Hear it from the horse's mouth

We people can keep talking and discussing. But it is always better to know what the other side feels. Given below is the account by a Pakistani muslim lady. And its self explanatory.

Pakistani viewpoint

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,
I was saddened to read the letter of Javed Altaf in the Milpitas Post dated Feb 2, "Text clashes extremist, moderate Hindus." As a woman from Pakistan who immigrated to the United States, I would like to tell everyone that there are people in Pakistan who do not show such hatred toward others.
I grew up in Pakistan and we were always taught to hate India, Israel and America. Our school books described Christians, Jews and Hindus as evil people, and unfortunately most Pakistanis exhibit a lot of hatred because of this. I was ashamed when Pakistanis celebrated on the streets after innocent people were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks. Even when I got my passport, I had to sign a statement on the application form that I consider the leader of Qadiani group of Muslims to be an imposter and his followers to be non-Muslim. I felt uncomfortable signing it as I somehow thought it is a hateful thing to do. To all Qadiani brothers and sisters, I wish to apologize on behalf of Pakistanis and say I am truly sorry I signed the statement.
Fortunately, I had the chance to leave Pakistan and find freedom in America. Now, I do not have to cover myself with a burqa.
I learned that one can be a good person even without being a Muslim and I got the confidence to question Islam. Islam is an artificial religion of medieval Arabs. Why should I accept any religion that forces me to wear a burqa and prevents my education?
Mr. Altaf's letter talks about caste system in India. I want to point out that the caste system is alive and well in Pakistan as well. It is hypocritical of Pakistanis to talk of a caste system.
The people of Pakistan are no different from the people of India except that we are born into Islam. This unfortunate difference gave birth to Pakistan, which has the dishonor of being created as the world's first religion-based country. We should never have left India because forming a country based on religion tells the world that we are hateful people. Please tell your readers that not all Pakistanis are hateful people.
Ironically, my own life has been one where the differences between Indians and Pakistanis have been buried. After leaving Islam, I searched for spiritual peace and met a wonderful man who is a Hindu from India. Today, he is my husband and I find that I have a lot of freedom. Women in Islam do not have any freedom and four women are considered to be equal to one man. I realize that I would not have had the opportunity to meet my husband had I not come to America and got my freedom. There are many women like me who long for freedom. I sincerely wish I could do something for my sisters or that America would liberate my sisters but without hurting the people.

Singh Sahab and Rathee Sahab,

You are harping on the same tune that they are bad, they hate us, they spread contempt against us, they are terrorists so on and so forth…..

Singh Sahab, you are stressing on your perception about them. You are directing us to the kind of stuff we are not interested in. Why should some one be interested in knowing negative things about others. Our concern should be how to be better and better day by day and not to do anything that may lead us to the plight they are ditched in. Second of our concern should be how to respond to their propaganda of ill will against us. I am very sorry to state that this issue fails to be redressed in any of your posts. Kindly help us in this regard, if you can. If you hold that we should hate them, please give reasons to substantiate your views as to how hate for hate is going to help us. If possible, please also make us wiser by telling about our religious, social or political leaders—past or present, who guided us ever to meet with such treatment towards them.

Rathee Sahab, I am happy that you are not ambiguous at least in your views. But tell us how hatred and contempt towards them are going to help us in our advancement. You talked of Thakre Sahab and Shiv Sena in one of your posts. I would request you to go through the Sena literature and Thakre Sahab’s views, if have political inclination towards them. Not more than a month back I remember having heard Raj Thakre advocating for good relations with the Muslims. He specifically mentioned a few Muslim personalities including that of Irfan Patel as many of our members have also mentioned in their posts. So please give your well considered plausible reasons in support of the stand taken., notwithstanding what stand do you take. About your query as to how Osama and some others of his kind are as they are despite the high level of their education I promise to give a reply in due course which , I hope, will satisfy this query.

So dear friends, kindly refrain from repeating the same or new things to substantiate what they are. The whole world agrees they lag far behind rest of the world in all positive respects.

Thanks and best of regards. Nothing personal and no offence is intended.

This is not only India's prob.. every secular n democratic country is facing it. Muslims r pushing their luck real hard ... the sooner thy stop this jihadi crap ... more better it wuld b for their whole community .. not jus in india but thru out the world. US is tolerating middle eastern bull$h!t coz of oil only.. n once thy run out of oil.... we all gonna witness some reall muzzie @$$ whopping.

In the meantime let me also request you to

i) recollect that a)religious fundamentalism,b)extremism and c) terrorism are distinct words often used interchangably because the interests they serve overlap to a considerable extent and;

In Islam Religious fundamentalism==Extremism==Terroism!

deswal said:
ii) go down the memory lane to brush up your memory with reference to the following:

@ Oklahoma City Bombing of April 19, 1995 – Timothy James Mc Veigh
@ IRA, LTTE , Greek Cyprus, Kosovo, Nepal and Sudan
@ Separatist movements in Punjab and North East of India
@ Political unrest in Bulochistan and Sind of Pakistan
@ The Order, Ka Klux Klan and Christian Identity

We would defintely like to know more about it! :D

deswal said:
Perhaps you will realise that terrorist activities that many of our friends have referred to in their posts are not solely because of Islam. Others have their share in these kind of activities.

Yah, i think its more due to Hinduism, Budhism and Christianity!

Islam is more or less innocent! :D

I would also like to remind that the issue is not what and how they are. Issue is for whatever they are should we hate them? Is hatred for hatred is going to help us? Is it in our interest to hate them for what they are? I again say that for reasons of prudence we should not hate anyone. Not hating is not an act of charity but of pragmatism

I again agree!

I dont see any reason to hate them!

what if they kill few Hindues!

we can always turn blind eye or look other way! And since we have so much population what if few people dies!

We should love Islam. :D

Reasons for what they are appear to be more of geographical in nature than religious.

As we know Islam originated in the Arab heartland and spread to other countries of Asia and Africa in the 7th century. In most of the areas that came under its influence from 7th century onwards did not have access to any kind of modern education. Many countries, except India and a few other countries, were very poor in natural resources until discovery of oil in the 20th century and thus did not attract the European colonisers. Most of the Muslim population, therefore, does not have exposure to the modern education which could have kindled the process of free thinking among its members. Many of us may be knowing that notwithstanding his stand on creation of Pakistan Mohamad Ali Jinnah was a free thinker because of the influence of modern education and was alleged (by his critics in the Muslim community—Rafiq Jakaria’s book may be read for further details) to have slighted Islamic tenets on more than one occasions. Fate of some uneducated muslim daring so to do can only be imagined even after half a century Jinnah did so . Stories about such instances from Afghanistan are available on this site. So I have no hesitation to say that lack of modern education is the first and foremost reason for their present position.
Why put blames on European colonisers for muslim's underdevelopment n illetracy, no one restricted thm to have access to modern knowledge except their RELIGION .. which clrealy says Quran is the main source of their knowledge. Its not lack of modern/advance education nor its the geographic location its their religion which doesnot accept anything modern thy still wanna live in 7th century.

2. Secodly with the discovery of oil in the Arab/gulf region in the 20th century when easy money became available any motivation for getting modern education got buried deep in the desert. A new class of economically rich but socially poor emerged. Unfortunately, a part of the newly found easy money found its way among the Muslims outside the oil rich region in the form of charities. More unfortunately, most of this money is being used to fuel the flames of hatred against the non Muslims either by the secessionists or by the mullahs to serve their selfish ends.
There was no watsoever motivation for modern education or anything ... their only motive is to bring whole wrld under the rule of islam .. n thts whr the big bucks r going.
Pertinently the Quran Shareef, and I am delighted to say, has atleast one chapter (Ayat No 109) that speaks in conciliatory terms about followers of the other faiths.
Quote

The Disbelievers

109.1 O unbelievers!
109.2 I do not serve which you serve,
109.3 Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve:
109.4 Nor am I going to serve that which you serve,
109.5 Nor are you going to serve Him Whom I serve;
109.6 You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion.

Unquote

So I firmly believe that their scripture commands them to adopt the principle of ‘live and let live’. These are the mullahs and secessionists that are misguiding them to the world of hatred , contempt and so called jehad in order to serve their selfish ends. Frankly speaking every religion has such kind of elements. Difference lies in the percentage. Among the Muslims this percentage is on very high side because of their educational backwardness and availability of easy money which make them relatively more vulnerable to negative propaganda.
So silly of me... last week i was watchin a prog bout hamas on tv.. n thr were guys carrying AK47 in one hand n in other they were pointing few versus out of Quran.. i culdnt understand a thing wat thy said but ... after reading these verses m sure thy mean no harm to anyone.

4. In view of above I personally feel that so long as they do not develop a taste for the modern scietific education and have access to easy money they are going to remain as they are. No body except they themselves can help them out of this.
And i say.. as long as thy follow Islam so blindly thr wont b any hope for peace in this world. thy betta stop acting like bunch of thugs or thy r jus askin for more serious @$$ whopping because slowly but surely muslims r pissing off every nation in the wrld.. n it wuldnt b long enuff to see some serious action taken against thm in disguise if not openly.
5. Lastly about our reaction and attitude towards them. I personnaly feel we must refrain from falling into the tempetation of ‘hate for hate’. If we hate we are going to lose some how or the other and in some form or the other. I am not advocating that we should love them when they hate us. But there is something in between. They desreve pitty and not hate or contempt. Formidable is the word that should beat describe us to them.
In muslims majority countries non muslims r being oppressed ...thy cant pray or worship... thy dun enjoy equal rights but in west muslims want equal treatment.... recently in afganistan a man almost got killed for reverting frm islam non of saudi country said anything bout this trial.. y ..because thts wat their religion teaches thm... u can only convert to islam but u cant revert n if u do.. thn u have to die. As long as these mullahs gonna behave like this thr wont b any change in ppl's attitude 2wards islam.

Islam is too rigid n strict to survive for long..... it shld b more flexible or else it will b break dwn into diff sects. these nxt 2-3 years r real imp for muslims.... if this shia-sunni war stops in iraq thn islam wuld survive for long .. but if it gets out of hand thn it will spread to all of the islamic wrld tht wuld b the dwnfall for Islam.

Hey...... I feel strongly for Indian army. But u cant be so stone hearted dat u start hatin all muslims. Wat ABT MUSLIM SOLDIERS SERVING IN OUR ARMY. I kno two officers in army who are muslim and they are doin a lot good then us who consider ourselves so called REAL INDIANS.If u wanna teach lesson then lets start frm home...wat about our politicians, its all done on thier orders. Wat all this bl****y defense minister kno how it feels to be in fields widout any facilities n worthless armaments. Our soldiers on fields keep on waitin for orders sittin dere in death lap. dey are actin like puppetts..... N wat good u r doin if pakistani's are taught to hate indians. Don u hate pakistani precisely muslims widout knowi if he is to be blamed or not.. Kare koi aur bhare koi.?Sorry if i said smthin wrong but Human life must be valued whether its indian or pakistani.

very true, i think the ministers who did dhaandli in the coffins of our slain soldiers should be hated more than the foreign fighters.
Its not fair to spread hatred towards Indian muslims for what muslims in other parts of the world are doing. On te same lines, y do so many dreaded criminals make it to the parliament, the heart of democracy in our country? Y dnt other criminals inside the country get that hatred. In my opinion they're dng more damage to the country than the terrorists. I'm not favoring terrorism or wot's gng on in Kashmir but simply defending the muslims in our own country. Always remember we're INDIANS first and then Hindu or Muslims. This fact has been the essence of our country for centuries and this is what makes us what we are, INDIANS.

Please Spare the Army...

Dear All,

Please avaoid making any off hand comments about the Indian Army while commenting on Muslims.

Just to set the record straight. Please use the provisions of 'Right to Information Act' and seek records that show the total number of Soldiers court martialled for 'Spying' & 'Treachery'. You would find that Muslim Soldiers are much better than others. Let's have no argument on this issue without going through the facts.

I have served in Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment that consists 50% Muslim Soldiers from the state of J&K. The JAK LI Regiment is one of the most decorated Infantry Regiments of the Indian Army and we were raised only in 1948. The Rashtriya Rifles Regiments owe their initial successes to the JAK LI soldiers who were spirinkled across to help them in counter insurgency operations. The Muslim soldier of JAK LI is the most persevering individual at the present moment. Suspected by all & sundry because of his religion and denounced by his kith & kin because he continues to serve in the Indian Army with honour. Imagine how will the JAT Regiment react if there were J&K like conditions prevailing in Haryana or any other part of JATLAND? Do you remember Operation Blue Star. It is very easy to criticise and write just for the heck of it.

Everything is good or bad, depends on how you want to see it. I am proud to say that I have spent the most wonderful years of my life serving in my regiment with Muslim soldiers. I never doubted their loyalty towards his commanders or to the National Flag. I slept rather well, even while being a few hundred yards from enemy bunkers because the sentry was on duty. It didn't matter whether he was a Hindu or Muslim, JAT or Madrasi.

JS Malik

I read that there is rather small % of muslims in our army! Can you tell us how much it is approximately. There was huge uproar over this and Imam bukhari said why Armed forces does not recruit muslims and instead focus on Jats/Sikhs/Rajputs etc.

I just wanted to know approximate percentage!

Also i want to know how come a general muslim is disloyal to India and loyal to army! Is there any specific reason for this!

I will provide you one more incident in my life: When i was in IIT KGP,, our Dean of Student affairs had to interfere with muslim students to stop them making SIMI like community .

Can you think of any reason for that, i mean they were selected into IIT and still they formed their secluded group and it become so dangerous that Dean has to interfere with them.

There % was 70% of total muslim people.

Even those who were away from that group had not so good mindset!

You are advocating about muslim honesty, let me ask you few more questions. There was desi liquor shop in Bombay and the owner of that shop was muslim. He poisoned the liquour and sold it to Hindues, i remember exactly to this date, more than 60 people died.

I also want to ask you about Bhagalpur incident when few muslims tried to poison the whole water tank!

Are all these are rumours and muslims are Holy cow!!

Well Friends,

I have some more reasons for 'not to hate' the Muslims and that are:

i) All of our own social/political leaders did not do so and I elaborate

a) Chaudhary Chhotu Ram and Sardar Sikandar Hayat were the co- founders of the Unionist Party and I have no hesitation to say had Chaudhary Sahab chosen to act the other way, as some of our worthy members suggest, we would not have been discussing this issue over the net today. We would have been riding in more or less in the same kind of boat as most of the Muslims are. Can any one question Chaudhary Sahab's farsightedness or his role in bringing us to this level? Let me remind you Hindu Muslim riots date back to the period of formation of the Unionist Party.

b) Chaudhary Charan Singh actively associated himself with the Muslims. It was not long back. We just need to brush up our memory as I suggested in my post yesterday,

c) Chaudhary Devi Lal's association with the Muslims is not conspicuously known because of small size of Muslim population in Haryana. But he was closely associated with them.

d) Name any other jat social/political leader who ever advocated attitude of hate toeards them. I will withdraw myself from the whole discussion.

ii) As a good citizen of my country I am duty bound to honour its Constitution. If I want to enjoy my freedom and fundamental rights I have to fulfill my fundamental duties as enshrined in the Constitution (Article 51A) and I wish to quote the relevant part for ready reference:

"Article 51 A:

It shall be the duty of every citizen of India

a)......
b)....
c)....
d)....
e) to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhoodamongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguastic, and regional or sectional diversities.........."

iii) I do not wish my freedom of speech and expression (as guaranteed under Article 19) is curtailed. I know the right to freedom of speech and expression is not an absolute right. It can be curtailed by law, inter alia, if I do something having the potential to disturb the public order or incitement to an offence .

iv) I do not want to be prosecuted on the grounds of disturbing the communal harmony of my country.

v) I do not want to lose my moral and legal right to advocate for prosecution of those religious fundamentalists who inflame the spirit of hatred amongst the Muslims.

I would reuest the members who want to know more about the stuff I suggested in my post yesterday to kindly devote some more time in web surfing to find that.

Thanks ;and again please give reasoned arguments.
