Movie's Reviews

Dedh Ishaq Kiya

2 on 5 ( 1.5 bhi chalega )

Bad story naration , loose screenplay . There are some scenes of flash back but no story ( i was wondering then whats the point of flash back ) . Movie is hilarious in every scene where Naseeruddin n Arshad is there ( every Scene to be very precise ). Much of NV stuff in dialogues but sounded very casual ( may be coz of actors ) . Dialogues are catchy .....DNA ...Itlavi ....Sonia n Italy joke .....7 stages of love .....Batman Joker Superb from Mushtaq ...there is one more famous from Huma ....good . Actor playing Jaan - Vijay Raaz( famous for kauva biryani scene from Run ) quite good . Madhuri .......disastour ....( why they wasted money on her anyone could have played that role ....there was nothing )

Lots of sher-o-shayri ( though I could not understand any sorry illiterate when it comes to poem / sher etc ) . There was a story .......but like puzzle pieces all went haywire . Director might be thinking audience would figure it out ( agar dimag hi lagana hota , toh movie banate dekhte nahi ) .During Whole movie all u want Naseer & Arshad to come together n make u laugh

Naseeruddin & Arshad : Superb
Madhuri - No offence bas nachwa lo
Huma : Her Talent wasted specially after watching GOW - Short films
Vijay Raaz : After a while Good

American Hustle 3.5 on 5

Must Watch

watched it yesterday..

I upgrade overall final rating to 3.8/5
Actor Rating: Bradley Cooper 4.5/5. Christian Bale: IMO hes more best at his role in "The Prestige"

Movie is slow, storyline keeps moving up and down (like a volatile stock market day)... at one point you feel it boring and wish to quit (Rating it not more than 3)...but after observing a little patience it picks up really good lately....and ends very well..

Gran Torino

This one i recommend highly for you Jit (If not seen already), and all die hard fans of Clint Eastwood.

Movie: Gran Torino 4/5
Actor: Clint Eastwood 4.75/5

Disgaree. A definite 3.5 for me. Could have been 4 if the story wouldn't have lacked pace in the second half.

The movie is for those who enjoy mystery cooked with old world romance and sprinkled with poetic elegance and subtle humour. One can watch Akshay or Salman movies for cheap dialogues and petty slapstick laughs that insult human intelligence. The Bhardwaj and Kashyap schools of film-making are about intriguing the audience with twists and wonderful acting.

On performances, I agree Madhuri was a downer. Women actresses in general age less gracefully than men and actresses that were pretty once find it hard to relive the same glory again. Very few Indian actresses are able to convey that timeless beauty attribute on screen. Madhuri unfortunately isn't one of them. In fact, Huma outshines her completely. Again, working with filmmakers like Kashyap has clearly helped. But the chemistry between Madhuri and Huma was surprisingly good. Vijay Raaz and Manoj Pahwa in a cameo were immense.

Naseer and Arshad were great. In fact, Arshad carried the Bhopali accent better than Naseer who is better versed in Urdu but remains loyal to the Awadhi accent which is his mother tongue. Considering that both characters are from Bhopal, and at least one of them stays true to the accent, conveys the attention to detail of the filmmakers. Again, this is a sign of good filmmakers. Bhardwaj's Omkara, although shot in Satara, Maharashtra was set in western UP and hence remained loyal to Khari boli dialect of Hindi. Kashyap, on the other hand pays lesser attention to accents and other minor details as witnessed by Bajpayi speaking North Bihari Bhojpuri in GoW, although the story was set near Dhanbad in South Bihar, now Jharkhand.

The best scene for me was the climax action scene. Flying bullets against the background score of a Thumri. Fantastic!

Lone Survivor - Brutal and Touching piece

Based on a true story - that is the most haunting part of this film. From the title and story itself, audiences already know what the inevitable ending will be, but through the determination of the four brothers, you can't help but hope for a change in their fates.

At its core, Lone Survivor is an American war film. The team members are heroes, the Taliban are enemies, and the heroes are able to fight on like in video games or movies. For the opening 40 minutes, it is a somewhat cheesy show of soldiers bravado and training, but it works. Incorporating real footage of the Navy Seals mixed with the actors lets viewers feel for the real life persons and their portrayed characters in the film. Soon after though, they are dropped into enemy territory on an operation to take out a Taliban leader. The mission goes awry when they encounter a small group of locals there, and they are faced with the decision of killing them and letting go. From here, the intensity begins to climb. What is the right thing to do? What would you do? Faced with that moral situation, they decide to cut them loose - soon after, Taliban forces are hot on their tail.

The next 40 minutes or so are an action-packed, non-stop brutal war scene. Tension builds as a scope lines up with an enemy head. The shot is fired, blood flies, and the chase begins. With an abundance of slow- mo shots, clear close-ups of kills and wounds, the excellent direction and cinematography provide a painful journey that makes you cringe or tear up the same as the four soldiers. And all of these men in the film play their roles greatly. Just listing them off - Walhberg tough as usual, Hirsch strong and vulnerable, Kitsch pulling off the difficult decisions as leader, and Foster frighteningly embodying cold but caring.

These forty minutes of intensity must be attributed to the whole team and crew though. Beyond the camera work and editing, much of the scenes work well because of the locations, the costuming, the painful makeup and design for all the wounds, the typical and tacky war-epic music. The writing and delivery of lines keep the pacing quick and engaging.

Regardless of the how the majority of the movie is taken, the conclusion of the film is a nice touch and shows - even with the bloody action and cheesiness - what the film's really about: giving the story of these men who served the country. Lone Survivor, while it can be perceived as more American propaganda, still gives a brutal yet touching look at this journey of four brothers through war.

Can say all are good movies except the last two, which I haven't watched. Agree about TKMB. The movie doesn't do justice to the book.

For those who're bored of regular flicks moving around romance, action, dramma, animation.

To kill a mocking bird is widely considered best film for "court-room drama", but i also did not like it very much. If not seen , try "Witness for the prosecution (1957) " for court-room drama, really engaging

Seen both. :) In my bachelor days I would get into these phases when I would watch as many movies as possible of a particular theme. I saw The Thin Red Line when the theme in my head was WWII. Also saw Bridge on the river Kwai and Patton in the same phase. FMJ I saw when my theme was Vietnam wars. Also saw Apocalypse now and Platoon during that phase.

To be honest - Thin Red Line is one of my favourite war movies. It has breath-taking cinematography which is actually a hallmark of Malick's movies. The tranquil scenes of the natives and natural flora of the islands is almost like an anti-thesis to the violence of the 'developed' westerners. Loved the way the director explores existential questions via the protagonist Jim Caviezel. makes you realize the futility of war.

I haven't seen Witness for Prosecution. Must go on my list as I like courtroom dramas. I think the Exorcism of Emily Rose also has good courtroom drama. Another similar one, although it can be more classified as a 'jury room drama' is 12 Angry men which re-made in Hindi as 'Ek ruka hua faisla'. Its an excellent portrayal of how everyone can be biased by their own convictions and can view the same truth differently.

Hansee toh Fansee ( Waise 1 on 5 , however some songs are good so 2 on 5 )

1- Genious daughter
2- Loving Father
3- Would be sister-in-law flirting with would be brother-in-law.
4- Would be groom got confused after 7 years of relationship
So called wedding drama .......absolute failed one ......no theme . Very few more than average scenes . Movie title itself was not justified , very beginning of movie almost 5 min quite good .....but that is all .

Do not watch ( for songs You Tube hai na )

Has anyone seen " One by Two " ......read pathetic reviews .......Songs are good though .
