patents, 1899)

So ? What does it prove ? Opposit also has been equally true whereby many established myths were demolished. Do you think Time machine theory is the final word?

Being childish is also relative my friend. If time can move back and forth; present, past and future are also relative. If one has the control over moving back and forth, there is no reason that he/ she should have control on stopping anywhere on the time track. You have the freedom of choosing that relative zero anywhere on time track and then tell me if you can sit there for ever, which according to Time Travel Theory should be possible. Don't quote others now. I want hard theory and proof from you.

Ya Sir, being childish is realtive too. hahahahha.

Ok lets come to the point. The basic concept of the time machine is that we can choose a relative zero anywhere. Yes, that's the point. if we move back in past or in future then it's upon us when we want to come back.

I am not going to quote anyone now but just my post no. 7 on this thead and and put up your comments here and we can discuss that further.

I want to discuss it in technical terms not in social or philosophical terms.

To fir kijiye shuru discussion huzoor...deri kis baat ki hai...Humne aapse sawal kiya thaa...tell me if Time machine will make us sit at a particular point of time in a particualr time frame? Forget about social implications now as we are discussing science first. We will come to social aspects once we have understood the concept.

RK Sir, i started it long way back in post no 7 of this thread but u just replied diplomatically there. Plz just check and comment in technical terms
.

I am game ! :)

Bhai Jaan Diplomacy and science don't go together. Based upon whatever you described in post number 7, please ek baar itna aur bata do bas ki Time Travel machine se hum ek point of time par ruk sakte hain ya nahi... In theory of relativity if space can be curved, can time also be curved? When we talk of time moving back and forth, does it move in a straight line or not? Trust me now I am very serious on this debate and no more laughs and diplomacy..

I never believe in diplomacy.

Ek time par rook sakte hai ke nahin...... what that mean in scientific scenario.................... you want to remain younger forever ? if that so.................... my answer is NEVER

Theory of relativity shows that both space and time are curved. If we can move forward and backward in space we can move forward and backward in time too. Einstien's theory can't deny that fact by any means.
