Racism, Safety and Wayout!

Deshwal Sir,
In my previous post , I have linked two reports where Aus. authorities accepting it as what it is. Criminal violence is being excluded. There are Chinese students more than the Indians they also work late nights etc why only Indian guys are being targetted? Why only at the land of Australia these things are more than frequent?

And thats precisely what makes you respect for their straightforwardness and honesty!
Samar, you come visit this country, maybe ,just once in your life and I promise you u will be pleasantly surprised
I came here with my own apprehensions and doubts,,but they simply bowled me over..amazing hospitality..and trust me..that was NOTHING about theirpersonal interests or to use/impress others..u can sense the genuine gestures of support and concern.

and yes, again, as far as AUS. authorities accepting officially that there ARE hints of racism, do u know, in the Rod Laver arena where a good Tennis match was being played, the NEPHEW OF THE P.M. KEVIN RUDD AND HIS FRIENDS GOT DRESSED AS IN KU-KLUX-CLAN , and shouted slogans of "Stop the racism against indians" and " "Let the refugees in" who come here illegally by boats every now and then..and I laughed.."did they really have to do it"
I dont think they have any personal agenda or get vote from Indians or mint money (as in indian politics)..instead they could have ended up alienating themselves from mainstream!

THATS PRECISELY WHAT makes me feel its so overhyped even by AUSSIES by their admission that there is so much racism that they have to demonstrate so strongly!
and thats precisely what makes me feel bad and unfairfor them

Trust me, the Aussies are the MOST SELF-DEPRECATING people in the world Ive ever seen
they condemn themselves so much that doesnt leave any scope for us condemning them.
beat that !!

Deshwal Sir,

To get the facts straight, the Chinese are WELL BETTER OFF, than their Indian counterparts,,some of them even wealthy than Aussies.
The Chinese chick 90 times of 100 would be dressed in high-end expensive attires, gives the usual aussie girl a run for their money regarding their dressing sense (yup...as long as they dont open their mouth lolz)
and usually whichever car makes my head turn is mostly with a Chinese in it!
probably something to do with Currency

n yeah, they RARELY work desperate overnights or live in dodgy ghettos.

.A small number of people, specially frustrated youths, mostly in their teens, indulge in this kind of activities and that too in a few suburbs only and from different ethnic groups.

Now question is why only Indian students and Indian taxi drivers are targeted?
There are about 45-50 thousand Indian students In Melbourne alone. I wouldn't have a precise figure but a rough estimate only. Many of them are married having their spouses work permit. So this figure is much hire.
There are about 5000 thousand taxi drivers in Melbourne. Out of this about 70% are Indians and majority of them are students.
A large number of them are not well versed in spoken English and fail to communicate properly with with their clients.
I don't have to explain as what type of people travel on weekend night in these taxis.

Secondly, most of the late night workers in supermarkets, restaurants, fast food outlets, pizza delivery call centers and security services etc are these young Indian students or their spouses

Cheers!
haha..right said Deshwal uncle..dont wanna get started on this one..
and most of the times m amazed at how TOLERANT people here are..giving them extra-extra-extra fair go and being non-judgemental even if the person sitting next to them is reeking with B.O. and being too loud, obnoxious or trying to rip them off,, lewd, lecherous or plain offensive
Ii wonder, if the Aus. media behaved the SAME as Indian clowns,,,they have a lot to report if they shed their humilIty and go ballistic..and I mean..A LOT!

Ok guys enough of ranting and rambling haha

someone said the percentage of Iindian students has declined..I reckon to 50% of wot was before..
Good then..wish it all happened 5 years ago...

because basically, if you come to Australia, come with a positive, hopeful and optimistic mindset..they are also humans like us..so what if the English ruled as decades ago haha.
I wish there was a compulsory test for assessing the mindset and beliefs before granting Visa.

To sum it up..DONT come to this country just for money/jobs/better opportunity ONLY.. come here if you REALLY feel like, and are happy to stay in that country and love their people instead of segregation and making your own groups/gangs, totally alienated from the countrymen,,stashing the $$s by dodgy ways
Coz if u are only after money and opportunity, but shun and condemn their behaviour or lifestyle, u would feel perpetually divided in ur mind and keep fighting with ur own self..leading to disharmony, bitterness and suppression.

so.. LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT...no-ones forcing u ..exit doors are open

god..m gobsmacked...uve fallen for the oft-repeated falalcy..the lines that have been beaten to death when you dont find any other logical things to say

Deepshi, probably i didn't put it clearly. Let me try again. I did NOT mean Australians ARE criminal. It would have been stupidest things to say. Bunch of ppls' behavior does NOT reflect the whole country. BUT as u said 'lines beaten to death' [which suggests the kind of perception/misconception ppl have in their mind for Ausies] and these media reports (exaggerated or not) of alleged racial attacks are NOT helping in eradicating that misconcpetion. Thats all i meant!!
Check again deepshi, I put three "laughing" smilies in that post #58 giving link to "Ausies number 1 in committing sins" coz these sort of reports are total crap.
i am really happy for that you found Australia extremely good. :-)

subsequent post i wrote only on these points:

1. Exaggeration /over hyping by media. (

2. SA and Aus Vs racism.

3. Respect/Protect International students OR Deny them Visa altogether.

Everybody makes his/her opinion by first hand experience, friends experience and media.
Sid said how i am sure about SA and Indians leaving there (probably his objection is more to word 'leper'), acquaintances (mostly from villages.. pooooorly educated, most of them doing drivers job and their 'stories'), one friend who got 'duped' by an immigration/travel agency,
Many Mallus in campus from far flung areas of Kerala and their version of SA.

Yet to heard people going to Middle East for PR or Studies. And hence, I repeat, most Indians going to SA are going for Money and leave in miserable conditions to save more and more!!

May be i am wrong..but thats what i've heard.

agree with u mis
i lived in melb. n find that place same
sometimes more safer than india
it is true abt racism but how much is that
just .01% n every community have that
we belong to high class in india otherwise they will know(who says abt racism in aus), wat racism is?
most people over here love to meet u n hear abt u n they behave very well
while thats not same in india, can everyone ask theirself that they never did anytype of racist activity in their life. every one did that, it might b small one but that doesnt make difference its still racism

At last I couldnt stop myself from writing in this thread (not writing anything politically correct though like everyone do but being an Indian who is Australian by nationality atleast I will have to acknowledge this topic) I want to say so much about wats happening and what should be done but shame it is a public forum.

I am pretty disappointed that Indian fellows here are the 'darpook' ones.
Jo India me pit-te the yaha bhi pit rahe hai bas yaha pit kar news me aagaye AR Jo India me auro nai pitte the ohh hade bhi chette sai.

Protest karne sab chale jate hai (result uska bhi kuch nahi nikalta kyoki koi accha leader nahi nai na hi koi follow up karne wala hai) lekin asli me help karne wale ik dusre ki kitne hai.

I have been to Melbourne twice and met so many indians strolling around and stuff nd believe me they were all complaining little bit**ches. Even I am no superman but I carry my pride and self esteem and would love to meet 10 more Indians like that here that will make me feel good.

Sunil, agree mostly with both your posts.

1. Why media doesn't report this and that should have nothing to do with this subject per se. Theoretically, one can object to any media report saying why is it reporting on THIS and NOT on THAT. Extending this logic a bit further, we can stop media from reporting on anything unless there is a consensus that it should be reported on; which should mean that nothing really gets reported...:). I do agree that focus of media in terms of topics it chooses is misplaced, but that needs to be highlighted systematically, not on a case-by-case basis.

2. The hype factor is definitely there. But that is how media works ANYWHERE in the world. It amuses me when some members start calling Indian media as clowns and Aussie media as paragons of virtue. Ofcourse, Indian media would hype this. Beat some aussies in India, and I will show you who is hyping that.

3. I doubt all incidents being reported in the media are incidents of racism. But, some would be. Hell, who were all those Indians who were marching on the Aussie roads some time back? They were protesting against racism right? Guess they may have felt strongly about it. Everyone is entitled to his opinions, but I don't get it when some people here are getting all jingoistic about Australia and ruling out possibility of racism carte blanche. Maybe you are assimilated enough to feel no racism, but there are definitely some out there who are feeling it. So with all due respects to your feelings for Australia/Aussies, please don't say the chance of finding a racist in Australia is zero (There is a non-zero probability for most things in life). And having a few incidents of racism makes no country racist, rather the acceptance shows how strongly they feel against racism (and there are Aussies who have accepted- full credit to them).

4. I personally believe that it is more likely to be a law and order issue. A criminal is more likely to attack an immigrant knowing that that guy has fewer options. And a criminal usually is devoid of any ideologies- even racism. Even in the case that the reason behind attacks is not racism, the hype and ho-hulla actually benefits ALL people of Indian origin (even those who don't feel it) as the pressure would be on the govt. to provide them with more security, which is never a bad thing.

http://news.oneindia.in/2010/02/01/knifeused-for-murder-indian-origin-taxi-driver-in-auckland.html
http://www.chilliguard.com/
So guys go for this or like this self defence equipments there. Your insult is whole India's insult there.

Deshwal Sir,
More than 81 Incidents cases have been reported last year. Tally has crossed over 100 in an year. To the against your hopes it has crescbdoed apparantely. Morover lets cut these incidents to half, is it not enough to establish the racism in the nature of Aussies?

Racism in OZ is a hot topic these days ! Everone has their own views. Here are mine based on real incidents in the past.

Is there racism in OZ? Yes there is. How much " I dont know". Different people have different experience in Australia but Racial discrimination can be in many form physical, verbal or hidden. Sometime verbal is worse than physical. If someone say " you f------ black c---" or bloody indian" in public and you cant do anything about it than something inside you dies. It hurt more than a few bruises on the body.

In white countries there are laws to protect you so you will only hear verbal abuses from drunk people or very frustrated people and often you will find them in group . Hatred towards Indians is growing day by day in OZ( I have many white aussie friends as well). This was told to me by them. Main Reason: In every job they have to compete with Indians. Indians are taking away jobs sitting here and sitting there as well (outsourcing). They cant tolerate a black man managing them. Thats why you willl hardly see any indian in senior position in aussie companies. But if you are traveller from a white country and know a little bit you will be offered sponsership and high bucks without having as much qualification as Indians. This is hidden racism which mostly you will see in jobs and service. Like if an Indian taxi driver call police they came too late. Case is different if an aussie speaking call the cops.

My friends parents used to walk home from their son's restaurant. One night some teenagers called them " Look beggers are going". They only experienced this once in there 8 months stay but that changed the whole perception towards a country. While I was there one day on my way to gym ( at 2 PM) some guy honked at me and laughed ( which is considered very rude/insulting in west). One day on train we were called black ****.

Mostly NRIs from australia will say there is nothing, no racism at all. Yes they are talking about phycial racism(attack) which they hardly experience because they dont work late and mostly have their own transport. Most of them have probably experienced hidden racism. If something like this happens to you once, will that change your perception as well??

These things can happen there and if you are really unlucky sometime it can get worse. You can be looted, beaten and chased espcially at night. Avoid city areas and western suburbs at night. Many of these incidents happened for fun because they wanted to enjoy "curry bashing".

Physical Racial discrimination happens mostly at night: Possible victims : students working late at night who doesnt have their own transport.

Verbal Racial discrimination can happen anytime: Possible victims : anyone

Hidden Racial discrimination mostly happen at work places or in services: Possible victims : working class and other user of services.

Whatever your say is I feel safe walking on a street in New Delhi at 3 AM but in Australia I dont. Thats just my perception and I agree that perception can be different than reality but still--------

n trust me my only and experience since years of so called "racism" was when I was standing at a tram stop, there was an ad. from Worksafe displaying a beaten Indian n saying "speak for ur rights at work" or sumthing like that..n mind you this ad had the same message displaying pics of anglos as well..
so I noticed on the poster displaying the indian, someone had scribbled "thats beacuse I eat smelly curry with my hands"..but that was wiped up and cleaned next day
and that was that...nthing else

now Australia is not a heaven..but not too far from it
u win some u lose some..u cant get everything,,but comparatively, its still safer, supportive ,compassionate, pleasant and happy country to live in.
wonder why I cant relate to this racism thing..as opposed to others..(touche..)
never heard any racist comments/never been discriminated or even disregared/never felt unsafe/always treated like an equal human being
have worked many late hours..alone..
maybe I live in the wrong..err..I mean right area of the town

I only know one place where there is no racism at all :

Mahare Gaam main arr marre alle Panne main..

Outside that, I found racism everywhere.. We all have to come out of cocoon to make living

Agree with members, Hint of racism is everywhere we just need to learn to negate those vibes.

If somebody doesn't like racism in Australia/UK?US.. They can go back to their countries..

Punjab main kama kama ke Bihariyon nee Bihar sudhar diya(Thank God, they never thought about racism)

But why not also talk about racism in India also?

What is the caste system if not a system dividing people on basis of skin color?
India was the first country to systematically discriminate and divide people into separate classes based on skin color.

To me Indians are amongst one of the worse people one can meet in foreign countries:
Arrogant, backstabbing, opportunistic, displaying fake morals, leading double lives (even the older 60 year olds who have been here for more then 40 years, 60 year old married men lusting after young white women, a few of them members here on jatland), north Indian vs south Indian, haryana jat vs up jat etc. A few on this board who took offense at me cussing the rajput child molester IG of haryana but downplaying his abhominable acts towards a young teenager who committed suicide due to him.

Of course there are good decent Indians too.

We can see the racism, nationalism by aussies but would not the Indians do something similar if whites were taking lots of jobs in India? May be not violence but discrimination nonetheless.

Totally agree with you. Perception is 9/10 of reality. Couldn't have said it better.
When you walk with pride and biceps big enough to hold your pride nobody comes and messes with you. But again there is a law of jungle in this world, some are hunter others are prey and thats how the cookie crumbles. As far as Aussie being criminal is concerned their behaviour is boorish and it shows everywhere. Only time they don't show their churlish behaviour is when they are in company of other whites like Brits, Canadians, Americans. Heck Aussie as a nation was founded on the premise of what we would call 'Kala Paani ki saza' for all the British Criminals. Their sledging in sports is legendary only time they started complaining about other sledging was when they were paid back with interest take the example of Indian team in Aussie. It was fine when White Aussie and Brits were sledging others but it seems like the greatest crime in history of mankind if some brown, black or yellow man stands up against white man. Every white man feels he is entitled to a high paying job anywhere and everywhere in this world by the time he is 35 not because he is qualified but because he is entitled to it by virtue of his race and candor.

I didn't want to write too much about your post, but time has come to reply to you..........If you are suffering from inferiority complex then its your fault boy, not fault of your lineage.
But why not also talk about racism in India also?

What is the caste system if not a system dividing people on basis of skin color?India was the first country to systematically discriminate and divide people into separate classes based on skin color.
As far the caste system is concerned it was not suppose to be that way, during vedic times people were given the choice to do whatever work they wanted to do hence the metaphor of Varna was introduced but later on as our old values and system went in free fall decline the metaphor became the nomenclature of caste system. Before you start dissin this society and nation, read up on the history. Not the history taught by some Idiot who read Maculay, Max Muller, etc but the history that is passed down through legends and knowledge.

Little man first learn to walk and then you should learn to run, your theatrics sound shallow and hollow, seems like you are blaming India and Indians for your own problems, did you get smack from your white and black friends, you couldn't stand up to them if so its not India's problem its your own flailty that is at fault. As far as arrogance, backstabbing, opportunistic, fake morals, leading double lives are concerned if someone doesn't conform to others beliefs he is called arrogant---I am arrogant and proud of it. Now lets talk about backstabbing, if someone is preserving his own self interest ahead of someone else then by all means call me a back stabber because nobody's survival comes ahead of me. Its you and you only who is responsible for your own success if you want to sit around wail by arguing the semantics nobody else is at fault but the person who is sitting around.
Now lets talk about older men lusting after younger women, what's wrong with that, if you got the means and the women is willing as long as she is an ADULT and Willing to put out who cares (NOT TALKING ABOUT RAPE, COERCION like Haryana DGP). Once you get to the age where you can flaunt your success in Porsche Carrerra and going to Nite Clubs where the door man has your name on the list, it doesn't matter if you are 50 there will be plenty of these young hotties who are more than willing to do Eagle for their career. It is called the world of Haves and Have Nots. Those who have it they will always rule over have nots and thats the reality.

Of course there are good decent Indians too.
Really!!!! You think......

We can see the racism, nationalism by aussies but would not the Indians do something similar if whites were taking lots of jobs in India? May be not violence but discrimination nonetheless.
White have been taking everything from India it seems like yesterday, did you forget we were enslaved by whites for 200 years. Now its time to payback--we will endure every humiliation, every abuse but in the end we will prevail over the decadent and depraved societies and then we will exact revenge on them--it may not be me but our collective future generations that will collectively take back what was stolen from their ancestors.
