Happy independence Day . . .

Uncle jiske kohni par chot lagti hai usi ko dard ka maloom hota hai,

To aaj hum logo ko pata nahin ke yeh ajadi kaise mili thi, kitni yatnaye sahi thi savtantrata senaniyo ne, tab jakar hume ajadi mili thi.

Anway aap sabhi logo ko savatanrata diwas ke uplakshya par hardik subhkamnyae...

Dear Deswalji

I agree with most of the things. At that time at least the enemy was clear to all. But now it is very difficult to locate the real enemy and fight against that.
Some time back I composed a ragni on 15 th August I am putting it for reading and some points to ponder over on this occasion.

R.S.Dahiya

Independence day 1947

THE INDEPENDENCE DAY 1947

The independence day always brings fleetingly the memories of Independence day, 15 August 1947.I had already listened to the famous "Tryst with Destiny" speech by Pundit Nehru on the radio past midnight 14/15, the day dawned with, some thing new in the air, a never before sensation experienced by me, in my limited, seventeen years of life experience.

There was this flag hosting, with whole of the small town of Muzaffarnagar, congregating in the Company Garden, the venue. I do not recall the VIP who did the honor. What is clearly etched in my mind is the vision of the three girls singing the National anthem, under the Tricolour swaying in the mild breeze. As it happened, I instantly fell in love with all three of them, they appeared so special, so unapproachable and, clad in their white cotton sarees, so ethereal.

Years later did, I did happen to see one of my Independence Day loves in Lucknow University, where I was a senior student and she a fresher, but only from a distance. It was as well that I did not approach her, as it would have certainly broken the magic spell, the three had created that day, as they sang from the elevated stage.

How I wish for the same magic on this day once again and again!

Greeting all on this day 15 August 2007

Kuldip Nayyar's Article

.
An article by famous Journalist Kuldip Nayyar has appeared today (15 Aug. 2007) in "Dainik Jagran" which gives an interesting reading. It is reproduced below (the link would not work properly).

(Kuldip Nayyar)

1. What hurts me the most is that 15th august, 26th Jauary and 2nd October have become more of government celebrations with hardly any public involvement. If victory of Rama over Ravan is celebrated is Diwali by each and every Hindu, why same can not be done by every Indian about 15th August. Why can't we lit every home on the eve of 15th August, cook special food and send greeting cards like we do on Diwali? Instead of calling it independence day, why can't we call it India Day ?

2. No doubt, This is the day to take audit of what we have achieved and what we need to do in the coming years. Lot has been done and a lot more needs to be done. India has to achieve its rightful place in the community of nations at the earliest possible.

Greetings to you all on this great day. Take a pledge to make India a great nation once again in our life time.

At What Cost ?

14.5 Million people displaced.

Millions of Hindu / Sikhs / Muslims Killed.

Does anyone think about the poor souls who were the casualty of the independence / partition.

Any memorial or rememberance for the dead.

Think ??

Happy Independence Day today- 15th August. Well.. seems lots of wishes were sent yesterday for 14th, which is Pakistan's Independence day:confused:

Happy Independance Day

Most of us have sometime have doubt about the order of colours in our Indian Flag, many of us even do not remember our national anthem correctly  and the spirit of being Indian and love towards our nation is now just a matter of discussion.

But still we are proudly Indians ?

Hmm, although all those deficiencies could well be termed as shameful for any Indian, knowing that or not alone does not constitute the badge of honor of patriotism!

People like you and me for example have an even bigger sense of duty thatways, where it should not be just a 'matter of discussion' in our alien circles but being proud of what you are and what the Nation is in your heart and minds... because I agree while just 'talk' in itself is never enough, but it still is the first step in being aware, defensive, passionate, and emotional of your feelings towards the Nation.... and in making you understand deep down where you stand, when you are walking the walk, and talking the talk!

Having said that, let no Indian you meet ever again, who is ignorant of those simple things about the tricolour, national anthem etc. be ignorant anymore...make it your duty to correct them on the instant...and there and then, and educate them about it...and so why not try and turn it from being just a 'matter of discussion' on some blog like Jatland into something that is actually a matter of challenge for yourself (and for anyone else that is reading this!)

Bande Mataram!!! Glory to the Motherland...:)

Thank you for such wonderful reply! I completely agree with what you said! Unfortunately these feelings and emotions are from a Non Resident Indian!

I hope some day you and me would return back to India and implement these things and contribute to our country to make India the most powerful nation!

Many thanks once again

Oh sure Chhavi,...but then we (like you and me) may be NRI's but still Indian, ain't it?
Okay look, where I am trying to go with this is to say that no matter where we be, or what country, place, profession, home we adopt to be at...we shall always be Indian (and by that I don't mean about how 'we' ourselves feel...but more importantly even how anyone else here perceives us...) Always as an Indian only!
...So, we here share the same responsibility as any other local in India of doing everything honorable because it is directly related to how everyone perceives our great nation...

Infact what we can always learn from some of these other Nations is how to wear your own country's colors proudly anywhere...and the least we on the other hand can do is not to brow beat our own Country infront of outsiders and foreigners, and/or give them reasons or space to do exactly that infront of us, and then more importantly when we (or our kids) do go back to our soil; not wrinkle our nose at everything that supposedly insults our sensibilities....

Now of course there have been discussions here about the immigration and all that,...and so definitely do not want to start another similar discussion; all I wanna say is that...Not for a moment I forget or not consider myself the brand ambassador of everything Indian... sure I am here, but that is a minor detail to my mind, who says that since I moved out my responsibilities to the nation ceased?...

You know another thing why maybe a local in India is probably less given to rhetoric as compared to us NRI's? (and kinda referring back to your 'order of colours on the Indian Flag' discussion also)...that's because they experience it in an entirely different manner everyday...for a small example: apne gaon mein kitne hi aise parivaar honge jinhonhe iss desh par apne bete, peedhi dar peedi qurbaan kiye honge... jab kabhi Tiranga dekha bhi hoga to usae 'Shaheed' ke paarthiv shareer par dekha hoga...
now who would bother to know the sequence of colors? ...and would that make them less than any other Indian? Of course, No.

...and so on closing here is a song just for people like you and me......... :)

ae mere pyaare vatan, ae mere bichhade chaman
tujh pe dil qurabaan
tuu hii merii aarazuu, tuu hii merii aabaruu

chuum luun main us zubaan ko jisape aae teraa naam
sabase pyaarii subah terii
sabase rangeen terii shaam
tujh pe dil qurabaan...

Maa kaa dil banake kabhii seene se lag jaataa hai tuu
aur kabhii nanhee sii betee ban ke yaad aataa hai tuu
jitanaa yaad aataa hai mujhako
utanaa tadapaataa hai tuu
tujh pe dil qurabaan...

Chod kar terii zameen ko duur aa pahunche hain hum
phir bhii hai ye hii tamannaa tere zarron kii qasam
ham jahaan paidaa hue
us jagah pe hii nikale dam
tujh pe dil qurabaan!!!....................

Cheers!!! :):):)

Thanks again! I am person of few words and will share a typical punjabi saying " Tidd vich na gayiaan rotiyaan, teh saari gallan khotiyaan".

This below is translation in hindi

"Jis ke pet main roti nahin jaati, uske liye saari baatein bekaar hain!"

Jai Hind
