The stage is being set for reservation for the Jat community by including it in the OBC category. The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has already asked the Indian Council for Social Science and Research (ICSSR) to conduct a comprehensive survey on the educational and social status of Jats across six states.Against a backdrop of frequent protests by the community across these states demanding reservation in government jobs, educational institutes and politics beginning to play out on the issue, the NCBC last month approached ICSSR to conduct a quick survey on the socio-economic condition of Jats. The ‘Jat Baseline Survey’ will be conducted by ICSSR across Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh as these are said to have a high Jat population. A preliminary meeting of the NCBC was held with experts at the ICSSR on May 30, 2012 on holding the survey. It was decided that five ICSSR-associated offices will conduct the survey for Jats on the lines of the one conducted for minorities in 90 minority-dominated districts.Even as this exercise takes off, the right noises are already being made on the issue. Earlier this week, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh pitched for Jat reservation under the OBC quota. UPA ally RLD has high stakes in the Jat-dominated Manth Assembly which will see byelections on June 12.Singh also told reporters that the Congress was working on the inclusion of Jats in the central list of OBCs and the Home Ministry was awaiting a report from the NCBC on the same. Incidentally, RLD chief Ajit Singh had also called on Home Minister Chidambaram on the issue earlier this week.
The educational and social status of Jats apart, the ICSSR experts have opined that other communities in these states must also be covered under similar parameters so that a comparative understanding of the social fabric wherein Jats reside is understood as well as their needs.“The politics apart, it is important to know the community fabric in these areas. While it will be Jat-dominated districts where the baseline survey will be conducted, significant inferences can be made by studying the constitution of society in these areas. ICSSR will soon start work on the survey,” said an official familiar with the nature of the survey.
I totally agree with Mr.Swaich views regarding Jat reservation. Instead of wasting time and energy in asking something which will spoil our youths( who will work hard if they get the jobs for FREE ,anyways existing OBC reservation should suffice for the needy ones if the creamy layer Jats vouluntarily opt out of reservation quota) we should better concentrate in developing more infrastructure (education/medical facilities) for the community people and eradicating certain social mal-practices
Respected Sirs ,
May I m wrong still as we live in democratic country everyone has right to express their views-

The demand for reservation of seats in OBC quota is for lesser privileged brothers and sisters belonging to the Jat community as a whole; and not exclusively for one 'I' or another 'you.' Some people who do not meet the set criterion will automatically weed out of the reservation benefit such as those falling in creamy layer. But this does not mean that we start opposing the genuine demand of our community.
Then again, talented persons, if any, can opt for competing for only 'open category' ignoring the provision of OBC category.
Thanks
PS:Your enthusiasm for expressing your frank opinion is welcome but it is puzzling that Ms. Rekha Tomar tags her post 'Anonymous.'
