Is “Tuition” Necessary for Junior Classes?

Poverty???

It is not an issue so far as school education is concerned. Poverty did exist even during the Mughal period when 95% of Indian population was literate. "Poverty" is a concept given by Western economics. There is no definition of poverty - even a millionaire is "poor" compared to billionaires !

Well, that's weird. Deshwal sir, did you actually mean to say poverty is not an issue as far as school education is concerned???? Are you sure Sir??
Well in my opinion, the root cause for poverty is poor or no education. The other way around it true to a large extent too.

""Poverty" is a concept given by Western economics" ...can you quote some source here please?

And sir, I am not sure you are right here...I always thought a millionaire is "less rich" compared to billionaires. "Millionaires" and "Billionaires" terms represent the presence of money(whatever amount) and not the absence of it. So how can one say "poor" even while drawing comparisons???? You see, one got to keep an positive intent. :-)

Thanks,
Sumit

Deshwal ji, Iss aache tagge pe aur bhi kuch likhna hai manne ... par thoda tem ki bhajam bhaj si hai ... mada dat ke likhunga ... soch ke ;) hade dimag ka kaam hai ... ha ha :)

Deswal ji mentioned That " और विकसित देशों में आज भी ऐसा ही है । वहां तो ट्यूशन-कोचिंग के बारे में सोचना भी एक तरह का गुनाह है । "
It appears that Deswal Ji does not have first hand knowledge of the Western World. This tution is quite popular here too. The only difference is that it is not affordable by a common man. School education of India is the best in the world. A grade 12 student of India know much more than a Grade 12 student of North America. It is very easy to criticise any thing.

My friend criticism for the sake of criticism is no criticism.
Thanks.

Without going into details, I may mention that I have spent several years of my career in USA and many years in Europe too – and I have noticed that a 12th-class student of USA or Canada proves to be a more responsible citizen than his Indian counterpart. He may not be as brilliant at mathematics compared to an Indian who was forced to learn complex maths, trignometry and advanced algebra at his tender age, despite his taste and interest. In the West, such subjects are taught at Higher classes, rather than at middle classes as is the case in India. A school student in the US or Canada has more knowledge about his own country, its road-maps, locations and geography, system of government, basic facts about its armed forces and so on. He is also not forced to read English poetry of William Wordsworth or Shakespearean plays in his school syllabus which gives more stress on basic sciences and general knowledge. On the other hand, immediately on passing 12th grade, the Indian student suddenly finds his feet in deep water and a dark future ahead – he feels ashamed even after attaining 90% marks. Where is our young generation heading for?

The fact remains that in the West, primary school kids do not need tuition after school hours.

Cool to read the thread , along with the fun part , the discussion is going on smoothly !

Just to those who are really on the stress of the downside of country and system , it is after all not that bad as well.

And the emphasis should be on solution , and requires a positive attitude rather tahn saying " desh hi barbaad hai " !

Well i agree with the views of the author of the thread , even i believe that tuition should be done away at least till class 8th !

And i strictly dont believe in heavy workload of kids ! to quote my example : I was inducted in school at age of 6 ( much later than these days norms of getting a kid in school as soon as he is 3 years or so  ) ! Till 8th i was taught by my mom only ( She herself was only literate till grade 8th :), but she would just help me out as much as she could ) !

I had tuitions for about 2 months each in Science and MAths in 9th and 10th ( The idea was to excel , infact i used to sit down with my tutor and tried much difficult problems thatn my course at that time ) . Thats it ! Ofcourse 11th and 12th i followed intensive coaching in an coaching institute.

Thank god i never flunked :D

That seems to be the close to ideal scenario for me.

Again i agree on the point that western students seems to have lot more varied skills adding to their personality while compared to a similar one of India and vice versa when it comes to aptitude ( pure academic ) !

I think this diversity is complimenting and also it depends on person to pick up things !!!

:)

Now this, in my opinion, is absolutely correct. The teenagers in North America and most parts of Europe are more 'practically' prepared than ours. At the same time I feel that with globalization things are changing for better in India as well. We are, slowly but surely, becoming more competitive.

Thanks,
Sumit

There are not many cases where parents ask their kids if they really need a tution or not.

Most of the parents are unsatisfied with the performance of their kids , even if they are scoring good. Its all about getting unreal scores in this crazy world of competition.

The only criterion to judge a kid 'good or bad' is his/her scores.

No body cares about the interests and personality of the kids.

If this goes on and on 'Personality Development Tutions' will be the most important for Indian kids. They really need to do things outdoor.

Parents need to change their way of thinking now.

Nice topic !

I agree with Gagan that most of the parents seems not satisfied with their kids grades.... but want to add the term "relatively" here ...... as they always compare their kids with other kids ... and some of them 'ironically' take it as a status symbol that uska bachha mere bacche se intelligent kaise ?

Let them grow up themselves instead of forcing them to grow up.:)

India is still a developing country where resources are scarce and oppurtunities limited. So obviously competition is very high and whatever parents are doing, it is required for the better future of the kids. Once we have abundant resources and oppurtunities, things will late its own course and accordingly readjust themselves.

See the following artice for details:

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/...ix-injured-in-stampede-for-jobs-in-india.html

In summary a stampede occured on Feb 11 in one of the recruitement drive for 100 posts of cooks and barbers in CISF. More than 30000 people reached there for those vacancies.

At the end of the day, you would not like kids to point fingers at the parents and say that because you never wanted to spend money on tuitions therefore I could not do that well as I could have done.

I will tell you my story in brief. I was very sharp in studies and doing well then what I had thought. My parents are very happy too. I never had a tuition even for an hour in my life because I knew my parents could not afford it. But if they could have, then definitely I could have been more successaful in life today. I could have achieved more than those friends who were way behind me in studies but had plenty of resources at their disposal. Even today I do not feel satisfied because I have this feeling that I could not receive the education as per my potential. Believe me, these kids who are today feeling the weight of books will forget all this pain when they will become successful in life but if they have to stand in that line of 30,000 men competing for 100 odd jobs in CISF, then they will curse their parents for not doing enough.

.
It reminds me of an old film by Gulzar, 'Kitab' - which portrayed the mental tension faced by school-going kids due to excessive syllabus and exam phobia. The recently released film "Taare Zameen Par" also portrays a similar theme.

Tuition Not Necessary

Tuition is not necessary. Infact now a days it is FASHION. All parents wants to adopt this fashion. The parents do not want to spare time with their kids. Schools are also not taking care as they should. They are taking heavy fees but the type of homework they give to the kids are too heavy like their bags wight. Heavy word is used because the all things are heavy, weight of books, weight of addmission fees, weight of monthly fees all things are too heavy that parents are overloaded. So they utilize their time to earn more and more money so that all types of weight can be reduced.
"TUITION IS A TREND IT IS SOMEHOW NECESSARY FOR THE WEEKER STUDENTS BUT NOT FOR ALL."

@ Thread

As per my views tuitions are required only because of the loopholes in our academic system. Even our parents were students at some point of time but they never found it necessary to have tuitions the school coaching itself was sufficient for them. But now a days even teachers have stopped paying attention to students in school. So sometimes in order to cope up with the syllabus slow learners may need additional support but its not necessary. We can see that now a days tuition classes have became a fashion statement amongst parents. They love to boast about the money they have paid there and are in process of explaining to the world that how they are taking efforts to give best of the education to their kids...

No but then its not a choice anymore

Problem in getting kids in good school is not a problem just in India, its just about all over world, private or public. The world is so competitive now that you have to get extra time for your kids by a professional and I don't see any harm in doing that compared to half baked/educated moms trying their hands on the kids' home work or worse, kids have nobody to help them at home because parents are busy due to all the good reasons.

Let me ask you all, how many of you really don't beleive in tuition thing to the level that you yourself don't allow tuition to your kids?
