With the grandest event of em all -- the FIFA world cup -- just days away I have a curiosity that Jatlanders are supporting which team(s). An ardent supporter of Brazil for long (there is nothing new in it. Most of us are), I am switching sides this time and the hosts Germany are my pick. I feel Brazil have won trifle too many.

So I would like to see Michael Ballack's man lift the trophy.

I've even changed the spelling of my name from Daksh to Daksch to show my support to Deutsch land.

Narender Bhai! Pichle saal Brazil ki depleted team ne 4-0 ya 4-1 se thoontdi ragad di thi Argentina ki Confed Cup final mein.

I am a self confessed fan of Lionel Messi but wont put my money on them.

Nedved pe depend karega bahut had tak Czech Republic ka chalna. Pur wo us form mein nahi hai jisme do saal pehle tha jab Juve ko Champ league ke final mein phahunchaya.

What abt Oz? Guus Hiddink his coaching 'em.

how good are ya......

Oz ....not good will not go beyond 1st round....Rugby is a big thing here...
well I must tell you that, i am a hell of a guesser........
I watched that game too ...even the argentine side was depleted...
The cup is due for argentina .... The Czeck is dangerous...
Italians are good too .......

Well the Italians are masters when it comes to performing at a big stage. They are always a side to watch at. Halanki Totti ki dahi tooti padi thi abhi tak, par lagta hai woh theek ho gaya. Afsos Vieri (or shud I say weary) bechara bahar ho gaya. Although considering his indifferent form with Inter this season, I doubt whether he would have made any difference.

What abt England? They are masters chokers. To add insult to their Rooney bechara almost out hai.

Hopefully it will be a England v Brazil Final.

English Team has really matured from the last Cup in addition European Conditions will suit them, so really this is their best chance and who cannot be charmed by the Brazalian Salsa...they are always my fav's.

European winner

It would definitely be an European team.I am a big fan of French soccer team, they didnt perform well last time but this time we should expect a lot from them. They will definitely make it to the Final.Other possible winner could be Spain

Well, Im waitin despreatly for the Fifa world cup!
my all time fav team is AREGENTINA!
I wish this time they will get the triumph!

Rock on
Jit

EEEEnnnnnnnggggggggllllllaaaaaaaannnnnddddddddddd is my pick as always, watch out for Rooney.

Pal Vivek! Don't expect too much from 'em. They are a pride which has past its prime. Bhudey Shers. It is not just in the last WC, they have been underperforming for quite sometime now. They, if I can recall properly, could not even make into the Euro Cup last four in 2004. Even I would luv to see Zizou get a grand farewell but the chances are bleak.

Now Spain, a highly talented team, but they have to fight a two pronged battle. One against their competitors and the second and the tougher one against themselves.

Yep, they are THE underachievers of the game. A country with so many political divisions that you can see a clear shadow of this when they play as a national side. ''I am from Catalunia, You are from Basque'' is the kind of sentiment that prevails among the players.

Nevertheless I love watching Raul and goalie Cassilas -- I must mention that I am fan of Real Madrid. Jose Antonio Reyes and Fabregas are pegged to be the stars of the World Cup.

Meanwhile on 17th May, Barca are taking on Arsenal in the Champions league final. And even though I hate Barca (you can't support Real and Barca at the same time), I would luv to see them win 'coz I luv spanish football. Free flowing and attacking. Smooth as silk.

Trivia: Do you know one of the biggest and illustrious clubs in Europe AC Milan was, at the time of inception, known as Milan Cricket and Football Club.

Here comes a die hard British fan. Yes they have a chance but Amit Ji Rooney ki wajah se nahi, but because of Tery, Cole, Owen, Gerrard and ummm... may be David Beckham. Rooney bechara to haad tudwaye pada. Even he admitted that his WC dream is over. Although he's in side and recovering but whether he will recover in time. God Knows.

In the meanwhile, let's guzzle beer and sing ''God save the queen''.

No no he will be there for sure, his right foot is almost fine now but doubts regrding his performance are still there. I am on a lookout for him anyways as we have seen others in the last ones. Offcourse, I an Owen fan (he was the guy in 2002) and Beckham ki dhoop-batti baale karoon but this time Rooney is the main thing. Another thing to look out for is Rooney's hooliganish attitude on the field, lets see kis kis ne peetegaa:)

It's gonna b either england or germany. Germany always manages to find thier way to the finals, last time thy had a pretty safe ride to final.

Vikash Dhorasoo of Indian origin set to make World Cup debut

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) Rubbing shoulder with the likes of
Zinedine Zidane may be an absurd dream for the likes of Baichung
Bhutia, but 32-year-old versatile midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo is
very much part of France coach Raymond Domenech's scheme of things
for World Cup when ''The Greatest Show on Earth'' kicks-off in
Germany on June 9.
Born on October 10, 1973 in Mauritius to Indian parents, Vikash
has been in the reckoning for the last six years and the Paris
Saint-Germain player is liked by his coach as well -- capped 13
times in Domenech's 18 games in charge.
Vikas has won 28 caps for French under-21 and Under-23 Olympic
team and played the 1996 Olympic finals in Atlanta.
He played for Le Havre AC until 1998 before joining Olympique
Lyon for a three-year stint there before switching over to Girondins
de Bordeaux in and return to Olympique Lyon again.
In the 2003-04 season, Vikash was named The Best Player of Ligue
1 and the following year, he joined AC Milan.
With Domenech parading a star-studded mid-field, comprising
Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Patrick Vieira (Juventus), Alou
Diarra (Racing Lens), Claude Makelele (Chelsea) and Florent Malouda
(Olympique Lyon), it's going to be a tough job to make it to the
final squad but Vikash's creative spark is likely to clinch the
issue in his favour.

By the way Vivek Bhai, your last name Pannu rhymes with Zizou.

Scandulous Old Lady from Turin cud be stripped off in public

Always among Scudettos -- as the coveted Italian Serie A trophy is known -- the Old Lady from Turin, better known as Juventus, even better known as Man Utd's nemesis, finds herself in the middle of match fixing scandal.

Juve have recently won the scudetto for the second year in a row and 29th time in their illustrous history. But the latest allegations, if proven right may leave them stripped off their title and relegated to Serie B.

Until now I was keeping mum on Trezeguet (leading Juve scorer) as Vivek Pannu pointed out but now I doubt that his scoring prowess had more to do with bookies rather than predatory skills.

Gerrard's Encore

Elsewhere, Liverpool skipper Stephen Gerrard again did the unthinkable when he rallied his side from behind to pip West Ham Utd in 125th FA cup final. Last year he singlehandedly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Liverpool overcame 0-3 first half deficit to beat mighty Milan on penalties in Champ league final.

Amit Bhai, this proves my point that more than Rooney it would be the inspirational Liv playmaker, the competitors would be wary off.

I wonder why on earth isn't he captaining the English team.

France

I totally agree with you about Trezguet. He is not a big gun as Thierry Henry.Rooney is an agressive player no doubt about it.But i reckon that he is quite young to grab such a coveted place.
I do believe that there would be some miracles this time like the last time, when senegal beat France, but this time it would definitely not be France :).Thuram,Petit,Djorkaeff,Sagnol and Vieira are some other unforgettable names in the French soccer team.So my shout is FRANCE......

Lose Frenchies!

Relax. You need not grab ur underpants fearing you might lose them.

With all due respect to Mr Pannu's inclination towards France, I would Luv to see Les Blues lose in the WC to see something more -- a 2002 encore.

During the last World Cup, a section of French female fans, in order to inspire their star-studded team which was trailing to Senegal, took off their tees in full public view. However, they charged up every single man in stadium save 'Les Blues' who eventually lost.

Sorry Zizou! I want an encore, but not if your memorable performance in the 1998 final against Brazil, but of those fans who gave me one of the most enduring sight of the last WC;) .

Trivia: The owner of which club has grabbed most airtime/coloumn centimeters in the media recently?

Roman Abrahamovich (Chelsea).

Nope,it is A C Milan's Silvio Berlusconi -- the outgoing premier of Italy. Lathough for political reasons rather than the footballing ones.

Cheers Vivek:)

Football

I am a huge fan of the way the dutch play their football. The way the construct moves is a treat to watch although I don't see them winning the WC. :( .

As for some of the other nations:

Brazil : the defending champions deserve to be favourites and will be hard to beat.

England: Only the Queen knowns how they will perform. A good team but known to underperform when it matters most.

Italy : too boring and defensive. Will not win.

France: History still living in 1998 glory.

Germany: Should challenge and will get huge home support.

Argentina: Another unpredictable country.

and lastly:

Australia: Ha Ha. My heart goes out to my fellow sports crazy aussie fans.
